MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Vacation’ Isn’t Worth The Trip Down Holiday Road

Film: Vacation
Starring: Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Chris Hemsworth
Directed by: Jonathan M. Goldstein, John Francis Daley

Vacation–the successor to the last entry in the National Lampoon comedy series–opens on a series of pictures depicting seemingly idyllic families enjoying their vacations. In ye olde National Lampoon fashion, there are also a few visual gags centered on puking and erections (luckily, not in the same frame). From the get-go, this spiritual sequel (reboot? who cares?) is already trying to bring back the kind of humor that made the original quadrilogy so famous. Instead of relying on sight gags and absurdist …

New ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Footage Debuts Online

Ask any comic book fan what the biggest surprise of last week was and they will almost certainly tell you it was the leak of the first trailer for Avengers: Age Of Ultron. The clip, which was originally scheduled to premiere this week, hit the net days before its planned release. Marvel initially responded by uploading an HD version of the trailer, and during last night’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode the company took their efforts one step further by revealing a short clip from the new film.

Thor’s hammer is one of the great oddities in the Marvel universe. …

Marvel Announces Eight New Films, Including ‘Black Panther’ & ‘Captain America: Civil War’

DC Comics just got beat at their own game, and it’s going to take a miracle for their next move to top the announcement made by Marvel earlier today.

Marvel Entertainment surprised fans and members of the press over the weekend by inviting them to a mysterious event in downtown Los Angeles today, October 28. Those who made it in the door were treated to the reveal of not one, but eight new Marvel titles, as well as nine release dates. Why nine? Because the third Avengers film is going to be split into two parts.

The films announced include:…

The middle of the work week is upon us, and if you’re anything like the UTG staff you could probably use a good laugh to help get you through the day.

Following a solid run at the box office in November, Thor: The Dark World is now promoting its home video release, and amongst the many bonus features finding their way online in recent weeks was the film’s hilarious gag reel. From flubbed lines, to hard slaps, hazardous capes, and more than a few silly faces, the footage offered reveals a side of the filmmaking process many never get to …

‘Thor 3’ Confirmed By Marvel

This should not surprise many, but it is nice to have official confirmation. As Marvel continues their onslaught of superhero cinema, and as DC tries way too hard to catch up, Marvel will be adding Thor 3 to their upcoming roster of films. Alongside the recently announced Captain America 3, Thor 3 will begin production soon. Being written by Christopher Yost and Marvel’s senior vice president of production, Craig Kyle, the film is in capable hands. Do not let Craig Kyle’s fancy title fool you, he has contributed to many comic story-lines in Marvel history.

Speaking on the matter, …

Idris Elba Confirms He Was In Talks For ‘Luke Cage’

Although development has now halted on the proposed Luke Cage Marvel film adaptation, British actor Idris Elba has confirmed that he did in fact speak with Marvel about playing the character.

“There was talk about Luke Cage at one time — I thought Luke Cage was a pretty interesting character,” says Elba, “They were going to do it, but I don’t know what happened.” Well, we now know at least that the character will be developed into a Netflix series, though it doesn’t seem that Elba will be involved.

Elba also shot down rumors that he was in talks for …

‘Thor: The Dark World’ Overpowers Competitors Throughout The November 8-10 Weekend

Like most of the superhero movies that have premiered in the past several years, Thor: The Dark World left a major dent in the total amount of ticket sales. Considering that there has been over 85 million dollars made in its debut weekend alone, we’re pretty sure that Chris Hemsworth and company will be earning a pretty penny. This makes for an increase of around 20 million in weekend debuts for the franchise, whose original film (Thor) made 65 million on its premiere weekend in 2011. Last week’s top film, Ender’s Game, experienced a major fall in …

Movie Sequel Round-Up: Prometheus, X-Men: First Class, And Thor 2

It may seem that Hollywood is swiftly becoming naught but a hotbed of sequels and reboots, but three high-profile projects in the news this morning at least have real potential. First up, Ridley Scott has been hinting at a sequel to his recent sci-fi opus Prometheus, with sources pointing to a 2014 or 2015 release date. It seems Scott and studio Fox have been discussing the mooted follow-up with potential writers and aim to continue the story of Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw and Michael Fassbender’s David (or rather, David’s disembodied head) and their journey across the skies.

EDITORIAL: “The Dark Knight Rises: Why The Caped Crusader Couldn’t Take Down The Avengers”

The Dark Knight Rises
marks the unofficial end of the 2012 summer movie season, one that has seen its fair share of surprises and disappointments. Although August still has some high-profile releases left – Total Recall, The Bourne Legacy, and The Expendables II among them – the major studios have all released their $200 million dollar box office contenders by now. Marketing budgets were exhausted and records were set, but the party is now over and the next few weeks should see a calmer box office. Warner Brothers’ TDKR was to be the final celebration of the season, …
