Victorian-Halls

Victorian Halls Return With Improved Sound, Announce ‘Hyperalgesia’

There was a time when the roster for Victory Records read like a who’s who of alternative music oddities. Unfortunately, that age of diversity has long since given way to the label’s current set of hardcore and/or metal tinged acts, but for those willing to dig a little deeper than the most talked about roster acts there are still promising groups with a lot of potential to be found.

Victorian Halls burst onto the national stage a few years ago with an impressive, albeit inconsistent debut release. The group then toured extensively in support of that release, spending literally years …

Mumford And Sons Announce New Album, ‘Wilder Mind’

Earlier in the day, Mumford and Sons officially ended their longstanding hiatus by announcing that their third full-length album, Wilder Mind, would be arriving on May 4 via Glassnote Records. Check out a teaser for the London quartet’s latest undertaking after the break.

According to lead vocalist Marcus Mumford, the outfit’s forthcoming effort will lack the signature folk elements of 2012′s Babel, as former banjoist Winston Marshall has now embraced the electric guitar full-time.

“We felt that doing the same thing, or the same instrumentation again, just wasn’t for us,” Mumford recently told Rolling Stone. “We’ve …

Blacklisted-2014

STREAM: Blacklisted – “Burnt Palms”

Philadelphia’s Blacklisted is one of the most important hardcore bands in recent memory. Some may read that statement as hyperbole, but the band continuously dares to reinvent themselves, putting out one emotionally-excruciating record after the next, all of which having their own unique qualities. Today, Blacklisted released another song off their new record, When People Grow, People Go, titled “Burnt Palms.” The song is more reminiscent of some of their older material, specifically Heavier than Heaven Lonelier Than God-era Blacklisted, while still adding a new spin to the sound. The song is searing, mean, and is the kind …

Swingin' Utters

UTG PREMIERE: Swingin’ Utters – “I’m Not Coming Home”

Today, the UTG offices are pleased to share with you a brand new track from Swingin’ Utters, titled “I’m Not Coming Home.” The track comes off of Swingin’ Utters’ upcoming album, Fistful of Hollow, and it’s every bit as fun as you’d expect. We talked to guitarist Darius Koski about where the inspiration for the song came from, and how “I’m Not Coming Home” fits …

Enter Shikari

STREAM: Enter Shikari – “The Last Garrison”

Our friends from across the pond, Enter Shikari, just unleashed the new track “The Last Garrison,” the first single off of their upcoming record, The Mindsweep. The track definitely is in a new distinct musical direction, with a heavier focus on the drum and bass and electronic elements. However, this is still Enter Shikari, so the grand scale and heavy hardcore-influenced sections are alive and well.

The thing I love about Enter Shikari is their ability to really push themselves in a wide variety of directions, exploring what it means to be a band. “The Last Garrison” is …

REVIEW: Young Statues – ‘The Flatlands Are Your Friend’

Artist: Young Statues
Album: The Flatlands Are Your Friend
Genre: Indie/Emo
Label: Run For Cover Records

I walked out of my apartment and took the elevator down to the lobby. I situated my headphones onto my ears, walked to the door, and saw that the rain was coming down in sheets. I was running late and since I was picking up my girlfriend from her night class, I didn’t have time to run back upstairs and grab an umbrella or jacket. So I hit play on the new Young Statues record, The Flatlands Are Your Friend, threw my hood …
