ALBUM STREAM: Empire of the Sun – ‘Ice on the Dune’

You may have seen advertisements all over the web promoting the new album, Ice on the Dune, by Empire of the Sun. You may have just glossed over it, or even given into temptation by clicking the ad just to see what all of the fuss was about. If you did, you would have heard their unbelievable radio-friendly single, “Alive.” If this track left you wanting more, have no fear.

Rolling Stone interviewed Empire of the Sun, and is premiering their new album, Ice on the Dune, ahead of its June 18 release date. When asked about the …

Billie Joe Armstrong Talks Substance Abuse, Recovery In Rolling Stone Interview

Green Day front man and songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong recently sat down with David Fricke of Rolling Stone Magazine to dish about his substance abuse and subsequent recovery.

It’s a fairly incredible story, if only for the fact that there really wasn’t any public indications of Armstrong’s issues prior to his outburst at back in September at the iheartradio Festival in Las Vegas. But Armstrong delves pretty deep into some of the more harrowing behind the scenes moments.

MUSIC VIDEO: Killswitch Engage – “In Due Time”

Everyone knows that under the flinty, brooding exterior of a metalhead lies a friendly, nougaty center. Case in point, the music video for “In Due Time”. The visuals for the new single from from rough-hewn brutes Killswitch Engage sees the band just being their beardy selves.

Does that mean a lot of lavish shots of Killswitch riffing, screaming, and generally thrashing about? You bet your ass it does. But the clip also mixes in footage from the “filming of” portion of the shoot, showcasing the band and friends having a grand old time together. Like, did you know that the …

STREAM: RDGLDGRN – “I Love Lamp”

Washington DC based genre-benders RDGLDGRN have just put out another taste of their debut EP RDGLDGRN, “I Love Lamp”, for your listening pleasure.

Yes, the title is an Anchroman reference. But the song is no joke. A more alt-rocking cut than their previous release from RDGLDGRN “Million Fans”, “I Love Lamp” has “crossover” all over it. Don’t be shocked if it makes it on to most of your friends’ summer playlists. But like “Million Fans”, this song also has Dave Grohl beating the skins.

I don’t know how Grohl does it. One minute he’s plugging his Sound City

ALBUM STREAM: Tegan & Sara – ‘Heartthrob’

Tegan and Sara‘s seventh studio album, Heartthrob, is now streaming in its entirety at RollingStone.com.

RollingStone.com is calling this new album “undeniably dance-y synth-pop” with “deep bass and gigantic, enveloping hooks quite removed from the guitar-based music they made their name with.”

On the topic of the genre shift, Tegan told Rolling Stone last month, “We did have to make a conscious effort to make our record sonically more smooth and pleasing. We didn’t want to take a small step. We wanted to take a big step.”

Stream the entire album on RollingStone.com, pick up Heartthrob when …

TeraMelos

DOWNLOAD: Tera Melos – “Tropic Lane”

Tera Melos have been working on a new record for some time. I would even guess that the album’s been finished for a while since guitarist and vocalist Nick Reinhardt had the time to come out with a solo album for Christmas. Today, they had a song, “Tropic Lane” premier on Rolling Stone from their upcoming album. The album, X’d Out, comes out on April 16, and is suddenly on my radar as one of the most anticipated releases of the year (I like Tera Melos, and I’m not ashamed). Nick has gotten better at singing over …

Scott Weiland

Scott Weiland “Sorting Through” Velvet Revolver Reunion

Scott Weiland was the reason Stone Temple Pilots broke up, but then rejoined them. Turmoil with him and the reason of Velvet Revolver appears to have been the reason behind their demise. They did a one-off reunion earlier this year, followed by Scott saying he was set to rejoin VR and then Slash denying it several days later.

Weiland told Rolling Stone, ”I am completely open to [a Velvet Revolver reunion] and I know there are other guys in the band that are completely open to it. There have been some things that have stood in the way

MUSIC VIDEO: The Weeknd – “Rolling Stone”

Canadian talent The Weeknd is prepping the release of his forthcoming label debut, and this morning he continues to roll out the promotion plan with a brand new music video. Appearing first on the Thursday mixtape, “Rolling Stone” is a bare bones croonfest about love and, well, being a rolling stone. The visuals are pretty bare bones, but it does serve as the first promotional effort from The Weeknd to actually feature the singer’s face. You can view the video for “Rolling Stone” after the jump.

The Weeknd’s first three mixtapes are being compiled, picked through, repackaged, and re-released this …

NOFX Release Brand New Song

Popular punk act NOFX have released a brand new song titled “This Machine Is 4″, premiering now over at Rolling Stone. The new song comes off of the band’s upcoming album Self Entitled due out on September 11.

In other NOFX news, the band is currently coming under some heavy criticism from the Canadian Immigration Report, who wish to ban the group from entering the country. The controversy is over the band’s track “Kill All The White Men”, which has obviously offended the nation. To the country’s dismay, the band will be appearing at the Toronto date at this …

Less than a week before the highly anticipated release of Circa Survive’s self-produced & self-released fourth studio album Violent Waves, the band has partnered up with Rolling Stone to stream the entire album. You can head right over here to stream the album in its entirety.

Tom.Morello

Tom Morello Not a Fan of Paul Ryan

Rage Against The Machine guitarist, Tom Morello, lambasted Republican Vice Presidential nominee, Paul Ryan, in an Op-Ed for Rolling Stone. Morello, considered by many as one of the greatest guitarists of his generation, is highly outspoken and minces no words in expressing his confusion and disdain of Ryan. The de facto House of Representatives leader has expressed that Rage Against The Machine is his favorite band.

Morello, in one of the better quotes one will ever read, took Ryan to task. Take the jump to read an excerpt.
