2013 best of music

Jacob Tender’s ‘Best Of 2013′ In Music

‘Tis the season to make the most difficult choices I have to make all year. Seriously, my life is easy enough to make that statement true. I hate making these lists, more-so this year than any year previous. Yet I’m obligated to do so. So here I am.

You see, in January, I told myself that it would be a good idea to listen to more music. What resulted in that was a fine list of albums that I liked, some that I loved, and some that surprised me. Come December, I had roughly 90 records in a tidy Google …

Matthew Leimkuehler Album of the Year

Matthew Leimkuehler’s ‘Best of 2013′ In Music

2013 was a year full of insurmountable twists and turns with each new record release. One of the best years in recent memory, music fans world-wide rejoiced over incredible releases amongst all genres in the industry. As the year comes to an end, it has been overwhelmingly difficult to narrow down a list of simply 10 LPs and 5 EPs that made a lasting impact on my life; there were so many substantial and complete records delivered throughout the year.

I found myself latching to records I never thought I’d give two listens (Twenty One Pilots — Vessel), I …

Over the next week and a half, we are going to be bringing you a multiple-part series dissecting the lineup of Riot Fest Chicago and telling you why we think this particular event in …

The Dear Hunter

The Dear Hunter Share “Shouting at the Rain” Music Video, Talk About Symphony Project

With ambitious projects always set out infront of themselves, Rhode Island’s The Dear Hunter bite off more than what normal musicians can chew. The difference between themselves and other prog-rock indie bands is that they can actually finish it. With the three novel-esque Act albums as well as nine EPs for The Color Spectrum, their enormous projects are nothing but impressive. Now, frontman Casey Crescenzo is planning a new symphony (really, a symphony) after just releasing Migrant earlier this year. While he does have a lot on his future plate, Migrant is still on his mind as The Dear …

Dear Hunter Frontman Casey Crescenzo Crowdfunding First Symphony Recording

The name Casey Crescenzo has become synonymous with the idea of big, epic alternative rock and roll. From his work with The Receiving End Of Sirens to his more recent efforts with The Dear Hunter, Casey has repeatedly pushed the boundaries of music with creative instrumentation and unique storytelling, but nothing in his past can prepare fans for the project he has his eyes set on next.

Turning to PledgeMusic in hopes of making his latest dream a reality, Casey Crescenzo is currently crowdfunding the recording of his very first symphony, which he plans to create with the assistance …

The Dear Hunter To Go On Tour With String Quartet

The Dear Hunter have announced that they will be heading out on tour with a string quartet this coming September. Likely due to the beautiful outcome of having a quartet join them for the filming of their The Color Spectrum Live DVD, the band decided to do a full tour with an orchestral backing.

The band will be accompanied by yet to be announced guests on each date of the tour as well. You can read a message from the band’s record label, Equal Vision Records, and a list of the dates by taking a look below the jump.

MUSIC VIDEO: The Dear Hunter – “Whisper”

The new music video for The Dear Hunter‘s “Whisper” was released recently.

The song is off of Dear Hunter mainstay Casey Crescenzo’s new album, Migrant, which debuted on April 2.

In the video, shot in black and white to give it more of an old school feel, a wonderful narrative reminiscent of King Kong is played out as a young boy attempts to save his lover from a wild beast.

In support of the new album, The Dear Hunter is currently on tour with Naive Thieves. Tour dates can be found here.

REVIEW: The Dear Hunter – Migrant

Artist: The Dear Hunter
Album: Migrant
Label: Cave and Canary Goods/Equal Vision Records

The Dear Hunter‘s new record is beautiful. This we can expect. But the level, the delivery of its beauty, this is where songwriter Casey Crescenzo and co. take our breath yet again. Migrant is unlike anything heard from The Dear Hunter before. It captures a perfect blend of elegance and transparency, while still conveying subtle theatrics that fans have grown to love about the band. Where Migrant truly stands out among other The Dear Hunter releases comes in not what Casey has done on this record, …
