New Year’s Eve

Michael Stipe

R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe Played a Surprise Set in NYC, Covered Perfume Genius and Frank Sinatra

R.E.M. broke up in 2011. It was a sad time, the end of a profound musical reign, but somewhat deserved since the band worked so hard for decades. Earlier this week, though, frontman Michael Stipe returned to the stage and performed in concert much to the surprise of those in the audience.

On Monday night, Stipe was the unannounced opening act for Patti Smith at New York’s Webster Hall. While his set was only six songs long, he squeezed in R.E.M.’s “Saturn Return” and “New Test Leper,” a cover of Vic Chesnutt’s “Lucinda Williams,” Patti Smith’s “Wing,” Perfume Genius’ “Hood,” …

Ring in 2015 With MØ’s New Song “New Years Eve”

Danish pop singer Karen Marie Ørsted donned the moniker and has turned 2014 into her shining year. With her gorgeous debut LP No Mythologies To Follow and several jaw-dropping sets at festivals, she began hiking her way up the charts as a star. Today, she raises her glass to the last 12 months in a beautiful, emotive new song titled “New Years Eve.”

The mellow number draws several comparisons to Lykke Li thanks to somber drawls and melancholic piano. As she traces issues from this year, Ørsted looks to the future with hopes to forget the difficulties that clouded …

Hear Vampire Weekend’s “Step” Remix Featuring Danny Brown, Heems, Despot

Almost in an effort to have the last say of 2013, Vampire Weekend took to Twitter last night to share a “wintertime remix” of “Step” with verses from Danny Brown, Despot, and Heems. Download it below.

The four piece band had quite a year, topping nearly every “Best of” list from 2013 with this year’s great Modern Vampires of the City. They roped in a ton of celebrities for their “Diane Young” music video, sang a hilarious cover of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” and saw their own material covered quite a few times in return. When sharing the remix …

UTG TV: Janelle Monáe Talks ‘The Electric Lady’ And New Year’s Eve Performance

Ladies and gentlemen, here she is. Billboard’s Rising Star of 2013.

In 2010, Janelle Monáe reinvented pop music with her debut release The ArchAndroid. This year she returned to the forefront with The Electric Lady– a multi-suite album centered around empowering female protagonists–that wound up topping numerous radio charts and end-of-year lists. It wasn’t long before she won Billboard’s Rising Star of 2013, an award previously given to Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.

Before ringing in the new year by performing as the headliner at the 25th Annual Peach Drop in Atlanta for the “Year of the Peanut” with …

STAY HOME: 5 Netflix Picks For New Year’s Eve

There was a time not that long ago when anyone seeking an exciting New Year’s Eve needed to make reservations weeks in advance or hope someone other than themselves would host a party (no one wants clean-up duty). Thankfully, we now live in the age of the internet, and anyone with $10 to spare can access enough entertainment from the comfort of their own home to last a dozen lifetimes. The biggest problem most face is which feature to spend their time with, which is what inspired the birth of this list.

Netflix has added some great content in recent …

STREAM/DOWNLOAD: Rich Boy – “Glasses In The Air”

Rich Boy has been trying to reconnect with his long-lost fan base ever since the failed attempts of new material over the past two years.

Under The Gun has the brand new stream and download of Rich Boy’s song “Glasses In The Air”, which will come off of his forthcoming mixtape Back To Class. Watch out for this release to hit our iTunes on New Years Eve.

We are surprised that “Glasses In The Air” is so slow (based on the club-banging title) and offers nothing more than the artist spitting a few uninspired verses. Hopefully Rich Boy gets …

Weekend Box Office Results (Jan. 6-8)

This weekend saw only one new wide release (The Devil Inside). After a few weeks at the top of the world it looks like something finally bumped Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol out of the top spot, even if it was one of the worst reviewed horror films of the last year. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo hangs in the middle of the pack yet another week, and somehow New Year’s Eve still manages to cling to life in the top 10. See the top movies and what they made this weekend after the jump.
