STREAM: Weatherbox – “Big News”

Sainthood Reps and Weatherbox announced recently that they would be releasing a two-song split 7″ together.

AbsolutePunk.net recently premiered Sainthood Reps’ portion, “Deadlines”, and Weatherbox’s portion is currently streaming on Alarm Magazine‘s website.

According to Alarm, Weatherbox vocalist Brian Warren says, “This song is about staying in your room for two months, thinking that everybody in the world hates you, and then coming out and realizing you were right.”

Stream “Big News” from Weatherbox here and pre-order their split with Sainthood Reps on Topshelf Records’ web store.

Finch Announce The Almost As Main Tour Support

Well, this is a nice crossing of paths. I’ve been anxious to see The Almost live since their killer new song streamed. Today, after hinting at it previously over the weekend, they have been announced as the main support for Finch on their American tour dates. While the bands aren’t exactly in the same style, this should be a pretty awesome tour to see. Finch’s full announcement said, “We are happy to announce that THE ALMOST will be the main support band for ALL midwest/east coast dates! Should make for a good night!” Thus, I suppose it …

Finch Announce Openers For California Dates

Last night, recently reunited post-hardcore band Finch announced the openers for the California leg of their tour. The openers for their full tour are still unknown at this point; nonetheless, some of these opening acts make a lot of sense, and I anxiously await to see them. They are as follows:

February 1: Late Night Revival, Weatherbox
February 2: Hancox, Particles Like Planets
February 8: Just Eleanor, XO
February 9: Reverend Crow, Fluf

It should be noted that at least three of these bands have a connection to Finch: Randy Strohmeyer, guitarist for Finch, at least used to be the

The Starting Line Announce Openers For Tour

The Starting Line are one of several bands to get back together for a ten year anniversary tour recently, as have other Drive Thru Records label mates Finch. This kicks off in December, and has several different supporting acts across the dates: The Wonder Years, Fake Problems, Vinnie Caruana, Weatherbox, Morning Parade, More Amor, The Almost, Such GoldRDGLDGRN, and more. I mean that quite literally: the band says more supporting acts will be announced.

Review: Person L/Weatherbox – Split EP

Artists: Person L and Weatherbox
Album: Split EP
Genre: Indie-rock/Experimental
Label: Youth Conspiracy Records

After four long years of patient waiting, Person L and Weatherbox have finally recorded that 7-inch they had promised. The Split EP consists of four all new tracks, two from each band, all of which are terribly enjoyable.  However, upon successive spins a more satisfying way to enjoy album has become apparent. Begin with either “OK” by Person L or “Kickflips For Weeks” by Weatherbox, and then alternate tracks between the two bands. A call and response, or a contest of sorts can be heard between …

REVIEW: Weatherbox – Follow The Rattle Of The Afghan Guitar

Artist: Weatherbox
Album: Follow the Rattle of the Afghan Guitar
Genre: Rock
Label: Youth Conspiracy Records

The intriguingly titled EP Follow the Rattle of the Afghan Guitar is a good, enjoyable release filled with soul-searching and furtive glimpses forward and back. The songs are slow-burning and jazzy, doing their utmost to get the listener bopping, but the EP is a little too ordinary and everyday in its execution to really appeal to me. I like the loose, cool sound and it does make for a relaxing listen, but it doesn’t seem to be saying or doing anything new or particularly …
