Streetlight Manifesto Fans Fight To Get DC Venue Changed

Last night a group of punk kids from the DC area began petitioning for Streetlight Manifesto to drop the venue they booked in Northern Virginia (which for those who don’t know is basically a suburb of DC) known as Empire. For those who remember, a few weeks back The Wonder Years spoke out against Empire’s staff for their usage of homophobic slurs. In light of that incident (and others), fans are now asking Streetlight move their final area performance so that fans can attend the show without supporting an establishment that does not believe in equality.

STREAM/DOWNLOAD: Automatic Habit – “Merry Christmas, Don’t Come Home”

File this one under another modern Christmas release that I enjoy more than the classics. “Merry Christmas, Don’t Come Home” has the punk rock sound the title shouts for, and has the stylized lead guitar work that most pop/punk is dearly lacking. The band, Automatic Habit, have released the song for free download on their Bandcamp page.

Singer Johnny Costa said “We just got tired of hearing the same overjoyed Christmas song every year and figured we’d lend a dose of reality. The world needs more bitter Christmas songs. Christmas is bitter.” Their previous songs, “Play It …

REVIEW: The Offspring – Days Go By

Artist: The Offspring
Album: Days Go By
Genre: Punk rock/pop-punk
Label: Columbia

Days Go By is an album cloven in three. It’s an unusual mixture of styles and experiments, veering dramatically from the cocksure, cheeky Offspring quirks we know and love to something far more pointed and sombre to something downright bizarre. It’s a good record, and makes for a stirring 40 minutes or so of listening, but it takes a few plays to really settle and even then it’s easy to pick out a few oddities. Being that this is the band’s ninth album, diversions in sound are to …
