Stream Two Versions of “Wanted To Be Loved,” A Collab By Daniel Ahearn and Rashida Jones

If you haven’t heard of Daniel Ahearn, fix that, quickly. The man makes beautiful music, plain and simple. A lot more of you probably know who Rashida Jones is (Parks And Recreation, The Office). Not only is she beautiful and talented as an actress, she’s got a helluva voice, too. She’s provided backing vocals for Maroon 5, sang in songs for various films, and contributed to a 2Pac tribute album that was released in 2000 (her sister, Kidada, was engaged to Shakur at the time of his death in ’96.)

Most recently, Ahearn and Jones have …

Retro Promenade’s ‘Carpenter’ Mix Honors The Master Of Horror With Synth Success

As much as I adore John Carpenter‘s Lost Themes album that was released earlier this year, I craved more. I’ve been in a huge ‘eerie synth’ mood for awhile now, having seen films such as The Guest and It Follows, and listening to lots of Perturbator.

If you’re anything like me, a new mixtape that just hit the net this week will satiate your ’80s synth-loving appetite. Retro Promenade had the good sense to gather 20 talented artists to contribute to a killer collection of Carpenter-inspired tracks that each provide the perfect soundtrack for hiding in closets, roaming …

Coldplay Release New Single “Miracles”

Everyone’s favorite adult contemporary radio act Coldplay have released a new track called “Miracles.” The song is taken from the soundtrack to the film Unbroken, which is due out in stores December 15 via Atlantic Records.

“Miracles” sounds like your typical Coldplay song – ringing acoustic guitars, piano, a slightly uplifting snap track to keep the beat, and Chris Martin’s easily distinguishable voice take control of the fold here. If you like Coldplay, you’ll be happy with this one.

Martin also recently confirmed that the band is working on a new record, which may or may not be the …

Fat Mike (NOFX) To Debut New Punk Musical, ‘Home Street Home’

Legendary punk frontman Fat Mike, of NOFX, is embarking on a rather ambitious endeavor next year: bringing punk rock to the stage. This will be done in the form of a musical called Home Street Home, with a soundtrack coming out on February 10 via Fat Wreck Chords. All this will be followed by a full-stage musical.

Apparently, Fat Mike has been working on this for years with Tony Award-winning producer Jeff Marx (Avenue Q) and Soma Snakeoil. Here is what Fat Mike told Rolling Stone about the collaboration:

“Ever since I saw Rocky Horror

CHVRCHES Stream ‘Hunger Games’ Contribution “Dead Air”

There was a time not too long ago when Lorde made headlines for sharing one of her contributions to the upcoming film, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Her song was great and everything fans had hoped the young singer would deliver, but she is not the only headline grabbing talent to have a new song featured on the highly-anticipated film’s soundtrack.

This morning, Scottish synth pop trio CHVRCHES shared a stream of a new song titled “Dead Air.” The song, which is also set to appear in Mockingjay Part 1, is everything you would expect from the …

John Nolan Releases Music Video For “Here Comes The Wolf” from ‘Bridge And Tunnel’

A couple weeks back, John Nolan, guitarist of Taking Back Sunday, released his new song that he contributed to the soundtrack for the 2014 independent film Bridge and Tunnel, titled “Here Comes The Wolf”.

Today, the official music video for the song premiered on AltPress. The video shows Nolan sporting clown makeup while performing with a backing band, filmed at Long Island’s own Amityville Music Hall. The band members each have unique masks, playing an upright bass and violin. Other scenes depict Nolan at an amusement park and smearing black makeup all over himself. The song …

BBC Radio 1 Is Rescoring ‘Drive’ With Chvrches, Jon Hopkins, The 1975, SBTRKT, More

Remember how cool the soundtrack for Drive was? It was almost as cool as Driver’s jacket, all ’80s-chic electric goodness, and it was one of the biggest reasons audiences fell in love with the film. That CD is still in my car as I type this. Now, BBC Radio is giving something that was already great another go.

Radio 1 Rescores: Drive – Curated By Zane Lowe will feature music from The 1975, Baauer, BANKS, Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, Chvrches, Eric Prydz, Foals, John Hopkins, Laura Mvula, The Neighborhood, SBTRKT, and ZZC. All but one song is brand new. …

Lorde Streams New Single “Yellow Flicker Beat”

Lorde has delivered on the promise that she would share her contribution to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 this week, and yes, it’s pretty much perfect.

“Yellow Flicker Beat” is a song drenched in romance and vengeance, with Lorde riding larger than life production to dizzying heights and back again. “I’m a princess cut from marble,” she sings in the opening lines, “smoother than a storm / And the scars that mark my body / they’re silver and gold.” It’s not exactly a great departure from the material that made Pure Heroine one of the biggest releases of …

Listen To Four New Songs Off Trent Reznor And Atticus Ross’ ‘Gone Girl’ Soundtrack

The trio of David Fincher, Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross is a collaborative group that has had a fair amount of success already this decade – they netted the Oscar for Best Original Score for 2010’s The Social Network. Not much has changed with their third time working together, as all three are primed for even more accolades. Reznor and Ross have soundtracked Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s hit novel Gone Girl, and the pair have released four new songs from that score.

We’ve been treated to “The Way He Looks At Me,” “Sugar Storm,” “Background Noise,” …

Stream Paul McCartney’s “Hope For The Future” From ‘Destiny’

Bungie’s most recent title, Destiny, has been reported to officially be the “most pre-ordered video game IP in history.” That’s an incredibly impressive feat for the Halo series developers. These numbers probably aren’t due to the fact that Sir Paul McCartney scored the game but if you’ve been playing the shooter as much as myself and some other UTG staffers have been for the past couple of days, then you’ve likely noticed the brilliant music that accompanies the equally gorgeous visuals.

“Hope For The Future” serves as the game’s theme song. It’s a sprawling, 4-minute epic with signature McCartney …

We Want The ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Soundtrack On Cassette, Do You?

A week has passed since Marvel‘s Guardians Of The Galaxy debuted in theaters, and in that time the film has already grossed well over $100 million. That kind of revenue tells us that a slew of Guardians inspired merchandise is going to be hitting stores in the months ahead, and we’ve collectively settled on the one must-own item would like to see exist.

If you have seen Guardians Of The Galaxy then you will no doubt recall that Star-Lord’s Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is a mixtape contained on this outdated piece of technology known as a cassette. That format, …

Stream the ‘Wish I Was Here’ Soundtrack

On July 18, Zach Braff’s followup to his directorial debut Garden State hits screens. The film, titled Wish I Was Here, deals with parent struggles, modern day woes, and, of course, a handful of great tunes. In a way, this film has been more hyped up for its soundtrack than for its plot, most of which has to do with why people love Garden State, too. Today the new soundtrack can be streamed in full along with Braff’s commentary.

We’ve already heard Bon Iver’s return-to-studio hit and the collaboration between Cat Power and Coldplay, but now we get …
