Trivium Frontman Writes About Suicide Prevention

Trivium frontman Matt Heafy recently came across an opinion piece on CNN‘s website written by a woman, Dorothy Paugh, who lost who son to suicide by gun just over a year ago. In the image accompanying the piece, Paugh’s son can be seen wearing a Trivium t-shirt. Heafy was so moved by the woman’s story, which can be read here, that he felt compelled to write a message to fans about suicide, taking steps to prevent it, and his own struggles with depression. Seattle Newspaper Posts Previously Unpublished Photos From Kurt Cobain Suicide Scene

Nineteen years ago today the world lost Kurt Donald Cobain, frontman of legendary grunge act Nirvana. Cobain chose to take his own life from inside his Seattle home, and every year on this day fans around the world remember his contributions to the world by listening to his music, reading his journals, and (in the modern age) discussing his legacy on social networks. One Seattle newspaper is getting in on the memories as well by releasing previously unpublished photos from the the suicide scene, and it’s a decision that is sure to stir the emotions of many.

Tonight just took a turn for the tragic.

According to various sources (and seemingly stemming from TheWrap), Tony Scott, director of such films as Top Gun and True Romance, has died of an apparent suicide. He was 68.

From what we’ve been able to gather since learning of Scott’s death, it seems the famed filmmaker jumped off the Vincent Thomas bridge near Long Beach on Sunday and died from his injuries. Marilyn Monroe Died 50 Years Ago Today

On this day in 1962, actress, model and cultural icon, Marilyn Monroe, committed suicide at the age of 36. Police were called to Monroe’s home in Los Angeles at 4:25am and found the actress face-down and nude on her bed with a telephone to her ear. There were also empty pill bottles strewn around her bedroom.

Monroe was taking several anti-depressants to treat her depression at the time. A later autopsy found chloral hydrate and Nembutal in her system at the time of her death.

MUSIC HISTORY CLASS: The Death of Kurt Cobain

On this day in 1994, legendary Rock and Grunge icon, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, committed suicide in his Seattle, Washington apartment. However, Cobain’s body was not discovered until 8 April when Veca Electric employee, Gary Smith, was at Cobain’s residence to install new security lights. Smith noticed a lifeless body on the floor of the apartment. What Smith found was a deceased Cobain with a shotgun strung across his chest, a nauseating head wound, and a suicide note. As well, large concentration of heroin and some traces of diazepam were found in Cobain’s body.

It’s Official: Amy Winehouse Drank Herself To Death

After weeks of speculation, TMZ is reporting that a coroner’s report released today reveals that pop singer Amy Winehouse died from over-consumption of alcohol.

According to their article, Winehouse had a blood alcohol level 4x the legal limit at her time of death on July 14. This could be resulting from a buildup over a period of a few days, but it could also be the result of simply party (way) too hard.

Sinead O’Connor is not in the best of spirits lately, however, she would like her fans to know that, despite openly sharing thoughts of suicide, she doesn’t actually plan on killing herself. Songwriter Joseph Brooks kills himself in NYC

The genius behind “You Light Up My Life,” Joseph Brooks, has died of an apparent suicide in NYC. The award winning songwriter was currently on trial for rape. He was 73. Defense Lawyer claims Michael Jackson committed suicide
