UTG INTERVIEW: Frank Iero Shows Simplistic Brilliance With New Record

Frank Iero stands with confidence behind his merchandise table. It’s a simple table — a few shirts hang while a stack of posters and records occupy the space between Iero and his patrons. He smiles as he deals out his products — all of which contain the symbol Iero created to represent his music.

Every person who comes to the table is greeted with poise and energy. A father of a group of young girls shakes Iero’s hand with vigor and tells him he came all the way from Cleveland for his show in Des Moines tonight. A mother walks …

Ten Years Later: The Used’s ‘In Love And Death’

“Life’s greatest questions have always been: Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? You are about to see and hear one of the most significant messages given to us from God.”

When I was in my elementary school years as a little boy not knowing the world yet (that is the world of music), I was a full-on Green Day and Blink-182 fan. I didn’t listen to anything else for I was in the process of learning guitar and I already felt accomplished learning all of their tracks. Then it was …

FESTIVAL PREVIEW: 10 Cover Songs We Hope To Hear at Riot Fest Chicago

Nothing gets a festival crowd going like a good cover tune, so it’s no surprise that many of my favorite memories from Riot Fest 2013 involved covers. The festival opened on Friday afternoon with Hatebreed paying tribute to fallen Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman with their cover of “Ghosts of War,” during which Jamey Jasta made the proclamation that you should “never marry a woman who doesn’t like Slayer,” and it’s hard to argue with the man. The festival ended on a high note as well, with Sunday performers AFI offering their take on The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” just before …

UTG INTERVIEW: Bert McCracken (The Used) @ SXSW

When sitting down with Bert McCracken, frontman of The Used, it doesn’t take but mere seconds to absorb the aroma of positive energy the singer gives off. It fills the room and swells as the alternative scene legend speaks passionately about topics that influence his demeanor. He gives off the essence of truly wanting to engage in conversation of passion and wit, two factors difficult to come by in a scene full of monotonous conversation and mundane responses. Bert is balanced and calm, with a subtle flare in his voice as he reveals his feelings about the American …

The Used Release New Song, Music Video

The Used will be releasing Imaginary Enemy on April 1 via Hopeless Records, and have just released the first single, “Cry,” with an accompanying music video. The track is a solid effort that falls in line with the sound we’ve come to love from The Used over the years.
