Charli XCX Boom Clap

Charli XCX Shares “Boom Clap” Off Newly Revealed ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ Soundtrack

In a year dominated by young performers blurring the lines between indie and pop more than ever, Charli XCX and her quality 2013 offering True Romance (which turns 1 in three days) were overshadowed by powerhouses like Lorde, Haim, and Icona Pop.

Charli continues on undaunted, though, staying in the news for all the right reasons – a fun, punchy  new single; a couple of covers; and a spot on Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.” Now she’s hopping on the trend of YA fiction-turned-blockbusters loading up soundtracks with hip artists. It’s not as cool as covering “I Want …

STREAM: Kendrick Lamar And Tame Impala’s “Backwards”

US hip-hop superstar Kendrick Lamar and Grammy award nominated Australian psychedelic-rock outfit Tame Impala have collaborated to produce “Backwards,” a re-imagining of Tame Impala’s 2012 hit “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.” The track, which is taken from the film adaptation of Divergent, the highly-anticipated soundtrack to the first installation of Veronica Roth’s book trilogy, is available to stream after the jump.

A rather unorthodox pairing, “Backwards” features a series of passionate verses from Lamar juxtaposed against a gloriously washed out chorus from Tame Impala, to create a refreshing, unique and powerful listening experience.

“Backwards” is one of series …

Janelle Monae

Listen To Janelle Monáe’s New Song For ‘Rio 2′

A lot goes into making animated movies memorable. From the music to the technology used to make curly hair realistic; everything is meticulously planned. Some of the catchiest songs have come from movies, a recent one that comes to mind would be “Let It Go” from Frozen. While I don’t think we have an Oscar winning song on our hands right now, the new single from the upcoming Rio sequel might make you want to get up and dance.

Janelle Monáe is easily one of our favorite artists right now, and she sang a song that will be on …

Pia Mia

STREAM: Pia Mia – “Fight For You” Feat. Chance The Rapper

Pia Mia is a young, yet talented pop singer. If you didn’t know who she was before, you certainly will learn soon. She and Chance The Rapper collaborated on a brand new song for the Divergent‘s soundtrack, titled “Fight For You.” We are quickly approaching the release date of that album, and a couple of songs have been released from it to date. As of yesterday, Pia Mia’s contribution is the latest to hit the airwaves. You can listen to the track below the jump.

This artist has a great voice, and she has no problem showing it off …

Tame Impala and Kendrick Lamar Rework “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” for Soundtrack

Yes, you read that correctly. Australian psychedelic rockers Tame Impala and hip hop’s biggest new kid Kendrick Lamar are teaming up to rework Lonerism single “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.”

They’re calling the new version “Backwards” and, according to Billboard, Lamar will be taking on the vocal part as Tame Impala back him up. The song is part of the soundtrack for the new science fiction film Divergent and includes songs by other big names like M83, Skrillex and Ellie Goulding (who somehow got away with four songs on the soundtrack). The soundtrack will be released early next month.…

Let It Go: Why Disney’s ‘Frozen’ Just Delivered One Of The Year’s Best Songs

The catchiest song released in the last month cannot be found at radio, at least not in its proper form, and there is almost zero chance you’ve seen it featured on your favorite blog, but I’m willing to bet nearly any child who visited a cineplex in the last week could identify it within a few notes. That’s right, it’s a song that was originally written to cater to children, but having spent the last week doing everything imaginable to shake its feel-good inspirational vibes, I am now convinced there is no escaping its anthemic power.

“Let It Go” is …

Listen to Lorde’s Cover of Tears For Fears Classic “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”

What can be said about Lorde that hasn’t been said at length in the past 6 months? The teenaged superstar from down under has shown again and again the value in her work and image. In just a year, she has gone from hometown genius to worldwide phenomenon and she’s only just beginning.

With as popular as her youthful anthems are with today’s youngsters, it’s only natural that she play a part on the soundtrack to the biggest young adult film of the year, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, appearing on silver screens November 22, 2013.

Her contribution to …

Stream the Soundtrack for ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’

If anyone needed a little something extra to get yourself going on this Monday morning, well, you’re in luck as NPR has made the entire Inside Llewyn Davis soundtrack available for streaming. The excellent new film from the Coen Brothers explores the 1960s New York underground folk scene. I reviewed the film for UTG last week, while it arrives in theaters on December 20.

The soundtrack sees Oscar Isaac, the star of the film, collaborating with the likes of Marcus Mumford and producer T-Bone Burnett, who found similar success on the soundtracks for O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Crazy

Taylor Swift Debuts “Sweeter Than Fiction”

The sound of the 1980s is alive and well, my friends. First came Betty Who, then Gaga’s new single, and now Ms. Taylor Swift tosses her hat into the throwback ring with “Sweeter Than Fiction.”

The first new song to surface from Swift in over a year, “Sweeter Than Fiction” offers listeners a chance to hear what Taylor Swift’s career may have sounded like if she rose to fame around 1986. Slick, synth-heavy production guides fans through a story told from the perspective of someone who has supported an artist since before anyone else seemed to care. The …

Scene & Heard: ‘Man of Steel’

Writing about Man of Steel now, even in the wake of that Comic-Con announcement, feels almost belated. Until the revelation that Superman would be teaming up with his comic book cohort Batman for the sequel, it seemed that buzz had died down on the film (and unsurprisingly so, as it turned out to be a very ordinary experience). I’ve seen more discussion of Man of Steel than of any recent superhero movie, most of it stemming from the film’s decision to root a hero traditionally associated with joy and hope and optimism in a kind of gloomy, brooding, …

CBGB Movie

Details Released On Upcoming ‘CBGB’ Soundtrack

The upcoming CBGB biopic is receiving a lot of attention from the music world, and for a good reason: If it weren’t for the famous NYC venue’s existence, punk music and alternative music as we know it wouldn’t be in the state that it is in. The film is centered around Hilly Kristal, the club owner portrayed by Alan Rickman who helped start it all back in the 70s back when the venue was open for bluegrass and country only and later expanded to include rock & roll, punk, and hardcore.

Details on the motion picture’s soundtrack have hit the …
