UTG TRACK-BY-TRACK: The Smith Street Band – ‘Throw Me In The River’

Of recent years, Melbourne, Australia’s The Smith Street Band have evolved from beloved local act, plying their craft in dive bars around Melbourne, to full-fledged international touring folk-punk tour-de-force. One of the key components of this evolution has been vocalist and principle songwriter Will Wagner’s ability to forge a deeply emotional connection with the fan base via his unique and decidedly visual lyrical style. When coupled with his heavily accented but impassioned delivery, Wagner’s lyrics take you on an intimate journey through the many intricate workings of our human existence, evoking emotions of jubilation, despair, anger, defiance, love and everything …

The past few years have seen Melbourne, Australia’s The Smith Street Band grow from local cult favourites to international touring, folk-punk juggernaut. Today, the band released a new lyric video for the poppy-sided track “Tragedy + Time” which definitely shows the band’s maturity in both their music and lyrics. Right now, the world is in a time of tragedy and Rise Against likes to stand up against this and show the way out.…

Denver Riot Fest Denied Permit, Will Search For New Location

Arapahoe County, Colorado has denied Riot Fest‘s request for a temporary-use permit to stage their 3-day music festival on September 19-21 in the small town of Byers. Riot Fest was set to return to the same May Farms location where the festival took place in 2013, but locals began expressing concerns about the return of the festival, as an estimated 17,000 punk rock fans per day were about to invade their community of 1,000 residents.

Arapahoe County Zoning Administrator Tammy King cited “a general sense of being overrun with traffic and people” in her letter of denial, as …

UTG PHOTOS: Hardcore Devo Tour (6/19/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to Best Buy Theater in New York City to photograph Devo on June 19, 2014.

Last Thursday, Devolutionaries from literally around the world gathered in New York City for the most exciting and bizarre performance I’ve ever seen in Times Square.

“Nixon to address nation tonight at 8 as resignation rumors grow,” reads the headline on a newspaper Mark Mothersbaugh is holding when the curtains open. The room is black except for a single spotlight and immediately an entire room is transported back in time.

The New Wave innovators of electronic art took …
