This Acoustic Version Of The Swellers’ “Best I Ever Had” Will Make Pop Punk Loving Hearts Burst With Joy

The perfect song for Warped Tour has just become the perfect song for your next campfire with friends.

It’s incredibly hard to put into words what happens to someone when a song as good as The Swellers’ summertime classic “Best I Ever Had” comes barreling through a stereo system. In a few short notes you, the listener, are transported from wherever you are to the first time you thought you knew what love was, then overwhelmed with the fresh pain of realizing you could not have been more wrong. You don’t cry, however, because those years when you felt …

The Swellers Release B-Sides Collection

The Swellers have been going strong for more than a decade, producing five full-lengths and a slew of EPs in the process. In that time, quite a bit of material has ended up on the cutting room floor, and now you can hear some choice cuts from the Swellers’ vault on B-Sides and Rarities. The seventeen-track collection is available now on the Michigan-based group’s Bandcamp page for only five dollars.

Highlights from B-Sides and Rarities include an unreleased track from the Good For Me sessions called “Break,” an acoustic demo of “Possibilities” from the early stages of writing The

FREE DOWNLOAD: Braided Veins – ‘Future/Forever’

Even though Braided Veins‘ lineup features Jonathan Diener, better known as the drummer of The Swellers, their grungy punk is a far cry from the pristine anthems of Diener’s day job. Their only release thus far, titled Future/Forever, is roaring blast of energy and, as if you needed more reason to check it out, it’s free on Bandcamp this week.

The EP is also available on 12″ vinyl through Save Your Generation Records. Cassettes, test presses, and other Braided Veins merchandise can be found right here.

WEEKLY WAX: Vinyl Releases For The Week Of 12/15-12/21

It’s a well-known feeling among vinyl collectors: Just when you thought all of your Christmas shopping was done and all your loose ends were wrapped up for the year, a new pre-order pops up that you just have to grab. A lot of people were probably feeling that this week with the reissues of scene classics like Cartel’s Ransom EP and The Bled’s Pass the Flask, not to mention the next round in the recent deluge of Blink-182 re-pressings.

Pre-orders for 2014 releases are in full swing as well, with new records in the pipeline from Seahaven, The Hotelier, …

Troy Sennett’s ‘Best of 2013′ In Music

Let’s talk about moments.

Around 5:00 PM on June 8, 2013, I watched Spitalfield play “Stolen From Some Great Writer” to an empty theater. This was a band I never thought I would have the chance to see live soundchecking for a ten-year anniversary performance of Remember Right Now, a record that had a huge impact on me as a musician and as a person in my early teens. It was intensely personal and universal at the same time, one of those moments that made me feel like a part of something bigger than myself while also acting as …

The Swellers Release New Music Video

The Swellers have released a party-themed music video for their next single, “Got Social,” and you can check it out after the break. The song comes from The Light Under Closed Doors, the Flint, Michigan band’s fifth full-length and first release for No Sleep Records.

The Swellers proved themselves road warriors this fall on a recently completed back-to-their-roots tour, where they played small venues, houses, back yards, and anywhere else that would have them. Here’s hoping they carry the momentum from the tour and the excellent new record well into 2014.

UTG EXCLUSIVE STREAM: Forever Came Calling – “Campfire Kansas (The Get Up Kids Tribute)”

Forever Came Calling deliver a splash of southern California pop-punk on a unique rendition of “Campfire Kansas,” originally by emo-rock legends The Get Up Kids.

Forever Came Calling does an excellent job of not only giving justice to a song by one of the most influential bands of an era, FCC really made the song their own. “Campfire Kansas” is given a new energy with Forever Came Calling’s version, without losing everything that made it great with the first spin. The song is part of an entire 18-track tribute record to The Get Up Kids being released via Pacific

The Swellers Stream New Album

The last couple years have been quite a ride for The Swellers. In 2011, the Flint, MI quartet released Good For Me on Fueled By Ramen before parting ways with the label less than a year later. They then self-released a stellar EP, Running Out of Places To Go, before finding a new and more fitting home at No Sleep Records, also home to fellow Michiganders La Dispute.

The Swellers’ first release for No Sleep is The Light Under Closed Doors, a raw pop punk record that finds the band stripping down their sound to its core …

REVIEW: The Swellers – ‘The Light Under Closed Doors’

Artist: The Swellers
Album: The Light Under Closed Doors
Genre: Pop punk

The Swellers might be the most underappreciated band in pop punk. After more than eleven years, four full-length records, and a trip through the label ringer, the Flint, MI quartet is so used to the lack of recognition that it has even become part of their brand. All that could change soon though. The Swellers have found a new (and more fitting) home on No Sleep Records, and their first release for the label, The Light Under Closed Doors, is their most raw and honest work yet.…

The Swellers Release New Single, “High/Low”

Michigan punk mainstays The Swellers released a new song, “High/Low,” and its video at midnight. Yet another track made available from their upcoming back-to-basics album The Light Under Closed Doors, the track has a slow, measured stomp to it that’s heavy both on the ears and those ever played-upon heartstrings. The emotional heft is abetted by the lo-fi capture of an adorable little blonde boy wandering through the Michigan wilderness to escape a tumultuous home life.

“High/Low” follows uptempo first single “Should” - which contains the album’s titular lyric – and the even more loved “Becoming
