If you’re looking for some good vibes on this fine, post-Labor Day Tuesday night, look no further. STRFKR‘s new remix of Portugal. The Man‘s “Creep In A T-Shirt” brings the good vibes, hard.

STRFKR’s added house elements compliment the track very well, and mesh organically with Portugal’s original track. While it wouldn’t have made sense in the context of the band’s most recent record, Evil Friends, this remix is a welcome addition to their discography.

Help Preserve Portugal. The Man’s “Endangered Song”

Many bands are vocal advocates of environmental sustainability and the preservation of endangered species, but very few have addressed the issues by literally putting their music at risk of extinction. That is exactly what Portugal. The Man have done with “Endangered Song.” The Alaskan rock band’s new seven-inch is designed to degrade after a certain number of plays, and it is limited to 400 copies, corresponding to the number of Sumatran tigers left in the wild. The song was not released digitally, so it is up to fans to conserve the song by ripping and sharing it.

The vinyl record …

Matthew Leimkuehler Album of the Year

Matthew Leimkuehler’s ‘Best of 2013’ In Music

2013 was a year full of insurmountable twists and turns with each new record release. One of the best years in recent memory, music fans world-wide rejoiced over incredible releases amongst all genres in the industry. As the year comes to an end, it has been overwhelmingly difficult to narrow down a list of simply 10 LPs and 5 EPs that made a lasting impact on my life; there were so many substantial and complete records delivered throughout the year.

I found myself latching to records I never thought I’d give two listens (Twenty One Pilots — Vessel), I …

John Bazley Best of 2013

John Bazley’s ‘Best of 2013′ In Music

Looking over the list I’ve penned as my personal ‘Best of 2013 in Music,’ I can’t help but smile. I remember sitting in class around this time last year, scratching down a list on loose leaf of my ‘Most Anticipated of 2013;’ to see how few of those records made my end of the year list is refreshing. Three out of my top ten are debut full-lengths, four are from artists I hadn’t listened to before this year, and one is from a label that established itself in 2013. The discovery and rising popularity of artists I’ve come to love …

Beastie Boys’ Mike D Remixes Portugal. The Man’s “Modern Jesus”

2013 has seen Portugal. The Man go from well-loved to well-known, their indie-rock-meets-friendly-psych-pop sound catching the ears of a wider audience on their new album, Evil Friends. We’re not just talking about regular listeners, either. Danny Brown, Alt-J, and Passion Pit have all taken to remixing songs by Portugal. The Man, showing their love for the band. Now the Beastie Boys’ Mike D has tipped his hat, too, taking on “Modern Jesus” this time.

The song’s original spaciness and echoing bubbles are still there, but his reworking doubles up on the drumming and slips a few hip-hop snippets in. …

MUSIC VIDEO: Portugal. The Man – “Modern Jesus”

Portugal. The Man are back with a new music video for “Modern Jesus” off their new album, Evil Friends. The video shows singer John Gourley singing his part while going across various parts of America. Get ready for things that are implied to need saving (here’s to you, modern Jesus) like rampant 4-wheelers, shotguns, and arson.

Evil Friends is Portugal. The Man’s seventh album, one of which has been seeing high praise from critics and fans alike since it came out in early June. Single “Purple Yellow Red and Blue” also saw its own music video, which is pretty different …

Austin City Limits

Austin City Limits Releases Schedule

Austin, TX’s slogan should include not only keeping the DIY-centered city “weird,” but musical too. Austin City Limits returns this year for two weekends, October 4-6 and October 11-13, and the schedule has just been released. Much to festival-goers’ delights, the two weekends have a pretty similar schedule. Much to festival-goers’ disappointment, there are some tough clashes to choose from. Overall, though, I think it looks better than last year’s great lineup.

Pick and plan your (dream) schedule from the set times announced on their official website. Some of the tough clashes include Jimmy Eat World/Smith

Passion Pit Release Remix To Portugal. The Man’s “Purple Yellow Red & Blue”

Portugal. The Man‘s Evil Friends album has been out for a month, but “Purple Yellow Red & Blue” has already received an impressive remix treatment by Passion Pit. Featuring electric drums and sparkly synths, the remix seems to be more centered around the instrumental aspect of the song, making for a completely different listening experience altogether.

So what we really want to know is which one do YOU like more? Watch the music video to the original and stream the remix by following the jump, and tell us what you think in the comments below.
