It has been confirmed that there will be a break in tonight’s celebrations to pay tribute to Amy Winehouse. The tribute will be led by Tony Bennett, who was with Winehouse during her last known recording. Rumor has it that Winehouse’s parents might be in attendance, but nothing is official yet.

Busta Rhymes speaks about closing Lil Wayne’s LP

Busta Rhymes considers it a “blessing” to be the closing voice on Lil Wayne’s forthcoming LP, Tha Carter IV. He recently spoke about his experience working with Lil Wayne, and the respect he has for Weezy. The LP has already been leaked–including the closing song with Busta Rhymes–but comes out officially directly after the MTV Video Music Awards, with physical copies becoming available in stores on august 29.

Lil Wayne to release ‘Tha Carter IV’ at midnight after VMAs

Lil Wayne has announced that his new album Tha Carter IV will be released shortly after his appearance on the MTV VMAs. The album will be released at midnight, immediately following the end of the show.

In a statement, Lil Wayne had this to say:

“I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope that I can open the door for others.”

Lady Gaga to open the 2011 MTV VMAs

Lady Gaga, who is up for four VMAs this year, will be delivering the show’s opening performance.

Gaga delivered the news by allowing fans to unveil a banner in New York’s Times Square.

“It means the world to me,” Gaga said of her plans for the VMAs. “I just feel really blessed every day. I have the most amazing fans.”

Bruno Mars to perform at the 2011 MTV VMAs

It’s been announced that Bruno Mars will perform at the 2011 MTV VMAs. Among the other artists set to perform are Adele, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, and Young The Giant. Aside from his performance, Bruno Mars also has four nominations.

The 2011 MTV VMAs will air live on Sunday, August 28 from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Vote for your favorite nominees before voting closes on August 16!
