UTG PHOTOS: Clockwork Indigo – Flatbush Zombies And The Underachievers (12/5/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer Derek Scancarelli to Best Buy Theater in New York City to photograph Clockwork Indigo on December 5, 2014.

In October, Brooklyn hip-hop crews Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers dropped a collaborative EP entitled Clockwork Indigo.

The New York City stop of the Clockwork Indigo Tour marked the last weekend of a 36-date run of shows around the United States where the groups took stage under their A Clockwork Orange inspired collaboration.

Aside from the Stanley Kubrick themed logos, the other main semblances to the director’s obscure and maniacal styling was the raw energy and …

YG Spits His “2015 Flow” In New Music Video

Between the massive success of multiple singles with backing from Drake and Jeezy to the critical acclaim of his debut record, My Krazy Life, 2014 has undoubtedly been the year of YG. Capping off his ascent to rap stardom in the past 12 months, the Bompton born artist released a short film and accompanying soundtrack, entitled Blame it on the Streets. The audio side of the effort features “2015 Flow,” a ferocious cut that finds YG taking a broad shot at the Grammy establishment for not including him in this year’s group of award nominees while reminding …

Albums and Artists That Will Transcend My Year

I’d like to close out my first year of music journalism with a short list of short lists in typical end-of-the-year fashion. It’s been a wonderful half-year here at Under The Gun Review and I’ve had the pleasure of working with and getting to know some very talented and passionate journalists in my time so far. On top of that, I’ve spoken to some of my favorite artists, and even got to voice my opinion on some really excellent pieces of music. Of course, 2014 has also been an excellent year full of fresh and inspiring music. At the end …

Upcoming emcee ILoveMakonnen has been getting a ton of hype as this year has progressed, and with the last few days of the year beginning to wrap up, he dropped a new single for us to chew over until we see what he brings in 2015.

The single, titled “Swerve,” sees classic production from Mike WiLL Made It and Marz. It’s a loose track that unexpectedly brings jazz flutes on to round out a subtle cruiser. Just wait until you start hearing it in the background of every single Vine. Regardless, we can’t help but think it would be a …

Over the last few days, Sony Pictures Entertainment has been scrambling. Hear Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé on “Feelin’ Myself”

Earlier this year, Beyoncé brought Nicki Minaj onboard for an intense remix of “Flawless” in the way that the quick spitter can make possible. Now, Minaj has shared a brand new single featuring Queen B called “Feelin’ Myself” off her upcoming studio album, The Pinkprint, out December 16 via Young Money, and it gets a little grittier.

Produced by Hit-Boy, “Feelin’ Myself” is a glitchy beat that saunters in low tones, remaining relatively dark throughout until Beyonce’s bright vocals lighten things up. There’s no beef here. Instead, the two divas take it slow, letting their lines speak for themselves …

Sunday Morning Massacres

Killer Mike Drops ‘Sunday Morning Massacres’ Mixtape For Free

With all the news of police brutality, murders, and racism still prevalent in America, Run the Jewels‘ fast-spitting songs about retaliating against the government and bringing humanity together take on a new meaning. But as if that wasn’t enough, Killer Mike went and released an old mixtape this past Sunday, because if there’s anything we can depend on, it’s his lyrical genius to guide us towards action.

The mixtape, titled Sunday Morning Massacres, uses biblical themes to kick things up with Killer Mike’s approachable fury. If he sounds younger, though, give yourself a pat on the back. The mixtape …
