REVIEW: Four Year Strong – ‘Four Year Strong’

Artist: Four Year Strong
Album: Four Year Strong
Label: Pure Noise Records
Genre: Easycore, baby

Before we take the next 1,100 words or so to discuss the new Four Year Strong record, let’s talk about presentation.

Four Year Strong is a band that has always cared about presentation. Ridiculous promo pictures featuring the band’s enormous men in FYS-branded varsity jackets, the famous beards, song titles riddled with highly-quotable movie lines, and cartoon album artwork with robot sharks, wizards, and centaurs are all essential parts of the brand that Four Year Strong spent so much time building in the late 2000s. …

Brigades Announce Debut LP, Stream Lead Single, “Enemy”

South Carolina’s Brigades have teamed up with Substream Magazine to premiere the lead single off their debut full-length, Indefinite. Stream “Enemy” after the break, and let us know if you’re a fan in the replies.

“’Enemy’ is a song about my personal thoughts on organized religion and how toxic it can be to everyone on this earth,” vocalist Darren Young told Substream. “It’s a little more political and controversial compared to most of the other songs, but definitely an important one.”

Indefinite will arrive on July 28 via Pure Noise Records, and will act as the outfit’s second release …

Counterparts Announce New Record ‘Tragedy Will Find Us,’ Release First Single

Counterparts have proven their worth as the most promising band in melodic metalcore with their fantastic 2013 record, The Difference Between Hell And Home. The Canadian band will follow up that near-perfect record with Tragedy Will Find Us, out August 1 on Pure Noise. You can stream the first single, “Burn,” below.

“Burn” starts off as a standard Counterparts song, with a melodic guitar riff that begins to build up the emotional weight carried by the urgent instrumentals and vocals. Things get weird around the 90-second mark with a tempo change that I love and a spoken word …

Titled “Eating My Words,” the Worcester foursome’s latest offering is an introspective punk anthem with one hell of a catchy hook. Check it out after the break, and share your thoughts with us in the replies.

FYS will spend the remainder of the month on the road, touring alongside The Story So Far, Terror, and Souvenirs. If you’d like to get in on the action, a full list of dates can …

Pure Noise Records Welcomes No Good News

During the winter of 2014 I discovered a band from New York called No Good News that I immediately knew had something special to their sound. I can’t describe what that something was in detail, but I knew it when I heard it, and with each of the thirty-plus plays I gave their EP since that time I have heard it again and again.

Turns out, I’m not alone in thinking this band could be the next big thing.

Today, Pure Noise Records announced the addition of No Good News to their ever-growing roster of talent. The label will be …

Senses Fail Release Disconcerting Music Video For “The Importance Of The Moment Of Death”

In November of last year, New Jersey post-hardcore outfit Senses Fail announced that they will be entering the studio and releasing Pull The Thorns From Your Heart, their impending sixth studio album, some time this summer. Lead singer Buddy Nielsen describes the effort as “the complete documentation of my transformative spiritual experience from the darkness to the light.”

The new record is officially scheduled for a June 30 release via Pure Noise. Below you will find the music video for its lead single, entitled “The Importance Of The Moment Of Death.” The video features a frighteningly accurate depiction of …

Four Year Strong Release Lyric Video For “I’m A Big, Bright, Shining Star”

In a day that just keeps delivering good news, Four Year Strong have released a lyric video for their new track “I’m A Big, Bright, Shining Star,” off of their upcoming LP, Four Year Strong, due out June 2 out via Pure Noise Records.

With the music released thus far considered a return to form for the band, “I’m A Big, Bright, Shining Star” continues with the high-octane punk covered in pop the band is known for.

The song title appears to clearly be a reference to the one and only Boogie Nights, the 1997 film directed by …

The Story So Far Stream “Heavy Gloom”

The pop-punk world is set to explode on May 18 when The Story So Far release their new self-titled record. We’ve already heard a few cuts from the record, and the band has started off Monday morning by releasing another single titled “Heavy Gloom.”

Track two on the new record, “Heavy Gloom” plays closely to the formula we’ve come to expect from the Walnut Creek band. As usual, Parker Cannon’s powerful voice takes center stage over a grooving, distorted pop-punk instrumental. I’m a fan of the prominent bass tones on this song, but all in all, this sounds a lot …

Counterparts Sign With Pure Noise Records

Canadian hardcore band and Victory Records alumni Counterparts have signed with Pure Noise Records / New Damage Records for the release of their upcoming fourth full-length record this Summer.

This is extremely exciting news for Counterparts. The band received near universal acclaim for 2013′s The Difference Between Hell and Home, but the lack of promotion that accompanies being signed to Victory Records in the 2010s held the band back from their full potential. Seeing the band move to a more appropriate label, particularly one as great as Pure Noise, is promising. I predict that Counterparts will be one of …

The Story So Far 2012

The Story So Far Stream New Single, “Solo”

Over the weekend, The Story So Far stopped by BBC Radio 1 to debut another new track off their upcoming self-titled album, due out May 19 via Pure Noise Records.

Titled “Solo,” the outfit’s latest offering harkens back to their earlier undertakings without sacrificing the abrasive riffage found on 2013’s What You Don’t See. While it doesn’t go down quite as easy as the previously released “Nerve,” it’s still a jam-and-a-half, boasting some of Parker Cannon’s most acidic lyrics to date. Stream it below, and let us know if you’re a fan in the replies.

Front Porch Step Finally Releases Statement Regarding Sexual Misconduct Allegations

After three months of hiding out away from the internet and public eye, Jake McElfresh, better known by his stage name Front Porch Step, has released a statement via Facebook regarding December’s allegations of sexual misconduct with minors. You can read the entire post below.

Late last year, allegations regarding McElfresh’s conduct with underage girls on the internet surfaced via a Change.org petition seeking to remove Front Porch Step from the 2015 Vans Warped Tour. McElfresh has since cancelled all of his touring plans for the year. McElfresh’s social media accounts have fallen quiet in the wake of the …
