2013 best of music

Jacob Tender’s ‘Best Of 2013′ In Music

‘Tis the season to make the most difficult choices I have to make all year. Seriously, my life is easy enough to make that statement true. I hate making these lists, more-so this year than any year previous. Yet I’m obligated to do so. So here I am.

You see, in January, I told myself that it would be a good idea to listen to more music. What resulted in that was a fine list of albums that I liked, some that I loved, and some that surprised me. Come December, I had roughly 90 records in a tidy Google …

UTG EXCLUSIVE: Bradley Walden Is The New Singer For Emarosa

I can confirm tonight that Bradley Walden (former vocalist for Squid the Whale) is the new vocalist for Emarosa.

After following some leads and rumors, I believe I have enough sources to verify that the long vacant seat has been filled by Walden.

It is fact that in early 2012, Walden was asked to audition for the spot left open by former Emarosa vocalist Jonny Craig. He demoed a few songs, but never accepted the position. After another year of writing and touring with Squid the Whale, the crooner left the band for reasons unannounced. In his departure …

UTG EXCLUSIVE: Bradley Walden Not Vocalist for Emarosa

Today, one of my favorite bands split up. Squid the Whale and their former vocalist, Bradley Walden, went their separate ways.

In doing so, each party left a statement on the Internet for their fans. Here is Squid’s, here is Walden’s.

In the singer’s statement, posted on PropertyOfZack, he made a quick-witted allusion to an offer made to him by Emarosa last year.

“The past should stay dead, I’m ready to embrace whatever the future brings.”

“The Past Should Stay Dead” is the title of a popular song from Emarosa’s Relativity.

This, of course, led many …

Bradley Walden Issues Statement On Departure From Squid The Whale

Our friends over at Property Of Zack had the opportunity to reach out directly to Bradley Walden, now ex vocalist of Squid The Whale, to get a statement as to why he decided to part ways with the band. He responded to them, and you can read what he had to say by taking a look below the jump.

So far the band hasn’t made any further statements on the subject, but we hope to hear more about future tour plans, as well as future plans with writing new music. We will be sure to update you with …

Bradley Walden Departs From Squid The Whale

We here at UTG are sad to inform that Squid The Whale have decided to continue on as a band without their longtime vocalist, Bradley Walden. The Michigan-based “rock & soul” group went public with the decision about 45 minutes ago in the form of a Facebook status, and aside from saying “there needed to be a change within the group and letting him go is more than a positive one,” there has been no direct reason given for why this line-up change has been made.

Although the band has made it clear that they plan to stay together …

You Me And Everyone We Know 2013

Stream: You, Me, and Everyone We Know – “Better Men”

YMAEWK are streaming a brand new track via our good friends at AbsolutePunk. The track, “Better Men,” is off of the band’s latest installment, I Wish More People Gave A Shit. I Wish is the follow-up to the 2012 comeback EP, A Great Big Hole. If this track is any indication as to what we are to expect with the release, then giving a shit really won’t be that hard. Check out YMAEWK on tour this summer with Squid The Whale and The Orphan, The Poet. The record is due out May 7. If you give a …

Ben Liebsch

You, Me, And Everyone We Know Announce Headlining Tour

You, Me, And Everyone We Know consists primarily of songwriter Ben Liebsch. Ben will be doing a solo tour as You, Me, And Everyone We Know, with notable opening acts The Orphan, The Poet and Squid the Whale. Squid the Whale are personal favorites of us here at Under the Gun Review; you may recall them doing an acoustic session with us.

Perhaps Ben will appear during Squid’s set, too; they did a song together that you can see a live performance of here. The tour takes place in May and June, crossing most of the …

ROBBINS CROSSING SESSIONS: Episode 1 – Squid The Whale

When I’m not typing away in my email client of choice, the UTG staff page, or the site itself, I’m probably in class. I’m less than a month out from my Associates degree in Business with a certificate in Music Industry Management. This being the case, I find that my life online bleeds into my school work – and vice versa – quite often.

In one of my classes, a group of fellow Hocking College students and myself took on a project we’ve dubbed The Robbins Crossing Sessions. This is a 5 part web series that is recorded in …

WATCH: Squid The Whale Performs “The German Affair” with Ben Liebsch

Last year, Squid The Whale released their single, “The German Affair”. Featured on said track was none other than Ben Liebsch of You, Me & Everyone We Know. Now, well into the new year, you can finally watch Liebsch performing the song live with the band.

The video was shot on March 23 at the Crocodile Rock in Allentown, Pennsylvania. It seems as though this collaboration should have happened live a long time ago. Watch Squid The Whale and Liebsch performing “The German Affair” below. …

REVIEW: Squid The Whale – Four More

Artist: Squid The Whale
Album: Four More EP
Genre: Rock & Soul
Label: Unsigned

Squid The Whale. What can possibly be said about the group that their music hasn’t already? You’d have to be living under a rock not to already know about vocalist Bradley Walden and his skilled gang of eccentric virtuoso rock and rollers. Squid The Whale is energetic, gritty and deep. Their unique blend of self-proclaimed “Rock & Soul” is quickly turning heads and snapping necks, which may be why they were selected as UTG’s #1 artist to watch in 2013.…
