STREAM/DOWNLOAD: John Frusciante – “Wayne”

Former Red Hot Chili Pepper John Frusciante has had a long and scattered solo career. Ever since he left the band for a second time, updates from him are few and far between, with the biggest news being the surprise that he may work with Danny Carey from Tool and cEvin Key from Skinny Puppy on some new tunes.

Last night, Frusciante gave us a new instrumental that was a tribute to his newly passed away friend, Wayne Forman. His post reads

This song was recorded for my friend Wayne Forman, the coolest, kindest friend anybody could ever

Thom Yorke And Nigel Godrich Are Doing An AMA On Reddit RIGHT NOW

Musician Thom Yorke and producer Nigel Godrich will be doing an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit today, starting at 12:30pm EST, according to Yorke’s label XL Recordings.

That’s right, for a short period of time all that will separate you from the Radiohead frontman (and Radiohead’s long-time producer) is a keyboard and an internet connection.

But maybe keep the Radiohead questions to a minimum? The AMA is being billed as an Atoms For Peace affair. The experimental supergroup – consisting of Yorke, Godrich, percussionist Maruo Refosco, drummer Joey Waronker, and bass guitarist Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers

Danny Carey cEvin Key John Frusciante

Danny Carey (Tool), cEvin Key (Skinny Puppy) And John Frusciante (ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers) Working On Side Project?

UPDATE: After seeing our post, cEvin posted on his personal Facebook page saying “Danny and I have stuff going, but we’ll have to hope that John drops by one day !  <3 nice thought, as it would be cool.”

We’ve been waiting on a new Tool album for far too long – quite literally, their last album came out seven years ago, with reports saying the album has been in works since 2009. Frontman Maynard James Keenan started a winery and filmed a documentary since 2006′s 10,000 Days came out. If you found yourself asking what drummer Danny Carey was …

John Frusciante (ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers) To Reissue Albums On Vinyl

John Frusciante quit the Red Hot Chili Peppers to fully pursue his solo career, to make music he thought was indescribable (and which turned out to be two solo albums that are pretty much synth-based hip hop. Why was that so hard to describe, John? Why?) Now, he is re-releasing some of his solo catalog on vinyl in December.

The problem with this re-issue campaign? It isn’t re-releasing any of his hard to find albums, like Niandra Lades & Usually Just a T-Shirt or Smile From The Streets You Hold. Vinyl fans are probably happy, but I’m guessing most …

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea Leads Sports Protest

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are famed sports fans, with drummer Chad Smith a fan of all teams Detroit, and the band themselves writing multiple songs that reference their love for the Los Angeles Lakers. Flea, a former USC music student, played the national anthem at a UCLA game recently, and was wearing a shirt that spearheaded some protesting.

UCLA had a recruit, Shabazz Muhammad, declared ineligible, and Flea was wearing a “Free Shabazz Muhammad” shirt. The crowd ate it up and chanted a “Free Shabazz” chant. Given that Flea went to USC, I really think he was just doing …

Pussy Riot Releases Thank You Video To Supporters, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers

This is seriously punk as fuck. I generally try not to use any real language when writing for the site, but that’s the only way I can really describe Pussy Riot’s newest video. What some people don’t know or realize is that two members of Pussy Riot fled Russia before the arrests started happening due to a overwhelming fear that they were next. However they’ve recently come out and created a new video thanking members of the punk and music community who have been supporting the band throughout their tough trial.

For those who don’t know, Pussy Riot is a …

Red Hot Chili Peppers Release Video For “Brendan’s Death Song”

Red Hot Chili Peppers are back today with the release of their brand new music video for the I’m With You track “Brendan’s Death Song” and can be seen right here. This touching song is in remembrance of their late friend Brendan Mullen, who was a founder of late Seventies Hollywood punk club the Masque.

The jazz-themed funeral procession is eerie in its own way but RHCP fans can definitely identify with them. Such a bold message from their 2011 release. Read what bassist Flea has to say to about their friend Brendan Mullen below and be sure to watch …
