UTG INTERVIEW: Cartel Talks Chroma Anniversary Tour, Vinyl Catalogue Plans

Because of scheduling conflicts, this Skate & Surf interview took place a week afterwards via phone. Cartel vocalist Will Pugh called in from Milwaukee, WI on a cold day midway through the band’s tour with New Found Glory.

We talked about the upcoming 10-year anniversary of Chroma, the Cartel discography on vinyl, and self-releasing a record after ditching label support.

Hey Will, thanks for taking some time for Under the Gun Review — you’re in Milwaukee today, am I right? How’s it going out there?

It’s going good, man. It’s cold. Which is not cool.

Holy Ghost! Debut New Single; Touring with New Order

If the retirement of LCD Soundsystem has left you wanting more, we here at Under The Gun Review have an excellent replacement. The New York duo, Holy Ghost!, debuted the video for their new single, “Dumb Disco Ideas,” which features an impressive colorful light show upon a New York rooftop. The track times out over 8 minutes, and for a song of this length doesn’t lose the listener’s attention one bit. You can purchase it now digitally, or pre-order the 200-run vinyl pressing.

The track is scheduled to be released on the upcoming album, Dynamics. Coincidentally, Holy Ghost! …

Tiny Moving Parts Sign Onto Kind Of Like Records

Property Of Zack were the first to announce earlier today that Tiny Moving Parts have signed onto Brooklyn’s Kind Of Like Records. For those who don’t remember, this Minnesota based group were one of our Five Artists To Watch In 2013 article that we published back in January.

Needless to say, we couldn’t be more stoked for this band. While there’s currently no official announcement about their upcoming follow-up to This Couch Is Long And Full Of Friendship, the band has in fact said that the first mass pressing of the album will be handled by both KOL doing …

STREAM: Giraffes? Giraffes! / Goddard 10″ Split

File this under a split I love just as much as the Pianos Become The Teeth / Touche Amore split. Massachusetts rock band Goddard and famed math rockers Giraffes? Giraffes! have digitally released their new 10″ split (which appears to be aptly titled 10″), with two new songs from Goddard and one from G?G!. The G?G! track (which may actually be three songs in one), “In The Middle Of The Night Someone Tore Off The Ceiling And Sucked Me Into The Sky / Before My Eyes Began To Boil I Saw Billions Of Tiny Webs Connecting Everything”, is …

CONTEST: Win A Signed Vinyl Copy Of Iron & Wine’s ‘Ghost On Ghost’

I don’t have to make a weak attempt at referencing the comic strip Garfield or the movie Office Space for you to understand that Mondays can be the worst. Most of us spend today returning to either school or work, which is something the majority of us would rather not be doing with our time, and it’s only the first time we’ll have to repeat this task in the coming days. Recognizing the potential horror that awaits any given Monday is something we all do, but UTG is here to help the week start a bit better for one lucky …

STREAM: Koji – “In The Line”

Here we are, less than one month away from the release of Koji‘s debut LP, Crooked In My Mind, and as of today we finally have an official lead single from the record. “In The Line” shows a lot of maturity in comparison to this Run For Cover artist’s past material. Included in the announcement of the stream was also the unveiling of the record’s pre-order packages.

What really makes this packaging strategy stick out among others is that along with the typical products and bundles like t-shirts, beanies, and the always worthwhile 3xLP deal, a portion of the …

MUSIC VIDEO: Captain Murphy – “The Killing Joke”

Before Flying Lotus came out as the masked rapper Captain Murphy, we fell in love with his mixtape Duality.

One of the most prominent tracks on the tape is the sinisterly sweet “The Killing Joke” which lasts a mere 2 minutes. Today, official visuals have appeared on the Captain’s YouTube page.

Starting with a sample of Os Mutantes’ “Ave Lucifer,” we’re introduced to the black and white images that flash in and out of focus throughout the clip. When Murphy takes over for the verse, a pair of shimmering lips dance around a non existent face, hidden by …
