THE HUDSON PROJECT: Bro Safari On Growing Up Punk And Performing Drunk

“Growing up, personally I was a full on punk kid; the leather jacket, the boots, bracelets and everything. The first band I ever listened to, period, was the Dead Kennedys.”

If you’re a fan of trappy, bass-driven hip-hop and electronic music, chances are good that you’ve heard of Bro Safari. If you’re fortunate, you’ve been able to witness him perform live. Also known as one third of the drum ‘n’ bass group Evol Intent, Nick Weiller has taken stage all around the world.

At Day 1 of the inaugural Hudson Project in Saugerties, NY, we sat down with …

MUSIC VIDEO: YG – “Bicken Back Being Bool”

Elevating himself from the streets of Compton Bompton to the national spotlight, YG has been on quite a tear in 2014. With the release of his game-changing AOTY contender, My Krazy Life, alongside selling out venue after venue from coast to coast on an album-supporting tour, he’s managed to grab the respect of fans and critics alike. As seen in the brand new music video for the DJ Mustard produced cut “Bicken Back Being Bool,” though, it’s obvious YG hasn’t forgotten his roots.

Combining his modern take on the West Coast’s classic sound with visuals straight out of a …

THE HUDSON PROJECT: Atmosphere’s Slug On Success, His “Dante’s Inferno” and Hip-Hop’s Lifespan

“I don’t know how we got to where we got, but I’m not complaining. I’m happy that we are where we are and I’m not greedy about where we’re trying to go.”

Atmosphere have been making music for over two decades. The guys run their own festival, maintain family lives, and still keep it real.

On Friday, July 11, the hip-hop legends took stage at the inaugural Hudson Music Project in Saugerties, NY, fresh off the release of their 2014 album, Southsiders.

As a music journalist, it is always new and exciting to catch up with up-and-coming artists, …

Kanye West Played 20 New Songs in London Yesterday

When it comes to Kanye West, it’s best to expect the unexpected. Shortly after dropping the excellent Yeezus out of nowhere last summer, he’s already dishing up new material despite getting married, working on his fashion line, and doing court-ordered community service. That’s right. After London’s Wireless festival last night, Kanye and consigliere Virgil Abloh manned a London club’s DJ booth where he supposedly spun new material.

According to Complex and several eyewitness Twitter accounts, they played around 20 new songs. People described it as “dark,” “hellish,” and (surprise) “groundshaking.” Who knows if the songs are …

Emmure Frontman Frankie Palmeri Raps On Riff Raff’s “2 Girls 1 Pipe” Remix

Talk about ‘when worlds collide.’

Emmure frontman Frankie Palmeri has contributed a verse – a rap verse – to the latest remix from the hip-hop sensation known as Riff Raff. “2 Girls 1 Pipe” originally appeared on Neon Icon, but this remix is exclusive to the internet (for now). It also happens to be one of the most overtly sexual rap songs in recent memory, and that goes double for the verse from Frankie. You can stream the song, in full below:…

RiFF RAFF Shares Ridiculous “iNTRODUCiNG THE iCON” Music Video

The internet’s favorite rapper RiFF RAFF drops his debut record NEON iCON  tomorrow to much well-deserved hype. To get the world prepped for the experience of actually owning the whole Diplo-produced thing, he’s shared a new music video for the album’s first track, “iNTRODUCiNG THE iCON.”

The song has RiFF RAFF telling people not to worry (shoutout to Julia Stiles and Diplo) as he raps over an old school beat. Right from the start, it captures his ridiculous personality. To match that, the video has glow-in-the-dark neon everything, lots of splatter paint, and random cartoon imagery bouncing around the frames. …

Eminem Banned From Hyde Park for “Offensive” and “Unsuitable” Lyrics

Longtime rapper Eminem had agreed terms with Barclaycard British Summer Time promoters AEG, but a Freedom Of Information request by The Daily Mirror shows the agreement was vetoed by Royal Parks, the body that runs Hyde Park, because they feared his lyrics could upset other park users. The result? He’s banned from playing a day festival in Hyde Park due to his lyrics being deemed “offensive” and “unsuitable.” Yes, this is the same guy who melted hearts with his “Headlights” Mothers’ Day music video.

Just last month, Eminem was saying he was under the impression he could make …

Kanye West’s Court-Ordered Community Service Was Announced and It’s Pretty Great

Back in March of this year, Kanye West pleaded “no contest” to misdemeanor battery and attempted grand theft after confronting paparazzi and the court ruled that he was sentenced to 24 months of probation and 250 hours of community service. TMZ has just shared what Kanye’s community service obligations are, and it’s actually pretty great: teaching at a fashion school.

Apparently he’s been speaking at colleges all over the country. On Monday of this week, he went to the L.A. Trade Technical College to give a three-hour discussion on fashion designers, marking his third visit there in six weeks. Honestly, …

ALBUM STREAM: RiFF RAFF – ‘NEON iCON’

Hip hop’s biggest self-proclaimed viral artist, RiFF RAFF, finally drops his debut album, NEON iCON, on June 28. We’ve heard all sorts of Diplo-produced,  Childish Gambino collab, ridiculous goodness off the album already, but today, at long last, the album can be streamed in full.

The record shows RiFF RAFF dropping lines about cocaine, bi-curious mermaids, and tipping his hat to Reese Witherspoon. He’s boisterous and loud, but what else could we ask for? Maybe some decent beats, but he’s already got those on there. Halfway through, you’ll probably want to go ahead and pre-order it

Busdriver Called In Danny Brown And Aesop Rock, Dropped A Killer Track

Busdriver, a west coast emcee with rapid-fire verses and fantastic references, is dropping a new record on September 9. It’s called Perfect Hair, it’s coming out on Big Dada, and it’s probably going to be great.

The first cut is the Jeremiah Jae-produced “Ego Death,” and he’s enlisted Danny Brown (“the rap Marilyn Manson”) and Aesop Rock to add some extra personality to a six-minute track that goes deep with an ominous stomp.

This is nothing new for Busdriver, who first caught my ear with an even better track for which he also brought in two guests. One …

Game To Release ‘The Documentary 2′ In January 2015

Time flies.

Game’s debut album, The Documentary, was released in early 2005. The album spawned a number of singles and solidified the West Coast rapper as a prominent member of the urban music community. Now, ten years later, Game will attempt to recreate the magic he found on that release by dropping The Documentary 2 in January 2015.

Yes, Game is planning a new album to coincide with his debut record hitting the decade point. He broke the news earlier today during an interview with Power 106 in LA. You can stream the initial announcement below:…
