UTG PREMIERE: Undesirable People – “Cosmic Man”

Our love affair with Undesirable People is well recorded, but I don’t think we have ever believed in the band as much as we do at this very moment. Undesirable People have long proven themselves to be a strong force in the world of authentic alternative rock, and their latest offering is their best yet.

You may have seen a few new Undesirable People tracks floating around the web in recent weeks, and if so know there is good reason for that. The band is currently preparing to self-release their first full-length album, titled Eternal Vision of a Blind Future

We believe the band is destined for great things, and today we have the honor of sharing their latest music video with the world at large.

The Money Pit Will Fill The Hole Left By Gatsby’s American Dream

You can cut your hair and dress better than you did in college, but deep down all your mid-oughts emo and scene kids know your heart will always be glued to your shoulder with the permanent adhesive known as Jesse Lacey’s best lyrics. I know it and you know it. Just accept it and we can move on.

Alright. We all know the best bands of that era died too soon and most of those who didn’t have done everything in their power to evolve into something more than they were when they mattered to you. I prefer the ones …

UTG PREMIERE: Treason This – “Moviegoers Dilemma”

If there is one genre of alternative music with fiercer competition right now than pop punk I have yet to discover it. Still, as countless groups come and go with songs not good enough to hold our attention, a few young groups are breaking through the noise with catchy tracks too good to deny.

Milwaukee quartet Treason This hail from a place almost no one considers a music hub, at least for the pop punk scene. Regardless, this promising young act have the songwriting chops and music talent needed to be something great, and today we’re thrilled to present the …

Sechion Might Be Your New Favorite Rapper

Anyone who has followed UTG for more than a few years knows our roots lie in the Midwest. The first few years this site existed, our staff, while not neighbors in any way, all resided in the middle of America. We have since grown and spread out, with regular contributors located all over the world, but our passion for promoting promising regional talent is as strong as ever.

Boston is rarely the first city that comes to mind when discussing hip-hop, and the nearby city of Lowell is even farther down that list, but a rapper by the name of …

Actor Observer 2015

UTG PREMIERE: Actor Observer – “Steel Yourself” (Video)

Today is a good day, my friends. After years of being one of our favorite bands to promote, Actor Observer have joined forces with UTG to share the exclusive world premiere of their new video.

Oh, you don’t know Actor Observer? That’s not exactly okay, as they are without a doubt one of the most promising young bands to exist in the last decade, but for the sake of moving things along we will go ahead and give you a pass (this time). The band is currently preparing to release their new album, The Longer Now, on March 10. …

War Games May Be The Next Band To Change Your Life

I was fortunate enough to spend several weeks participating in the Vans Warped Tour during the summer of 2012. My job, which at the time involved working for a music industry start-up focused on new artist discovery, sponsored a stage on the world’s largest traveling festival that offered more than 20 up-and-coming artists a chance to perform. We needed someone on site every day to coordinate and I was the lucky one chosen to carry out that task. It was a life-changing experience, and along the way it provided me several opportunities to discover new bands with a lot of …

UTG PREMIERE: Variants – “Idle Eyes” (Studio Performance)

The weekend is just around the corner, and if you’re anything like us you’re in need of the perfect soundtrack to help say goodbye to the work week. We don’t make music ourselves, but thanks to the talented men of Variants we have just the record for you.

Today, for the first time in our history, UTG is thrilled to partner with up-and-coming rock act Variants to premiere a video featuring a studio performance of their song “Idle Eyes.” We’re also excited to announce that the band’s debut record, The Concept of Color, is free for a limited time

Eden The Cat

Eden The Cat Is The ‘Amateur’ Songwriter No One Can Resist

Every year I tell myself I am going to dedicate more time to writing about artists on the rise that no one else makes time to cover, and every year those good intentions fade before the heat of summer arrives. Though I often find myself inundated with music from unsigned artists, I’ve honestly never written about a band who sent me an unsolicited email and never contacted me again. The artists I cover tend to be those who either attempt to build a relationship with the site, were suggested to me by a friend, or – and this may piss …

9 artists to watch

UTG’s 9 Artists To Watch In 2015

We don’t keep many traditions around UTG, but one column we look forward to piecing together every year is our annual Artists To Watch list.

We have highlighted several bands in recent years who later went on to make big impacts on music, including Tiny Moving Parts, Dangerkids, and Bad Rabbits.

This year we could not settle on only choosing five so, in hopes of keeping our editors from violently assaulting one another in the name of promoting good music, we decided to include nine fantastic artists on the rise that we feel you need to watch …

UTG VIDEO PREMIERE: The Weekend Classic – “Fireworks”

This may very well be the last UTG premiere of 2014. If true, at least we are going out with a bang.

The Weekend Classic have been on our radar since the release of their debut double single at the tail-end of summer. Their unique take on the border between pop-punk and pop-rock offers catchy hooks and infectious melodies that no one can shake. We have done everything in our power to keep you updated on their plans up to this point, and today we are thrilled to share the world premiere of their video for “Fireworks.”

Set to home …

UTG PREMIERE: Bornstellar – ‘Self Destruct’ EP

Less than a year after coming together in the name of rock and roll, Bornstellar have written and recorded a killer EP that demands your full attention.

It’s hard to know what to write about Bornstellar that hasn’t already been said in a dozen other articles found here on UTG. Founded in December 2013, this hard rock outfit hail from South Carolina with a sound that blends elements of hard and alternative rock with just enough mainstream magic in the mix to have broad appeal. Their new release, the Self Destruct EP, features five great tracks that will have you …
