REVIEW: LAXX – ‘Step Two’

Artist: LAXX
Album: Step Two
Label: Never Say Die Records
Genre: Bass music

Naysayers would lead the uneducated electronic music fan to believe it’s all downhill from here as repetitive festival house tracks among others plague the scene and producers leave behind their strengths to capitalize on trends, but it’s simply not the case. Rather, right now is a truly exciting time for the scene as there is a plethora of producers experimenting with new sounds and expanding their visibility daily, one of those being Oxford-based musician LAXX. Never looking to stay within any sort of comfort zone, he …

INTERVIEW: HELENA Talks “Levity,” Working With Ultra Records and More

“If I’m not fist-pumping and jumping around in the studio when it drops then I know it’s not going to transpose well into a festival set. “Levity” was about combining classic house with the more energetic sounds of now.”

HELENA has blessed the electro house community with multiple massive singles in recent months, but “Levity,” her brand new Ultra Records-backed collaboration with esteemed vocalist Shawnee Taylor, just might be the one that launches the Australian producer to her inevitable position as an instantly recognizable staple of electronic music.

After hearing the exciting new material, UTG had the chance to talk …

STREAM: Bass Drum of Death – “Crawling After You”

Hailing from Mississippi, Bass Drum of Death are a group of indie lo-fi rockers who are ready to break through in 2013. My Old Kentucky Blog released another new song entitled, “Crawling After You,” from their upcoming new self-titled album.

When you blend together an, “I don’t care” punk-rock attitude with catchy melodies, you get a group of musicians who deliver something truly special. Don’t be fooled by their lo-fi appearance, these guys can bring the noise. They were even the backing band for Odd Future’s, Mellowhype, back in 2011 on Fuel TV’s, The Daily Habit.…
