STREAM: Bass Drum of Death – “Crawling After You”

Hailing from Mississippi, Bass Drum of Death are a group of indie lo-fi rockers who are ready to break through in 2013. My Old Kentucky Blog released another new song entitled, “Crawling After You,” from their upcoming new self-titled album.

When you blend together an, “I don’t care” punk-rock attitude with catchy melodies, you get a group of musicians who deliver something truly special. Don’t be fooled by their lo-fi appearance, these guys can bring the noise. They were even the backing band for Odd Future’s, Mellowhype, back in 2011 on Fuel TV’s, The Daily Habit.

The Dangerous Summer

The Dangerous Summer Release New Non-Album Track

After releasing two incredible full length albums in the past, Dangerous Summer fans and critics are waiting in anticipation for the release of their new album. AbsolutePunk reports that the band began teasing the album by releasing an instrumental non-album track, entitled “Hemingway,” via their SoundCloud page.

The instrumental track contains a vocal sample during its intro, while bass, guitar, and a wall of spacey reverb guitar build on top of each other. There has yet to be an explanation as to what exactly this track is. Was it a throw away idea? Is this recording from the same sessions …

EP STREAM: MMX – ‘Child’

Oxford indie rockers, MMX, are currently streaming their EP, Child, in its entirety on their Soundcloud page. You can go listen to it there or after the jump, here on UTG.

Each of the four tracks on Child are massive in scope with ethereal layers, dramatic vocal melodies, and infectious rhythms possibly borrowing some inspirations from bands like Coldplay, Snow Patrol, and M83, but adding a beautiful twist that’s all their own. It’s already on our premeditated “best of” list of this year’s EP efforts and it’ll be hard to beat.

Two Chapels

STREAM: Two Chapels – “Forgotten”

New York City electronic duo, Two Chapels, are currently streaming their second single, “Forgotten,” as they gear up to release their debut EP this Summer.

For fans of artists such as Purity Ring and Belle Mare, Two Chapels idealistically combine Jenn Grossman’s dark, and somewhat melancholy, vocal approach with high-end electro pop production, both of which are displayed wonderfully in “Forgotten.” With eerie synths, a bouncy trip-hop beat and industrial/gothic-like vocals, “Forgotten” has a chilled out atmosphere and catchy hooks, leaving us intrigued by the thought of what Two Chapels has in store for us with their …

In the wake of Record Store Day, many of the exclusive tracks that were released are now starting to surface here on the interweb. The previously unreleased, “Slow Six,” by Surfer Blood, just happens to be one of those tunes.

The track is the featured b-side on their 7″ Record Store Day release, which also includes their lead single, “Demon Dance,” from their upcoming album, Pythons. “Slow Six” is a waltz based record done right. It includes all of the heavy feedback, reverb, and guitar bends that give Surfer Blood their signature sunny, indie-pop sound.

We haven’t heard much from Minus The Bear since their 2012 release, Infinity Overhead. Today, Minus The Bear unleashed their new song, “Walk On Air,” from the soundtrack to the highly anticipated video game, Injustice: Gods Among Us.

If their last album wasn’t necessarily your thing, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear shades of classic Minus The Bear on this track. It could easily be an album cut from their 2007 release, Planet of Ice, or even their debut album, Highly Refined Pirates.  We’ll let you be the judge.
