Wand Ganglion Reef

Listen to Wand’s New Single “Broken Candle”

Psych rock band Wand caught our attention and warranted a “Required Listening” label after dropping “Flying Golem” last month. Now the Los Angeles four-piece are back with a new track that’s keeping our brain in the exact type of acid-washed cabin we want to get cozy inside of.

“Broken Candle” sees Wand toying with tempo. With the same type of reverb and electronic tunnels as Tame Impala, it’s easy to feel like you’re traveling back to some of psychedelics best times in the mid-60s, but they keep things fresh with the sweetness of this year. Stream …

Foxygen And Star Power

Foxygen Announce New Album, Tour, Share “How Can You Really” Music Video

Last year saw constant back-and-forth press releases about LA retro pop duo Foxygen supposedly breaking up. Here we are in 2014, and not only are the band back together, but they’ve announced a new full-length, …And Star Power, out October 14 via Jagjaguwar. The album has a whopping 24 tracks and sees contributions from “a gaggle of guest stars.” According to the press release, it was recorded on a tape machine at the infamous Chateau Marmont and is filled with “psych-ward folk, cartoon fantasia, soft-rock indulgences, D&D doom rock, and paranoid bathroom rompers.” Take that as you will.

In lead …

JJ Dean and Me

Listen to JJ’s Beautiful New Single “Dean & Me”

It’s been three months since we first got word of Swedish duo JJ’s new album, VSince then, we’ve seen one glitter-filled teaser video, a haunting single that gave us goosebumps, and a tracklist outlining the intimate titles of songs we have yet to hear. Today, Joakim Benon and Elin Kastlander return to share a new synth pop track that pairs well with the last of July’s sunny rays: “Dean & Me.”

Club beats and skittering cymbal taps outline the soaring new single as JJ’s melodic chorus of “oohs” raises us back up from the emotional well …

Meatbodies

Listen to Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin Member’s New Band Meatbodies

Back when Ty Segall was touring in his new band FUZZ and Mikal Cronin made a critically-acclaimed solo debut, Chad Ubovich was playing guitar and bass behind both psych rock gods. Between tours, Ubovich spent his time recording his own crunchy fuzz as Chad and the Meatbodies. With a little help from Segall, he’s now gone on to be picked up by label In The Red and will be releasing his self-titled debut as the renamed Meatbodies.

The 12-track debut was recorded with Eric Bauer (Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, White Fence) and saw friends Cory Hanson of Wand and …

Greylag

Listen to Greylag’s Beautiful Folk Single “Another”

Portland trio Greylag have the rustic charm and sweet folk rock of a band whose music will break the grip of fall and see itself played year-round. Their self-titled debut comes out October 14 via Dead Oceans. We suggest pre-ordering it now, especially after you give opening track “Another” a listen after the jump.

It’s been a while since we’ve been this excited over an Americana band. With producer Phil Ek behind the board, the similarities to Fleet Foxes and The Shins are obvious, but even moreso given their songwriting abilities. Roots get a rhythmic stomping in “Another” with guitar …

Hear Sufjan Stevens Cover Arthur Russell’s “A Little Lost”

For years, Red Hot Organization has been putting out incredibly stacked compilations with the proceeds going to AIDS research. Fittingly, their newest record is a tribute to musical mastermind Arthur Russell, who passed away from AIDS in 1992. The tribute compilation, titled Master Mix: Red Hot + Arthur Russell, is out October 21 via Yep Roc with covers by Robyn, Hot Chip, Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry, Scissor Sisters, Cults, Blood Orange, Phosphorescent, Jose Gonzalez, and more.

Perhaps the biggest name on the list, Sufjan Stevens, gets to cover perhaps the biggest song on the list, Russell’s 1994 track …

Radical Something Offer A Fresh Take On West Coast Pop Rock With “Cali Get Down”

I hope you’re ready to dance.

Some Tuesdays feel a lot like second Mondays, but thanks to music it’s possible to turn even the most wretched of days around in a matter of minutes. This morning, an up-and-coming band from California had that impact on our offices when they delivered a single titled “Cali Get Down.”

Radical Something are a fittingly named band featuring three guys who do not strike you as the kind of men that would create music that one staffer described as “club punk.” To be fair, another one said “West Coast bro pop rock.” Regardless, their …

FKA Twigs

Listen to FKA Twigs’ New Song “Video Girl”

After a lot of online buzz and some well-deserved hype, British experimental R&B artist FKA Twigs has three weeks left until her debut album, LP1, drops August 12 via Young Turks. In anticipation, she’s shared the second track off the record, “Video Girl,” which you can stream below.

Unlike the sultriness of “Two Weeks” and the hard-hitting specifics of “Hide,” the new single sees trip-hop and guitar strums intertwined as FKA Twigs once again brings pained words to life with her golden croon. In an interview with Pitchfork, she said the song was written after …

Mega Bog

Mega Bog Announce Debut Album ‘Gone Banana,’ Stream “Year of Patience”

After 5 years of self-released material and re-writing songs, Mega Bog are finally ready to share their debut album. Titled Gone Banana, the album drops September 23 via Couple Skate and showcases the group’s lo-fi jazz rock sound. Finally, a band you and your dad can agree on.

With Kevin Ayers and Steely Dan influences, the band have traces of psychedelia and mall jazz in their songs while keeping the songwriting core tender. Lead single “Year of Patience” introduces the band nicely with a strutting saxophone line and Erin Birgy’s coy vocals, taking on the sounds of Ariel Pink, Prefab …

Hear Wildcat! Wildcat!’s New Single “Holloway (Hey, Love)”

Los Angeles trio Wildcat! Wildcat! recently recorded their full-length debut, No Moon at All, set to come out on August 5 via Downtown Records. Co-produced with collaborator Morgan Kibby (M83, White Sea), the record sees the electronic indie pop group creating “an emotionally rousing world” all of which is captured on ten tracks. We’ve already heard the lead single “Hero,” and today we get to hear “Holloway (Hey, Love).”

The new song is a bright blend of reverb drums, thin layers of synth, and harmonies worth singing with friends that maintains an intimacy throughout. Give it a …

Kanye West Announces New Single “All Day,” Explains Why Jay Z and Beyonce Missed His Wedding

GQ magazine’s latest issue stars none other than Kanye West and his cover story is an extensive interview that delves into new music, his wedding, and what he thinks of Drake (“Let’s be honest—he got last summer.”). The most exciting bit of the interview is that Kanye does announce he has a new single on the way titled “All Day” that will drop in “the next couple of weeks.” According to Kanye, it’s a club song (like “Don’t Like” or “Niggas in Paris”). As for the album, it’s coming in “most likely September.”
