Record Store Day 2013 Features Highest Sales Ever

That’s right, folks. Record Store Day this year had a new …record… for sales. The USA Today is reporting that 200,000 units were sold the week of RSD this year, up from 147,000 in 2012. Vinyl sales overall have been on the increase for a while even as overall music sales were slumping.

Perhaps most interesting is how the rate of increase on album sales over the prior week has changed each year. The growth has been as follows:
2013 (April 20, 2013): +59%
2012 (April 21, 2012): +27%
2011 (April 16, 2011): +39%
2010 (April 17, 2010): +12%

STREAM: Surfer Blood – “Slow Six”

In the wake of Record Store Day, many of the exclusive tracks that were released are now starting to surface here on the interweb. The previously unreleased, “Slow Six,” by Surfer Blood, just happens to be one of those tunes.

The track is the featured b-side on their 7″ Record Store Day release, which also includes their lead single, “Demon Dance,” from their upcoming album, Pythons. “Slow Six” is a waltz based record done right. It includes all of the heavy feedback, reverb, and guitar bends that give Surfer Blood their signature sunny, indie-pop sound.

LYRIC VIDEO: Deftones – “Swerve City”

Deftones released their new lyric video for “Swerve City” yesterday afternoon.

Utilizing footage from old school westerns, the video compliments the song fairly well with eerie vibes.

“Swerve City” is the opening track to the band’s late 2012 release, Koi No Yokan, which can be picked up on iTunes.

In other news, Deftones will be releasing the first of their 12″ vinyl series, Live: Volume I – Selections From Adrenaline, this April 20 for Record Store Day. This installment will feature four live tracks from their October 13, 1996 show in Buffalo, NY. Their final …

In addition to the plethora of vinyl to be released for Record Store Day 2013, we have come to find out that the recent rumors of Touche Amore and Title Fight‘s split 7″ look to be true.

According to Vintage Vinyl, a record store based out of New Jersey, the split is going to include tracks by each band covering each other’s songs, and is going to be limited to 975 copies. Record Store Day 2013 Release List Announced

Vinyl purchasing is on the rise in the industry. However it never really died. Celebrated since 2007, Record Store Day is a day in April (2013 will celebrate on April 20) where fans celebrate their local record shops by purchasing records. While I am of the strict belief that every day is record store day, this special day does have something fun to offer collectors: limited vinyl. Today at UTG we are excited to share with you a list (which I’m sure will get updated).

Labels work together with their artists to bring limited, repressed, and unreleased material to wax, …
