Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman Died From Alcohol Related Cirrhosis; Band Planning Celebration To Honor Memory

Slayer have revealed that the cause of death for founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman was alcohol related cirrhosis. Read statements from every group member as well as details for when they will be honoring his memory.

Hanneman passed away on May 2 at the age of 49.

“While the details are being worked out now, Slayer wants its fans to know that there will be a celebration of Jeff Hanneman‘s life sometime later this month, along with Jeff‘s family and friends, the public will be invited to attend. More information will be posted here soon.

Jeff Hanneman Tribute: His Five Best Solo Writing Credits For Slayer

Twenty-two years and eleven studio albums–that’s Jeff Hanneman’s body of work with the almighty Slayer. In that massive body of work, there actually aren’t all that many songs in which Hanneman gets the sole writing credits (being that Slayer are quite good at collaborating and all). The ones in which Hanneman does get the sole writing credits for, however, are pretty excellent. In honor of his recent and unfortunate passing, I’m here to count down my five favorite Hanneman-only Slayer tunes from over the years. You can stream them after the jump.

REST IN PEACE: Slayer’s Jeff Hanneman

The metal world is shocked to learn that Slayer founding member Jeff Hanneman passed away at 11am this morning. Hanneman was located in an area hospital when his liver failed completely. Under The Gun has obtained a statement from the band and can be seen below.

Rest in peace, Jeff. You will be missed dearly by everyone.

Drummer Dave Lombardo Removed From Slayer’s Australian Tour

This is straight up crazy town.

It appears that thrash metal icons Slayer have forced longtime drummer Dave Lombardo out of the band, at least for the remainder of their Australian tour.

“I want to personally apologize to all of our fans in Australia who have bought tickets for the tour expecting to see me in my usual place on the drums,” began a statement from Lombardo on his Facebook page. It’s a lengthy post, but the long and the short of Lombardo’s dismissal appears to boil down to a singular issue: money.

Boise Radio Station Leaks Mayhem Festival Lineup

A radio station in Boise, Idaho has won the hearts of metalheads everywhere by leaking the majority of the Mayhem Festival 2012 lineup.

The station, 100.3 The X, announced the initial lineup for the traveling Summer festival earlier today via their official Facebook. The lineup, as posted by the station, is as follows:

Sum 41 frontman in hospital

What is it about this week that keeps putting vocalists in the hospital?! First, Tom Araya of Slayer was hospitalized, and now, Sum 41‘s frontman, Deryck Whibley, has also found himself in a hospital bed. The following statement was posted on the band’s Facebook page:

Slayer frontman hospitalized

Slayer‘s frontman, Tom Araya, was recently hospitalized, forcing the band to cancel their appearance at the Soundwave Festival in Australia. However, an update on Slayerized reported: “According to “Soundwave Festival” promoter AJ Maddah Tom “will be OK” for the next “Soundwave” show in Melbourne on Friday, March 4th.”

Metallica announced for Sonisphere Festival
