After last week’s dip, this weekend saw a slight uptake in total studio revenue. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs dethroned Prisoners with total studio estimates nearing 35 million in ticket sales. The animated film is the first to come since Dreamworks’ Planes flew into theaters back in early August, and is performing better than the edgier films which debuted this weekend. Joesph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut in Don Jon is currently running neck and neck against Baggage Claim, with estimated gross profits for both films coming out around nine million. Prisoners emerged as the highest grossing film this past weekend, with over 20 million dollars made in gross profits. Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal’s latest drama made over seven million on its opening day, leading into the success that followed. Insidious: Chapter 2 fell behind after doing so well this past weekend, with its sales coming out to be half of what they were. Battle Of The Year made a lackluster performance in its debut weekend, with a measly five million made. To put this in perspective, the last dance flick to pull in numbers south of ten million …
The competition didn’t even come close to Insidious: Chapter 2 this past weekend. Over the course of three days, the James Wan produced blockbuster horror flick has raked in over 40 million off of domestic earnings alone, making it three times more successful than the original, which had a 13 million dollar reception on its opening weekend in 2011. Far behind it came The Family, which pulled in a modest 14 million. On the other hand, Riddick, last weekend’s top film, took a 63% dip from its previous earnings by only earning 7 million this week.

Nashville rock outfit Kings Of Leon have released the stream of their new single “Supersoaker” and is playing here on UTGR!
This song will come off of Kings of Leon’s sixth studio album, entitled Mechanical Bull, and is slated for release on September 24, 2013. This marks the first official release since their 2010 album, Come Around Sundown.

As our friends at Property of Zack have noted, Hot Water Music‘s Chuck Ragan will be hitting the road this September to tour solo. The folk punk singer will be stopping through Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and bookending the short tour with both Chicago’s Riot Fest and Colorado’s Riot Fest.

Rise Against revealed today that they will be putting out a new album, called Long Forgotten Songs: B-Sides & Covers 2000-2013, in September. This release will hit shelves on September 10 through Interscope Records.

Nine Inch Nails are back today with the seizure-inducing video for their single “Came Back Haunted,” directed by famed eccentric, David Lynch (Eraserhead, Mulholland Dr.).
