UTG PREMIERE: anna sage. – “The Life and Lies of Jimmy Fries”

The weekend is here, and as far as we are concerned there is no better way to end the work week than with a new soundtrack that can keep you entertained until Monday shows its ugly face once more.

Today, it gives us great pleasure to partner with our friends at Near Mint Records for the world premiere of “The Life And Lies Of Jimmy Fries” by anna sage. The track is the first to be released off Fear Mint Vol. 1, an upcoming split the band is releasing through the label with fellow fast-rising buzz band Brick Top. …

Bonfire

UTG VIDEO PREMIERE: Bonfire – “Before You Left”

Bonfire are a four piece post hardcore outfit based out of Saskatoon, Canada. They just released a short split with fellow Canadian singer/songwriter New Born. Bonfire’s contribution is the emotion-inducing single “Before You Left.” We are happy to have teamed up with the band to premiere the music video for this song. You can check it out below the jump.

“Before You Left” isn’t your typical music video, as it’s a conglomerate of year’s worth of home videos stitched together. It provides a hint of nostalgia for anyone who is familiar with the shaky, often pixelated, home videos from …

LISTEN: The Felix Culpa – “Karma City”

It has been a long wait for new tunes from the much loved and much missed The Felix Culpa. But, today, fans are able to finally surround themselves in new sounds from the band in the form of new song “Karma City.”

“Karma City” is a catalyst of a track, bringing some of the dirtiest tones the band has used to date. Covered with a sludgy bass, heavy guitars, tight grooves, and the perfect balance between pop and drone vocals, “Karma City” is a welcomed return for the band.

The track comes from an upcoming split with Foreign Tongues via …

Citizen’s Mat Kerekes Announces Hardcore Project; Releases Split With Spitback

Mat Kerekes of Citizen had recently taken to the twittersphere to announce his latest creative outlet: a hardcore band by the name of Power Wrench who have released a split EP with Michigan’s Spitback.

Any fans of Kerekes’ more popular band would have to keep searching if they’re looking for anything that bears resemblance to Citizen in sound, lyrics, and even mood; this new release is chock full of fast, no-nonsense hardcore that doesn’t spare any time in getting to the oh-so-clearly-stated point.

Follow the jump to listen to the EP, which is currently available on a ‘Pay What You …

REQUIRED LISTENING: Ovlov – “The Great Crocodile”

Back in April, we got word that CT-based band Ovlov and Philly crew Little Big League were putting out a split 7″ together on Tiny Engines. It comes out in August, but today both bands shared songs off the split over at Stereogum because, let’s be honest, there’s no way our anticipation until then wouldn’t drive us insane.

Ovlov’s track, titled “The Great Crocodile,” is a play on their last album’s closer, “The Great Alligator.” It’s a sprawling beast clocking in around six minutes, which means we get time for thick solos, noisy feedback, and some emotional lyrics that will …

Stream The New Annabel/Dowsing Split From Count Your Lucky Stars

Labelmates Annabel and Dowsing have teamed for a four-song 7″ out on split-happy emo label Count Your Lucky Stars. It’s actually a bit of a surprise these two hadn’t already found their way onto the same 2–or 4–way split already. Released on May 27, the split is available for streaming on Brooklyn Vegan.

The Annabel half is especially sweet, with the under-heralded and more melodious group pairing “Always” with a feistier, punk-paced offering in “Forever.” The Dowsing songs bear titles that are so very, very Dowsing – “World’s Finest Chocolate (How Ya Doin’ Today)” and “Fistful of Hot Wheels.” …

Ghost Stories/Armslength Split

Ghost Stories And Armslength Release New Split

Ohio based bands Ghost Stories and Armslength have released their new split for a name your price value on Bandcamp.

Both being indie based bands from the Ohio area, Ghost Stories and Armslength have joined together in tours, friendships, and now music. While they are both lesser known bands, I hope that with the release of this new split they can begin to be on everyone’s radars as they deserve to be.

Ghost Stories recently went through a singer change, though this alteration in line-up has had no effect on their ability to create vibrant songs. Channeling my favorite aspects …

Rest In Peace: G-Unit (2002-2014)

It’s the end of an era for one of modern hip-hop’s most popular rap collectives.

Speaking in a new interview with Power99′s Cosmic Kev at the end of last week, rapper and Vitamin Water investor 50 Cent broke the news that G-Unit has been ‘dismantled.’ He claims despite the numerous rumors that have popped up over the years there are absolutely no plans for a reunion at this time, and even if the possibility presented itself he has no desire to ever enter a new contract with either Lloyd Banks or Tony Yayo.

This is not exactly game …
