BEHIND THE SCENES: Melody Joy’s “Beauty Is Pain” Video Shoot

Melody Joy is one of the most ridiculously unique performers I’ve stumbled upon in a while. Admittedly, at first view of her music video for “Ronald Reagan,” I was confused and drawn in by the spectacle of it all. It combines elements of humor, strangeness, various foods and sexuality. It’s the first rap song that I’ve seen incorporate a Mikhail Gorbachev reference and a popcorn-filled bathtub. It seemed strange that it only had a few hundred views on it, but it turns out YouTube took it down after 15,000 views because of its sexual nature, but Joy later …

Azealia Banks 2012

Azealia Banks Shares New Song “Chasing Time”

Last we heard from Harlem rapper Azealia Banks, she had dropped a music video for her new single “Heavy Metal and Reflective.” Now the buzz girl has shared a new song called “Chasing Time” and we may not be able to listen to anything else all day.

“Chasing Time” sees Banks laying down a dreamy swirl of smooth production and quick, rounded raps. It seems ever since she cut herself from Interscope, Banks is shaping her extremely delayed album, Broke With Expensive Taste, exactly how she wants to. If she wanted to prove she’s more than …

flying Lotus Never Catch Me

Listen to Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar on Single “Never Catch Me”

Last month, Flying Lotus shared his first cut from his upcoming album, You’re Dead!out October 7 via Warp Records. The song, titled “Moment of Hesitation,” saw Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, and more bringing jazz elements to the forefront while still showcasing FlyLo’s natural knack at magical electronic fluttering. Now he’s shared a new single, “Never Catch Me,” which features Kendrick Lamar.

“Never Catch Me” is considerably faster-moving than his last single. It explodes with a flurry of electronic stuttering, claps, and Lamar’s huge verse he drops partway through, making for a mindblowing experience if you’re wearing proper …

Watch Clipping.’s Incredibly Inventive “Inside Out” Music Video

Sub Pop has gotten really into hip hop lately, and Clipping. is their newest act on the bill. After dropping a remarkable debut, CLPPNG, full of extremely vivid lyricism and original instrumental backing beats, the Los Angeles-based trio have been prepping highly-engaging visuals. The newest on their list is a side-smirking lyric video for “Inside Out.”

Instead of taking the usual route and pasting the words across the screen, Clipping. have plopped Daveed Diggs in the center of the screen and asked him to walk around the city rapping the song’s lyrics. One snip in Photoshop and his head is …

Entitled Unknown Memory, the forthcoming record which will feature fan-favorite “Yoshi City” is set to drop on September 23 according to a spacey teaser.

Hear Riff Raff and Action Bronson Team Up on “Rookies of the Future”

When Jody Highroller puts anything out, it’s safe to bet the song will be as ridiculous as the rapper’s entire look. On his newest track, Riff Raff skirts around any incredible lines by relying on a pretty smooth beat, courtesy of Alchemist, and the hard-hitting words of fellow rapper Action Bronson. The song, titled “Rookies of The Future,” sees both men exchanging verses over the course of the 3-minute song, although truth be told, the song feels much longer in the best way possible.

Don’t forget to check out Action Bronson’s latest video, “Easy Rider,” which sees …

Eminem Announces New Album, Streams ‘The Equalizer’ Soundtrack Single Feat. Sia

It seems rap legend Eminem has been pretty busy lately. After finishing ‘The Monster Tour‘ with Rihanna, the 7-time VMA nominee took home the award for “Best Editing” with his music video for “Rap God” at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards. But that’s not all; in the last 24 hours, Em also debuted a new single, entitled “Guts Over Fear,” featuring Sia. The song will be featured on the soundtrack for the latest Denzel Washington flick, The Equalizer.

But wait, there’s more! Last night at the VMAs, Eminem announced that he would be releasing a new …

Action Bronson Cruises In “Easy Rider” Trailer

Making our staff an excited bunch, Action Bronson officially put the hype machine into motion for his forthcoming debut full-length, Mr. Wonderful, earlier this month with the release of its first single, “Easy Rider.” Featuring psychedelic instrumentals best fit for an acid trip circa 1970, the track’s experimental nature is a prime example of Bronson’s genre-hopping nature at its finest, so it only makes sense that a music video would be in store to accompany the cut.

Rather than making us wait cold turkey until August 20, though, Bronsolino has dropped a teaser for the campy visuals in store. …

Missy

Get Your Freak On; New Missy Elliott Record In The Works

Way before teenage girls with Instagram would twerk it, Missy ‘MISDEMEANOR’ Elliott taught our youth how to work it. And before Timbaland was recognized for working with artists such as Justin Timberlake, he was notoriously known for shooting rappers like Elliott into the next realm of hip-hop super stardom.

“It’s coming,” producer Timbaland told Rolling Stone. “It’s on her. She got the first single, it’s just a matter of when she wants to do it. We got the hollow-tip bullet in the gun. We have the game-changer right there.”

For Missy, it’s been a quiet few years; and by years …

THE HUDSON PROJECT: Bro Safari On Growing Up Punk And Performing Drunk

“Growing up, personally I was a full on punk kid; the leather jacket, the boots, bracelets and everything. The first band I ever listened to, period, was the Dead Kennedys.”

If you’re a fan of trappy, bass-driven hip-hop and electronic music, chances are good that you’ve heard of Bro Safari. If you’re fortunate, you’ve been able to witness him perform live. Also known as one third of the drum ‘n’ bass group Evol Intent, Nick Weiller has taken stage all around the world.

At Day 1 of the inaugural Hudson Project in Saugerties, NY, we sat down with …

MUSIC VIDEO: YG – “Bicken Back Being Bool”

Elevating himself from the streets of Compton Bompton to the national spotlight, YG has been on quite a tear in 2014. With the release of his game-changing AOTY contender, My Krazy Life, alongside selling out venue after venue from coast to coast on an album-supporting tour, he’s managed to grab the respect of fans and critics alike. As seen in the brand new music video for the DJ Mustard produced cut “Bicken Back Being Bool,” though, it’s obvious YG hasn’t forgotten his roots.

Combining his modern take on the West Coast’s classic sound with visuals straight out of a …
