However, Jack White takes the cake this week. The noted vinyl aficionado and Third Man Records founder has outdone himself with the Ultra LP version of his new album, Lazaretto. The album features hidden tracks under the center labels, concentric grooves, multiple playing speeds, and …

Protest The Hero Release Statement Confirming Arif’s Departure

What we had hoped was a cruel April Fools joke has been sealed in reality as Protest The Hero have officially confirmed that original bassist and backing vocalist, Arif Mirabdolbaghi, will no longer be a part of the band for the foreseeable future as he focuses on other projects and steps away from their intense touring schedule.

Give us a moment to wipe our tears away…

Having seen PTH live on several occasions, I can safely say that my eyes were often transfixed on Arif’s happy-go-lucky smile, various playing styles, occasional high kicks, and signature archer move more so than …

Bassist Arif Mirabdolbaghi Leaves Protest The Hero

April Fools’ Day is never really a great day for breaking news, but alas, the news doesn’t stop for the day of pranks.

Back in October, Protest The Hero‘s bassist, Arif Mirabdolbaghi, dropped off the band’s tour at the time to work on an adaptation of a Dostoevsky piece. He hasn’t been on the road with the band since, but now it seems that he will no longer be a part of the group permanently.

According to MetalSucks, Rody Walker announced at one of their performances the other night that Arif will no longer be a part of the …

Intervals

Intervals Premiere New Song, Add Vocalist

One of the biggest chances an instrumental band can take is the addition of vocalist. It fundamentally changes the nature of their music and risks alienating fans who don’t relate to the lyrics. Canadian progressive metalcore act Intervals have made that big leap on their upcoming album, A Voice Within, and you can hear some of the results after the break.

The first single from the album, “Ephemeral,” features the technical riffs, grooves, and shredding guitar solos that fans of their 2012 EP, In Time, have come to love, but this time they set stage for bassist and …

Architects Drop Off Protest The Hero Tour

Protest The Hero are currently headlining a US tour through December, and have some of their friends tagging along with them as support. One of those bands is the UK group known as Architects. They’ve been on the road for a while now, but announced earlier today that they’ve made the decision to drop off the tour due to personal reasons. Unlike the generic reasons bands usually give, the band let fans know why they decided to drop off.

According to their statement, they are physically and mentally exhausted from recording their new album. Since they went out on …

WATCH: Protest The Hero – “Underbite”

Protest The Hero have released a music video for the song “Underbite,” off of the recently released album, Volition. For our review of the album, head here.

As you might have guessed, the video is strange. To the tune of the song, you will experience puppets attending a show of beloved band Insert Name Here. Sweet pyrotechnics, 75 dollar skull tee-shirts, and phallus’ made of paper, you will not be ready.

Interchanging between real actors, and paper puppets, the video is as eccentric as the band’s reputation. But, what better to be the soundtrack to a drunken puppet …

REVIEW: Protest The Hero – ‘Volition’

Artist: Protest The Hero
Album: Volition
Genre: Progressive Metal
Label: Razor & Tie

From the moment the then still teenage Protest the Hero announced themselves to the world with their phenomenal debut record Kezia in 2006, the Whitby, Ontario quintet have been considered somewhat of a divisive force in the heavy music scene. Almost universally revered for their technical proficiency, but often misunderstood by casual listeners due to it, Protest the Hero have amassed an equal amount of fans as they have detractors for the spasmodic, genre-hopping nature of their compositions. Thankfully for the band, the fan base that they …
