MOVIE REVIEW: ‘The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies’ Is All Filler And No Killer

Film: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Starring: Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch
Directed by: Peter Jackson

The big finale to Peter Jackson’s second Middle Earth trilogy is finally here, for better or worse. Jackson took a 300-page children’s book and the appendices left by the Tolkien estate to cultivate a new adventure, and for the most part, two-thirds of the trilogy made for some enjoyable celluloid. Alas though, sequences that induce giddy joy like the barrel riding scene in Desolation of Smaug are all but gone in what is the worst film of the two trilogies. …

MOVIE REVIEW: ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1′ Leaves A Lot To Be Desired

Film: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1
Starring: Jennifer Lawrence
Directed by: Francis Lawrence

I can still clearly recall walking out of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with a sense of disbelief coursing through my veins. After being horribly underwhelmed by the initial outing of the Hunger Games franchise, the first sequel proved to be top notch entertainment. I was legitimately excited for the next chapter, despite the fact it was the first entry in a two-part finale fans of the novels had told me never really needed to be split. I didn’t care, at least not at the time, …

‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1′ Continues To Dominate The Box Office

It should be a surprise to no one that the top grossing movie this week is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1. The first of two installments for the final chapter of the trilogy has killed its competition two weeks in a row now. Last weekend it opened with an impressive $121,000,000 debut. This weekend it saw a more than a 53% decrease in sales, but that was still enough to bring in more than double the amount of the next highest grossing movie.

Trailing behind the behemoth series is Penguins Of Madagascar, which brought in $25,800,000 in …

Jennifer Lawrence May Soon Have Her First Top 40 Hit

In a world where major studios control most films and major labels control most widely promoted artists, it’s sometimes hard to believe that there is still a place for fans to turn certain songs into hits that may otherwise never be given a chance to shine. This happens when small artists blow up, such as Smallpools, but as we learned with Anna Kendrick and Pitch Perfect it can also apply to film. “Cups (When I’m Gone)” was a smash at radio, as well as the Billboard singles chart thanks entirely to fan demand, and now it seems …

‘Mockingjay’ Crushes Weekend Competition

Should we really expect anything less from the global behemoth that The Hunger Games franchise has now become? The third installment of the series, Mockingjay — Part 1, premiered this weekend to $123 million dollars.

They may be high, but in comparison to the $152+ million opening supplied by the 2012 Hunger Games film, these numbers do come in a little stale. However, things will certainly pick up as we approach the holiday season, starting with Thanksgiving weekend.

Follow the jump for a listing of this week’s top ten highest grossing films.…

Lorde Contributes Bright Eyes Cover for ‘Hunger Games’ Soundtrack

Recently we’ve seen young singing sensation Lorde maintain her pop relevance with the release of “Yellow Flicker Beat.”

The song, which will be part of the soundtrack for the highly-anticipated Hunger Games sequel, Mockingjay Pt. 1, has stormed radio stations since its release and even caught the attention of rapper/producer Kanye West, who released a reworked version for the movie soundtrack.

Not long after after, we also saw Lorde deliver a chilling rendition of Jeremih‘s “Don’t Tell ‘Em” on BBCRadio 1′s Live Lounge.

So what is Lorde doing now? Well, it seems she will be …

Kanye West Reworks Lorde’s “Yellow Flicker Beat” For ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One’ Soundtrack

While the chances of Kayne West dropping a new record in 2014 are looking grim, we’ve been blessed with a couple of great remixes from Yeezy in the past few months. The latest addition to his creative body of work is a re-tooling of Lorde’s contribution to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One soundtrack.

Kanye shows his powerful production skills in a toned-down and ambient rendition of the New Zealand singer’s latest single. While I was hoping for a verse, it’s clear that it wouldn’t have been a necessary addition – the track serves as a reminder that Kanye’s production …

Lorde Dances By Herself In “Yellow Flicker Beat” Video

Lorde has released the official video for the first of her three contributions to the upcoming film, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

Yellow Flicker Beat” was written by Lorde with the character Katniss Everdeen in mind, but it doesn’t feel all that different from the material that made up the New Zealand native’s 2013 debut. The video captures the haunting and often lonely sounding tones of the song by showcasing the teen vocalist in a number of secluded/seedy locations. When not performing, Lorde is doing a bit of dancing, but don’t expect a “Shake It

CHVRCHES Stream ‘Hunger Games’ Contribution “Dead Air”

There was a time not too long ago when Lorde made headlines for sharing one of her contributions to the upcoming film, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Her song was great and everything fans had hoped the young singer would deliver, but she is not the only headline grabbing talent to have a new song featured on the highly-anticipated film’s soundtrack.

This morning, Scottish synth pop trio CHVRCHES shared a stream of a new song titled “Dead Air.” The song, which is also set to appear in Mockingjay Part 1, is everything you would expect from the …

Katniss Fights Back In New Trailer For ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1’

After months of viral videos and promotional posters, the full trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 has appeared online.

Without going too far into spoiler territory, the last time fans saw Katniss she was being air lifted out of a very scary situation. She realized everything she thought to be true about society was a lie, and though it was never said aloud she also probably pieced together the fact most of the known world was looking to her for guidance. Mockingjay — Part 1 finds Katniss rising to be the leader she was born to become, …
