The Swellers 2013

The Swellers Release B-Sides Collection

The Swellers have been going strong for more than a decade, producing five full-lengths and a slew of EPs in the process. In that time, quite a bit of material has ended up on the cutting room floor, and now you can hear some choice cuts from the Swellers’ vault on B-Sides and Rarities. The seventeen-track collection is available now on the Michigan-based group’s Bandcamp page for only five dollars.

Highlights from B-Sides and Rarities include an unreleased track from the Good For Me sessions called “Break,” an acoustic demo of “Possibilities” from the early stages of writing The

Lee Corey Oswald Sign To No Sleep Records

Portland, Oregon punks Lee Corey Oswald are moving up in the world. The quartet announced this morning that they have signed to No Sleep Records, and the California-based label will release the group’s next full-length later this year.

If you want to get familiar with Lee Corey Oswald’s brand of gruff, emotional punk rock, pick up a copy of their 2013 split with Three Man Cannon right here and check out the rest of their discography on Bandcamp.

Lee Corey Oswald recently wrapped up a tour with Boston’s Choke Up, but you’ll certainly have more opportunities to catch their …

WEEKLY WAX: Vinyl Releases For The Week Of 3/30-4/5

Welcome to this week’s edition of Weekly Wax!

The most exciting release of the last seven days is one that nobody saw coming. Copeland might have launched a painfully long pre-order for Ixora, but the wait will certainly be worth it, and you can still pick up a copy on black or white vinyl.

If you’ve yet to grab a copy of The Format‘s excellent and recently reissued Dog Problems, now is the time. The band posted copies with misprinted etchings (no effect on sound quality) for only $5, with the proceeds going to charity.

Those are …

Manchester Orchestra, Minus The Bear Debut Two Tracks To Accompany Forthcoming Photo Book

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably already well aware that, earlier this week, Manchester Orchestra released what is arguably the best record of 2014 so far. Cope is already being hailed as the group’s most solid effort to date, but if you still had any doubt as to the Birmingham outfit’s ability, then I highly suggest you check out “Sure Shot,” a previously unreleased track that found its way online this morning. Give it a listen by heading over to Fuse.

Additionally, this newest offering debuted alongside an equally enjoyable Minus The Bear B-side called “Surf-n-Turf,” …

Rescuer Announce ‘Anxiety Answering,’ Stream New Song

One of the more recent additions to the No Sleep Records family, Rescuer, will release a new full-length called Anxiety Answering on June 3. For the new LP, the Tampa, Florida group have refined their take on hardcore and screamo into a dynamic, forceful sound that should appeal to fans of Touche Amore and labelmates State Faults. You can get your first taste of Anxiety Answering right now over at Brooklyn Vegan, where you’ll find the album’s first single, “Out of Focus.”

Anxiety Answering was produced by Comadre guitarist Jack Shirley, who you might know from his work …

Major League Begin Work On New Record With Will Yip

It will take much more than a lineup change to stop Major League. The New Jersey pop punk band parted ways with longtime vocalist Nick Trask earlier this year, but they have already completed their first tour with guitarist Brian Joyce in his new role as frontman, and now they are diving into their next record. The group is in the process of recording their second No Sleep Records release at Conshohocken, Pennsylvania’s Studio 4 with producer Will Yip, who has become a household name over the past few years for his work with Balance and Composure, Polar Bear …

WEEKLY WAX: Vinyl Releases For The Week Of 2/23-2/29

Record Store Day is getting closer and closer, with new releases being announced nearly every day, but you don’t have to wait until April 19 or stand in a long line to buy most of the records featured in this edition of Weekly Wax. The highlights include the first in a series of Oasis reissues, a pair of new Live At Third Man Records sessions (by Divine Fits and Mudhoney), and pre-orders for new albums from Animals As Leaders, Frameworks, and many more.

As always, the full roundup of this week’s vinyl news is below, so give …

Daisyhead And Have Mercy Stream Split EP

No Sleep Records has long since established itself as one of the premiere record labels in underground music, and its second release of 2014, a split EP featuring Maryland emo quartet Have Mercy and Tennessee rockers Daisyhead, only serves to bolster the label’s already impressive catalog. Both bands contributed two new songs to the split, which you can stream over at AbsolutePunk.

Have Mercy’s side of the split picks up right where their 2013 LP, The Earth Pushed Back, left off, offering more of the deeply personal lyrics and excellent musicianship that have defined the group’s sound …

WEEKLY WAX: Vinyl Releases For The Week Of 2/16-2/22

I don’t know what you’ve been listening to this week, but on the rare occasions when I wasn’t playing The Hotelier‘s excellent new album, I was alternating between the new Menzingers single and “I Wanna Get Better,” the first song from Fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff’s new project, Bleachers. Conveniently (or not, if you ask my wallet), all three of those artists launched pre-orders for new material this week, and they weren’t alone. The last seven days also saw pre-orders for Oh, Common Life, the third album from Michigan pop punk band Fireworks and probably the most …

Hundredth Release New Song, ‘Resist’ Out March 25

Last spring, South Carolina natives Hundredth released Revolt, the first of a two-part series of EPs. Part two, titled Resist, is set to hit stores on March 25, and you can stream a brand new song from the effort after the break.

“Demons” continues Hundredth’s streak of intense, melodic hardcore with hints of technical guitar and drum parts. In other words, if you like what they’ve been doing so far, this one should be right up your alley. However, the rest of the EP might offer some surprises. According to vocalist Chadwick Johnson, “Resist is much more …

REVIEW: Adventures / Run Forever 7″ Split

Artist: Adventures / Run Forever
Album: Adventures / Run Forever Split
Genre: Indie Rock
Label: No Sleep Records

There seems to be a trend in indie music lately, one that consists of turning down the vocals, while turning up the fuzz, and I am all for it. Clean sounding records are overrated anyway — life isn’t always clean. Much like the states of minds we find ourselves in when turning to music for help, our thinking may not be clear, so why our music? It is a muddled path we pave, and to fully understand and experience those roads, it …
