REVIEW: Spoken – Illusion

Artist: Spoken
Album: Illusion
Label: E1 Music
Genre: Alt-Rock

Contrary to popular belief, Spoken are still alive and well. The hard rock band may have allowed a good 5+ years to pass before releasing their seventh album, Illusion. One of the first things that stood out to me when first spinning the album was the band’s strong resemblance to Red, and upon a little digging and searching, I came to find that Jasen Rauch, Red’s main songwriter, produced Illusion. Somewhere between the muck and mire that is radio hard rock lies Spoken’s sound: fast hard down-tuned riffs, screams, …

MUSIC VIDEO: Taylor Swift – “I Knew You Were Trouble”

Taylor Swift is back in the UTG headlines this morning with the release of her official video for the latest Red single, “I Knew You Were Trouble.” The dubstep-loving tune is already everywhere pop music can go, but one look at the ultra-sleek visuals for this clip and it’s clear Swift has plans to make even more of the music world hers. Where “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” kept things light and fun, “I Knew You Were Trouble” chooses the more dramatic route. Multiple narrations, stronger visuals, and an overall movie-like feel. You can view the video after …

STREAM: Ne-Yo Ft. Fabolous and Diddy – “Should Be You”

Grammy Award-winning R&B artist Ne-Yo takes flight on his soulful new song “Should Be You” and features rap veterans Fabolous and Diddy.

There is a lot going on on in this winding love song, with Ne-Yo and crew helping to break down their journey verse by verse. The guys know how to keep the ladies coming back for more.

This song is one of the first to appear off of his forthcoming album, R.E.D., which has a street release date of November 6 on Def Jam Records / Compound Ent. If you are looking to pick up a pre-order …

MUSIC VIDEO: Taylor Swift – “Begin Again”

There is no escaping or resisting Taylor Swift at this point. She has the number one album in the country, which is poised to sell one million copies this week, and now she has another video in the form of her latest single, “Begin Again.” The clip follows a brokenhearted Taylor as she strolls the Sienne in an obnoxiously adorable outfit and fights with her boyfriend. Fitting, of course, but it’s far more subdued than many will expect. You can view the video after the jump.

Red is available now wherever music is sold.

Country darling Taylor Swift has come a long way in her young life, and it seems like the good just keeps getting better. That’s right, T Swift may go platinum in her first week.

Of course, anyone following Swift’s rise to the top has already witnessed the young starlet cross the platinum mark, but anytime someone can sell that many units in the current industry is cause …

REVIEW: Taylor Swift – Red

Artist: Taylor Swift
Album: Red
Label: Big Machine
Genre: Pop/country

In an interview with Billboard magazine recently, Taylor Swift was asked to characterise her latest release, Red. She replied, “It’s all the different ways you can say goodbye to someone.” This is a fitting description for the phenomenally successful artist’s fourth album, a complex and surely divisive leap of faith, as it represents more than anything she’s done a move from her precocious, girlish roots into something more self-aware, mature, and considered. It’s a beautiful album and a really magical listen to anyone in the right frame of mind, …

STREAM: Taylor Swift – “State Of Grace”

We are less than a week away from the release of Taylor Swift’s latest album, Red. Keeping with her recent promotional efforts, Taylor released another new song from the record earlier this morning, and now you can stream the track right here on UTG!

“State Of Grace” feels like the most mature and dare I say sophisticated single to surface from Red to date. It’s near whimsical at times, though still firmly rooted in the life and melodrama of a young twenty-something. You can stream the song after the jump.

The tracks that have surfaced so far have left …

You can stream the song after the jump.

Even if you hate the world of EDM, it’s pretty hard to deny the power of the hook on “I Knew You Were Trouble,” right? If you agree, click here to purchase the single on iTunes.

LISTEN: Taylor Swift Teases Dubstep Track “I Knew You Were Trouble”

The release of Taylor Swift’s new album, Red, is fast approaching. Before today we’ve previewed a handful of songs that find Swift blurring the lines between country and pop, but now it’s time to turn things towards the world of EDM. That’s right, America’s country sweetheart is embracing the world of dubstep for at least one song off her upcoming release, and earlier today a thirty-second clip hit the internet. You can stream the snippet, which is taken from the track “I Knew You Were Trouble,” after the jump.

“I Knew You Were Trouble” hits iTunes tomorrow. Look for …

STREAM: Taylor Swift – Begin Again

A second single from Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated album, Red, has surfaced online. Available for streaming after the jump, “Begin Again” finds Swift returning to her stripped down, ballad-loving roots with nothing but a guitar, light percussion, and the angelic sound of her voice. I was personally not a fan (in the slightest) of “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and felt a sensation of relief when first experiencing “Begin Again.” Swift knows how to keep her core audience happy, and that is exactly what “Begin Again” accomplishes. Click through and enjoy.

Red hits stores in October.

Taylor Swift Premieres “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” Video

Following last night’s 30-second teaser, Taylor Swift has released her official music video for “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” The song is still not winning us over, but a beautifully directed clip from Declan Whitebloom (who was also behind the camera for Taylor’s “Mean” and “Ours” videos) is more than worth your time. The clip is a continuous-take video, which means there is no edits between takes, and that alone is something to applaud. You can view the video after the jump.

Red arrives October 22.

Taylor Swift Teases “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” Video

Taylor Swift has released the first preview of her forthcoming music video, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

Scheduled to sometime tomorrow, the video for “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” looks to find Taylor celebrating life with her closest friends. The clip shows very little, but it’s clear the production value is through the roof. Will it be enough to make the instantly forgettable hook a bit less of a snooze? We’ll have to wait and see. You can view a preview of the video after the jump.

Taylor Swift will release Red this October.
