Tonight Is Not The Final Fireworks Show

Tonight, after nearly a decade spent touring the world, Michigan pop rock outfit Fireworks are performing what will be their last show for the foreseeable future. This is not the same thing as their final show, and we felt it was important to remind you of the difference.

2015 has been a big year for the alternative scene. Between controversies, big singles, and bands falling apart it can be very hard to keep every band’s current plans straight in your head. When Fireworks announced this current tour would be their last before taking a well-deserved break, the defenders of …

CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY: Thrice Tease 2015 Return

I know you are probably spending a few minutes of each day looking at the growing number of colorful packages under your Christmas tree and fantasizing about what each box might contain. I do the same thing, but this morning I learned that sometimes the best presents don’t have a box or wrapping paper at all. Sometimes the best gifts come in the form of plans, and today the members of Thrice teased plans for the new year.

Yes, after a few years of hiatus, Thrice have begun to tease what will likely be a resurgence for the band in …

UTG INTERVIEW: Maps for Travelers Talk New Album; Release Live Recording of New Song

Patience is one of the toughest lessons to learn in anything. The ability to overcome adversity and see something good through the rough is what separates the men from the boys.

Maps for Travelers of Kansas City are no strangers to that. Signing with No Sleep Records last year, and putting out a killer record shortly after, didn’t happen without hardships. Multiple member changes took place within the band which made recording hectic, but these guys have seen the sunrise. Now they’re on a hard grind of playing shows, reaching new grounds and perfecting their already superb live shows by …

Dave Grohl

Dave Grohl Believes Crowdfunded Shows Could Be Future Of Touring

Dave Grohl is a badass visionary who has made it his life’s work to make sure people understand the power music can possess. That’s not something he has stated publicly or written in some rarely read blog, but rather an outsider’s perspective on what the Foo Fighters’ frontman has spent his life working towards. Be it recording or speaking publicly, Grohl has done everything in his power to make people care about real music once again.

Recently, Grohl took his efforts to move the industry forward one step further by speaking out in favor of seeing more bands perform crowdfunded …

Grab The Tissues: Morrissey Signs to Harvest Records, Releasing New Album This Year

I’m still trying to decide whether or not there is a double entendre in the headline above.

Legendary vocalist and former Smiths frontman Morrissey announced today that he has signed a record deal with Harvest/Columbia and is currently planning to release an album of new material before the end of the year.

According to a press release issued earlier today, Morrissey will enter the studio in the near future to work on his follow-up to 2009’s Years Of Refusal. It will be produced by Joe Chiccarelli (the White Stripes, Beck, the Strokes), and recorded with his touring band, Boz …

Garth Brooks Will Tour In 2014

It has been over a decade since country music legend Garth Brooks toured the nation, and in that time a lot has changed in the world of music. Still, it’s hard to find any country station that doesn’t have at least a few hits from his iconic catalog still in regular rotation. He’s proof you can walk away without losing any respect, and next year his patient fans will finally have the chance to see him perform once more.

Speaking with Good Morning America in a new interview, Garth Brooks revealed he is ready to return to the world of …

Chvrches Release Short Video On Touring

Chvrches, who have been all over the net lately regarding their stellar debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, and front-woman Lauren Mayberry’s fantastic piece against internet misogyny, have released a short, but sweet video following the band while on tour.

The video has some pretty awesome clips of the band performing, along with small interview snippets, in which the band members talk about their personal feelings towards tour, the lifestyle of touring, and what it is like for Chvrches now. Chvrches is one of the most heartfelt bands out there at the moment, and it should …

BUMMER: The Red Chord Are In A State Of ‘Limbo’

Today has been a pretty wild day for our metal readers. First there was the rumor that Suicide Silence have replaced fallen frontman Mitch Lucker, and now thanks to Facebook we have reason to be concerned about the future of The Red Chord.

Fans of hard rock have likely noticed the prolonged absence of The Red Chord from the music scene. Since vocalist Guy Kozowyk was sworn in as a police officer in the state of New Hampshire back in April the band has essentially been silent as far as updates, plans, and touring is concerned. We tried to reach …

UTG EXCLUSIVE: RX Bandits Are “all pretty hip to the idea of making new music”

RX Bandits just wrapped up their excellent 10-year anniversary tour for their 2003 release, The Resignation. You can view our pics from the opening date in San Francisco here.

11 dates later on July 20, UTG staffers Derek Scancarelli and Josh Hammond caught up with those damn bandits at the New York date for an interview where they discussed everything from The Resignation tour, to the members’ various side projects, to Steve Choi’s hilarity filled Twitter posts, but one moment in particular that got our bones shaking with excitement and anticipation was when the band was asked …

10 Years Later: Cody Votolato Discusses ‘Burn, Piano Island, Burn’

Nostalgia has pretty much overtaken the internet in 2013. From comeback albums, to films, television, and even Tamagotchi, people seem more obsessed than ever with the (relatively) recent past. We thought for a long time about launching a column that celebrated this mutual adoration for days gone by, but in the end decided such a feature would take away from how important certain events and works of art truly are to our community. So instead of bringing to light every notable item to hits the decade mark this year, we’ve decided to highlight only a select few, …
