It may seem that Hollywood is swiftly becoming naught but a hotbed of sequels and reboots, but three high-profile projects in the news this morning at least have real potential. First up, Ridley Scott has been hinting at a sequel to his recent sci-fi opus Prometheus, with sources pointing to a 2014 or 2015 release date. It seems Scott and studio Fox have been discussing the mooted follow-up with potential writers and aim to continue the story of Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw and Michael Fassbender’s David (or rather, David’s disembodied head) and their journey across the skies.

The Dark Knight Rises marks the unofficial end of the 2012 summer movie season, one that has seen its fair share of surprises and disappointments. Although August still has some high-profile releases left – Total Recall, The Bourne Legacy, and The Expendables II among them – the major studios have all released their $200 million dollar box office contenders by now. Marketing budgets were exhausted and records were set, but the party is now over and the next few weeks should see a calmer box office. For the legions of fans eagerly awaiting Marvel’s superhero fest The Avengers, May 4th is still an eternity away. A lucky few will get to see it a almost a month early however as Marvel announced yesterday that the movie will premiere on April 11th in Hollywood.
Earlier this week we unveiled some behind-the-scenes footage from the set of The Avengers. The explosions were cool, but really didn’t show us anything relating to the actual story/movie.
