STREAM/DOWNLOAD: Toasted Plastic – ‘June Highs’ (Album)

Toasted Plastic are an up and coming emo/math rock band from New Jersey working largely on the DIY circuit. (Their booking information even says “We will try to play any show.”) The weird rockers have released a full length today called June Highs on the new Bandcamp. It isn’t the band’s first album, but it is their first release in two years, as Ares Vallis came out in November 2011.

It’s unknown as to whether this will get a physical release. That said, everyone interested in modern emo or math rock should check out this killer record. Stream …

Legendary New Jersey Venue Maxwell’s To Close In July

A true rock institution is set to close at the end of July, and the decision is not what anyone had planned.

According to a new article on NJ.Com, the lease to Maxwell’s will be completed at the end of July. Todd Abramson, the club’s booking agent and co-owner, explained the tough decision to close by explaining the terms offered to the club for lease renewal would have put the business in a tough place.

“We were offered a renewal with rates that weren’t necessarily onerous,” says Abramson, “But after much thought, given the changing nature of Hoboken and …

UTG PHOTOS: Skate & Surf Day Two (5/19/13)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Corbin Alvae, to New Jersey for Skate & Surf Festival at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Day Two…Once again, what a line-up! This time around I don’t have a funny story (sad, I know) but it did do one thing…RAIN! Like Day One, it was on and off, but wasn’t too bad. Anyways! I kicked Day Two off with Ohio metal band, Dangerkids. Holy shit! I heard some buzz about them, ended up checking out their music online, really impressed!

UTG PHOTOS: Skate & Surf Day One (5/18/13)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Corbin Alvae, to New Jersey for Skate & Surf Festival at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Skate And Surf Festival: DAY ONE. Where to start?! First off, before I get into my Day One coverage, here’s a quick little story:

When I decided that I was interested in covering the festival, which was about 2 months prior to the actual date, I was beyond excited to travel to New Jersey, for one reason: WARM WEATHER. Michigan weather is on and off and for me — that usually never goes too well, and frankly, it grinds my …

WATCH: Senses Fail Retire “187″ In New Jersey

After announcing its end on Friday, Senses Fail kept their promise and officially retired their longtime fan favorite “187″ at the Stone Pony in New Jersey last night. We weren’t there, but several diligent SF fans were, and they were kind enough to capture the song’s final bow for the rest of us to enjoy.

I don’t know where I was the first time I heard “187,” but I do remember feeling like vocalist Buddy Nielsen completely understood my broken fifteen-year-old heart. Since that time, “187″ has become one of the quintessential tracks from the “early days of the …

REVIEW: Streetlight Manifesto – The Hands That Thieve

Artist: Streetlight Manifesto
Album: The Hands That Thieve
Genre: Ska

Ska music has a bad rep these days. It’s gotten to a point where people consider it lame when you say that you’re listening to ska, like you’re some sort of leper who listens to Top 40 radio. “Skas Dead!” they all say. While yes, some ska is kinda lame, ska that is done well is some of the most exciting music you can hope to hear. Saying you love Streetlight Manifesto is basically cliché at this point in the game, but I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because they’re …

WATCH: Major League Perform Acoustic Set Outside After Show Shut Down

Pop/punk band Major League seemed to be on the upside with their new record and a successful cover of Foo Fighter’s “Everlong”. Last night, they were supposed to have a record release party in Freehold, New Jersey for Hard Feelings. The show was shut down by police; some are reporting that it was because of fighting, others have said it was just because of moshing. In guitarist Matt Chila’s own words, it was “shut down for moshing then some prick almost got his ass kicked cause he was starting shit with Brian forcing him to stop playn
