MOVIE REVIEW: A Haunted House

Film: A Haunted House
Director: Michael Tiddes
Writer: Marlon Wayans, Rick Alvarez
Studio: IM Global Octane, Wayans Bros. Entertainment

There are few things harder to sit through than bad comedy. When a drama isn’t as heartbreaking as it should be, or a horror not as gut-wrenching as the trailer promises, people get upset, but when a comedy fails you can literally hear the disgust reverberate throughout the auditorium like an audible tidal wave of groans that roughly translates to “I just wasted $10 on this piece of crap?” Such was my experience with A Haunted House.

Parody films were once …

HOW BAD IS IT?! “Snow White And The Huntsman”

Head of the UTG film department and mastermind behind Reasonable Remakes, Justin Proper has brought us another new column. Ladies and gentleman, allow us to introduce you to: How Bad Is It?

Movies are the number one source of entertainment according to a statistic I just made up. Everyone loves going to the movies. It’s a standard date night, and has helped millions of teens awkwardly hold hands in the dark. Movies are a great escape from reality, and help people relieve the stress of their lives. Unfortunately every once in a while a movie gets released that ruins the

DAMMIT: Dr. Acula Put On Their Serious Face, Release New Song

Victory Records’ Dr. Acula have released the first song off their forthcoming album. Entitled “Nation,” the track finds the group’s vocalists (because Victory loves bands with two vocalists) switching lines about the state of the nation and how everyone needs to band together while doing their best to scream worse than one another. You can stream the track after the jump.

While I can appreciate an artist trying to take a more serious tone with their music, Dr. Acula could not have fallen more flat on their faces with this track. The reason they were signed, hell, the only reason …

MOVIE REVIEW: Men In Black 3

Film: Men In Black 3
Starring: Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones
Directed by: Barry Sonnenfeld

Sitting in the AMC Loews Boston Commons Monday night, I found it hard to believe a decade had past since we last followed agents J and K into battle against forces from outer space. There was an excitement in the theater, even if the film was 3D, that something reminiscent of the joy attached to the memory of those times might be found in the digital experience that lie ahead. An hour and forty-six minutes later we had our answer: No.

MOVIE REVIEW: Battleship

Film: Battleship
Director: Peter Berg

Movie studios tend not to be celebrated for their tact, vision, or thoughtful approach to moviemaking. At least, not the bigger ones. So when word came in last year that we would be treated to a big-screen version of a largely defunct Hasbro game (am I the only one who has neither played nor dwelled on Battleship for about 15 years?), the resounding wall of indifference was unsurprising. In an attempt to dress up their obvious designs on Transformers, Universal recruited Liam Neeson (stop me if you’ve heard this one: gruff father [figure], handy …

MOVIE REVIEW: Bad Teacher

“f there is one thing we are learning in Summer 2011, it is that Hollywood can turn anything into a bad idea. It used to be people dreaded sequels, now we dread superhero films (thanks Green Lantern!) and after this weekend, some may even be more cautious of raunchy comedy. “
