UTG INTERVIEW: The Tontons @ Middle of the Map Fest

When you think of Houston, TX, what do you think of? ZZ Top? Destiny’s Child? Maybe…Blue October? Some southern gospel…maybe? But chilled-out indie isn’t necessarily the vibes I get when I think about one of the largest cities in the country. But The Tontons deliver just that. The band just released their latest album, Make Out King and Other Stories of Love, and have caught some glances, not only with the album itself, but with their relaxing, yet in-your-face live show that leaves nothing in its path.

As they made their way to Kansas City for Middle of the …

I Watched Miley Cyrus Cry On Stage For 120 Minutes Last Night

Having spent the last year watching Miley Cyrus transform from Disney Channel starlet to pop music chart-topper most have seen naked so many times that they no longer consider such imagery newsworthy, I knew from the moment the announcement was made that there was no way on Earth I could pass up the opportunity to see her live when the highly-publicized Bangerz tour rolled through Boston’s TD Garden. I expected spectacle and high-gloss raunch to the highest degree, which was delivered from the start, but I did not expect to see America’s most controversial pop star spend the evening reminding …

Showbread Are Teasing Something Related To Their Debut Album

Oh, Showbread. You never did like to be direct with your marketing efforts.

This morning, the social networks for Showbread lit up with an image post referencing the promotional imagery for the band’s debut album, No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical. That record was released in September 2004, which means it is currently celebrating a decade of existence. As far as we know, Showbread have not announced any plans to tour or revisit the record up to this point, but the image shared today leads us to believe something is indeed being planned for the months ahead. You …

UTG INTERVIEW: Pure Noise Records’ Founder Jake Round Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary

In 2009, Jake Round founded Pure Noise Records in California. Although he’d had no previous experience in single-handedly operating a record label, he was still able to turn a loan from his mother into one of the driving forces in independent pop punk, rock, indie, and hardcore.

In 2014, we are celebrating the five-year anniversary of Pure Noise Records, which has come a long way from a split decision to release a No Bragging Rights record. Perhaps you can accredit Round’s success to his longtime involvement in the local music scene, his time spent interning at a record label, or …

CHVRCHES

CHVRCHES Announce Summer Tour Dates

The ever hard working electro-pop trio CHVRCHES always seem to be on the road, but in case you are a fool like me and have yet to see them live, us Americans have another chance.

Hitting up much of the U.S. before hooking up with some summer festivals, the band will be crossing the U.S. through the months of April, May, and June. Supporting their stellar debut release The Bones of What You Believe, the band has been a staple in current electronic music. Featuring sounds from veteran-ed Scottish musicians, as well as lush melodies, the band has been …

The Ataris Hoping To Release New Music This Year

In a recent interview with Chicagoist, Ataris frontman Kris Roe announced that the Indiana-based quartet is hoping to release a new album by the end of the year.

C: How do feel about the future of The Ataris? I know there have been a lot of setbacks and lineup changes over the years.

KRISTOPHER ROE: Honestly, on paper that stuff looks really crazy…but it doesn’t hinder us. For me The Ataris are just an ongoing thing. When we’re out on the road if somebody has a drug problem or something—which has happened before—I don’t want to be a babysitter. …

WHY? Release “Waterlines” Music Video, Yoni Wolf Announces Solo Rap Tour

This year marks the 10 years since WHY? first formed back in 2004 in Berkeley, CA. The alternative hip hop group was started by Yoni Wolf, and today we have news regarding both.

WHY?’s last album, Mumps, Etc, came out back in 2012, but today the band has shared a music video for the track “Waterlines.” It’s straightforward in its shots, showing nothing but Wolf rapping sartorially in some shades against a yellow wall, but effective all the same. Watch it after the jump.

Along with the video comes news that both WHY? and Yoni Wolf (solo) will be touring. …
