“Hunger Games” Earns $155 Million, Shatters Box Office Records

We all knew The Hunger Games would be big, but I do not think anyone could have predicted just how successful it would become.

In only three days (and some midnight showings), early estimates from Lionsgate report that The Hunger Games has earned an amazing $155 million domestically. The film, which is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Suzanne Collins, now has the third-highest opening weekend ever, behind Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The Dark Knight. Lady Gaga to open the 2011 MTV VMAs

Lady Gaga, who is up for four VMAs this year, will be delivering the show’s opening performance.

Gaga delivered the news by allowing fans to unveil a banner in New York’s Times Square.

“It means the world to me,” Gaga said of her plans for the VMAs. “I just feel really blessed every day. I have the most amazing fans.”

Superman Returns was much less eventful than the title lead moviegoers to believe. Though it cost hundreds of millions, Brett Ratner simply couldn’t capture the world of Clark Kent in a way audiences connected with and it ultimately lead for the film to be as empty as the grand canyon.
