Roberto Orci Will Not Direct ‘Star Trek 3,’ Studio May Want Edgar Wright

Amidst all the franchises trying to get your attention over the last month it would be easy to understand if you forgot another Star Trek was also coming our way in the years ahead. Star Trek 3, which will likely have a different name when it hits theaters, is scheduled for release in 2016. There is only one problem: Deadline claims director Roberto Orci has just left the project only months before production was set to begin.

Orci was given Star Trek 3 after original director JJ Abrams landed this little indie project called Star Wars: Episode VII –

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Given Official Title

Through many internet rumors and speculation, the next installment in the monumental Star Wars film series has finally been given an official name. The next Star Wars film will be titled Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

An awakening indeed, as it has been nine years since the mixed enjoyment of the prequel films. Seemingly fitting as a title, it seems that the force will be awoken as the film’s possible plot follows the hunt for missing Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

Along with the official title, Disney unveiled that principle photography on the film has been completed, highlighting just how …

MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Space Station 76’ Is A Scattershot But Charming Throwback To Retro Sci-Fi

Film: Space Station 76
Starring: Patrick Wilson, Matt Bomer
Directed by: Jack Plotnick

Picture the old episodes of Star Trek where the Starship Enterprise members carried around communicators that looked like flip phones and had bulky flashy lights on them. That kind of fake-ness that made you laugh at how dated future technology looked is the best part about Space Station 76. Jack Plotnick (actor from Quentin Dupieux’s absurdist films Rubber and Wrong) makes his feature directorial debut in a film that is equal parts Boogie Nights and Spaceballs but without the dramatic gravity from the former and …

Firstly, here’s what Latino Review had to say about the recent plot reveal of Star Wars:

Godzilla-2

Legendary Sets ‘Godzilla 2′ Release Date

The return of Godzilla was one of the most satisfying adventures to hit the silver screen all year long. Today, just a few short weeks after confirming plans for a sequel at Comic-Con International, Legendary Pictures revealed the day Godzilla will return.

Godzilla 2–which I assume will be given a proper subtitle at some point in the future–is scheduled for release June 8, 2018. That is just under four years from this point, and I wonder if audiences will be as happy for the creature’s return then as they would be if, say, he returned in 2016.

Provincetown Film Fest Review: ‘Frank’

Film: Frank
Directed by: Lenny Abrahamson
Starring: Domnhall Gleeson, Michael Fassbender, Maggie Gyllenhaal

Frank was the one film that left me bewildered after viewing it at the Provincetown Film Festival. That’s not a terrible thing to say. If anything, it’s a compliment. Frank is a mysterious beast; it starts out as a sob story about a loner trying to gather inspiration for new music, then it turns into an episode of VH1’s Behind The Music, and then finally settles in as a short study of mental disabilities. At its best, Frank is a rousing musical comedy that soars above …

The Star Wars news train keeps rolling along.

With JJ Abrams currently in production for Episode VII, and the recent reveals that Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank would individually be tackling two of the rumored three spin-offs, we’ve now learned that one of the best directors currently in the business is set to write and direct Star Wars Episode VIII. Rian Johnson is probably best known for his 2012 sci-fi favorite, Looper, but if you slept on Brick and The Brothers Bloom, do yourself a favor and experience the vastly different worlds of both. Directing three …

Josh Trank Will Also Be Directing A ‘Star Wars’ Standalone Film

The Avengers-like Star Wars movie world continues to take shape as the franchise continues to snap up some of the hottest young directors (and actors!). After announcing that Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards would helm the first Star Wars  spinoff, slated for a 2016 release, it has now been announced that Josh Trank will be helming another.

Though the date of Trank’s installment hasn’t been confirmed, it seems likely that it will be nestled into 2018, snugly between new Episodes in ’17 and ’19. Trank’s Chronicle is still his only major motion picture to be released yet, but …

‘Star Wars’ Casting News: ‘Game of Thrones’ and ’12 Years a Slave’ Join The Galaxy

Well it seems that the galaxy far, far, away has landed some more incredibly promising performers. Gwendoline Christie, currently Brienne of Tarth on HBO’s Game of Thrones, has been cast as an undisclosed character. Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar winner for her role as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave, has joined the cast too.

Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, had this to say regarding the news: “I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII, it’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”

Christie and Nyong’o join the already star-studded …
