Chiodos Sign With Razor & Tie

Just two days after announcing plans to keep announcing things until they have new music to share with us (which won’t be until the Fall), Chiodos have partnered with AltPress to announce they signed a new record deal with Razor & Tie.

Speaking on the deal, keyboardist Bradley Bell offered “There needs to be more labels like Razor & Tie out there. I feel like they actually understand the bands motives and will do what it takes to help us present our vision. It’s going to be a fun adventure that we are about to embark on with them.”

Lauryn Hill Sentencing Pushed Back, Signs $1 Million Record Deal With Sony

It is no secret that Fugees alumni Lauryn Hill has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons this year.

She evaded paying taxes from 2005 to 2007 and is looking to spend time in jail for failing to pay an astounding $968,000. TMZ has reported that Hill’s sentencing date has been pushed back until May 6.

On a more positive note, Lauryn Hill has signed a $1 million record deal with Sony and is planning to take out a $650,000 loan to help pay for the tax debts. Hopefully this will be the turn around the hip-hop icon …

HiM Sign To Razor & Tie, Tour And Album Coming Soon

According to the most hypercritical news post I’ve seen made on a website other than UTG, HiM have signed to Razor & Tie Records. Their next album, Tears On Tape, will be released on April 30. At first, I thought that album title was just a play on sadder sounding music, but it turns out that it is actually the album title.

A tour is expected to be announced next week, according to the press release. Tears On Tape will be the first record the band has done since 2010′s Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice released on Sire …

HOLY SH!T: Trinidad James Signs Multi-Million Dollar Deal With Def Jam

Georgia-based rapped Trinidad James has been the talk of underground hip hop since the release of his debut mixtape, Don’t Be S.A.F.E. (Sensitive As Fuck Everyday), but today his takeover of the genre reached another level when James reportedly signed a $2 million dollar deal with Def Jam. Multiple sources are confirming the news, including PremiereHipHop, but James himself has yet to make a comment.

We were going to save this information until the weekend, but James’ mixtape will be appearing in a special feature around the highlights of 2012 in the coming days. If you haven’t experienced …

The Weeknd Signs With Universal Republic, Announces “Trilogy” Release

Canada’s The Weeknd has gone major.

Even though his name is still fresh on the lips of most music fans, The Weeknd has dominated the blogosphere over the better part of the last two years. His crooning goes into sonic territory that is still largely unexplored by mainstream artists, and this deal could lead to big things for a whole realm of great, soulful artists on the rise. His first release will be Trilogy, a compilation of his previous three mixtapes with new material included for longtime supporters. Fan favorite “Wicked Games” will be the lead single, and sources …

Drake Addresses “Leaving Young Money” Rumors

Drake has found more success from his latest releases than even we expected and as a result, the rumor mill is alive and well.

Earlier this week, rumors began circulating online that Drizzy Drake was considering leaving his family at Young Money in search of a bigger, better deal. This is (of course) untrue, but rumors have persisted to the point that Aubrey felt the need to speak out.

While on stage in Toronto, Drake proclaimed “If you ever wake up and think Young Money ain’t my team, you out your mind. My brother Lil Wayne is all the way …

Victory Records Welcomes The Royalty

Victory Records broke their recent habit of signing skull-rattling heavy bands and announced today that indie pop rockers The Royalty have officially joined the roster.

The announcement came today via a video uploaded to the label’s official Youtube page. In it, Victory not only welcomes the band, but also showcases a bit of their near-shoegaze sound. You can view the video after the jump.

While news of a softer-genre band on Victory may come as a surprise to some, those familiar with the label’s history will note that signings like this tend to happen every 3-4 years. Just ask June, …

MUSIC VIDEO: Game ft. Chris Brown – Pot of Gold

This may be the worst title and idea for a song this year, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t go hard. Game recruits known woman-abuser Chris “Breezy” Brown for this single and while it doesn’t stray far from the game’s normal delivery, it’s still a welcomed sound in the deafening similarity that is modern hip hop. Click below and enjoy:

Game recently told XXL he’s been talking to Birdman about joining the Cash Money family. This would only make sense seeing how ofte Game chooses members of the YMCMB family to guest on his records, but do you think …

Odd Future (probably) sign, maintain creative control

OFWGKTA may have finally found a home in the corporate world AND somehow managed to do so without losing an ounce of control. It is being reported that Red Distribution/Sony Records will hold all the acts associated with Odd Future under one umbrella, while allowing the group to maintain 100% creative control over their music and careers. A statement issued by group’s manager can read below:

“It’s based on getting the distribution deal we’ve always envisioned that allows the group to “sign themselves” to their own company and keep their masters. They will have 100% creative control of all aspects
