Wand Ganglion Reef

Stream Wand’s Excellent Debut Album ‘Ganglion Reef’

LA-based four-piece Wand drop their garage rock debut, Ganglion Reef, next week via God? Records. The highly-anticipated release sees Cory Hanson (vocals, guitar, synth), Evan Burrows (drums), Daniel Martens (guitar), and Lee Landey (bass) burning a hole in the sun and letting their trippy pop songs sizzle out due to the heat of a band who’s truly on fire. To tease the release, they’re streaming the album in full over at Hype Machine.

We were caught off guard by their psychedelic lead single “Flying Golem” and again by the slow roll of “Broken Candle.” …

Ultimate Painting

Ultimate Painting’s Debut Single Is Your End of Summer Jam

We’re pretty sure we just found the only good thing about summer ending: a new single to soundtrack your final sunsets. Indie rock duo Ultimate Painting are putting out their self-titled debut on October 28 via Trouble In Mind, and lead single “Winter In Your Heart” is what we need right now.

If their voices sound familiar, that’s because Ultimate Painting is Jack Cooper from Mazes and James Hoare from Veronica Falls. The self-titled debut was recorded on tape in Hoare’s flat over the course of a few months, aiming to capture the beautiful simplicity of Ray Davies, early-70s New …

They’ve been promising the release for some time and it looks like they’ll be delivering on that promise.

Fortunately for us, the album’s first single, previously teased “Blockbuster Night Pt. 1,” is now streaming on SoundCloud, so follow the jump …

american hi-fi

American Hi-Fi Premiere “Golden State” Music Video

American Hi-Fi is back! Although, more accurately, they never really left. Most people probably remember that back in 2001, American Hi-Fi released one of the most well-known songs of a generation. “Flavor of the Week,” was such a smash hit that you’ve probably starting singing it in your head already just since reading this post.

Through some less than well-received albums, the band has hung to their roots, and done their damndest not to be labeled as a one hit wonder. Unfortunately, after their 2003 release, The Art of Losing, the guys were let go by Island Def Jam

Mega Bog

Stream Mega Bog’s New Single “Cologne In The Night”

We were first introduced to Mega Bog with their brazen track “Year of Patience” after they announced their debut album, Gone Bananawould be out September 23 via Couple Skate. Now the lo-fi jazz rock group are ready to share a little more off the release, this time sharing “Cologne In The Night.”

A slow number that plays up the evening’s sultriness, “Cologne In The Night” sees Mega Bog seizing bathroom acoustics for a saxophone strut reminiscent of the ’80s. Frontwoman Erin Birgy sings with a pained tone that strikes with heartbroken familiarity, too. It’s dark, spacious, …

Ty Segall Manipulator

ALBUM STREAM: Ty Segall – ‘Manipulator’

The god of garage rock is back. After a rousing performance on Conan last week, Ty Segall is now prepped and ready to share his whole album with the world. In anticipation of its release, he’s streaming Manipulator in full before it comes out August 26 via Drag City.

Instead of whipping out an album’s worth of songs in two days, Segall took his time in studio with producer Chris Woodhouse (Thee Oh Sees, !!!, Wild Flag) this time around. He’s decided to keep the 1000 lbs. of fuzz that plod around his songs, but pile on orchestration, strings, and …

Kanye West Paul MCCartney

Kanye West and Paul McCartney Are Recording a Song Called “Piss on My Grave”

It won’t be long until Kanye West shares his next full-length and, as such, the details keep rolling out. According to Page Six, it looks like Paul McCartney may have a hand in the new music.

The two have supposedly recorded a number of new tracks together which “could develop into an album,” one of which is called “Piss on My Grave.” It seems too ridiculous to be a true, but a clip of the song has surfaced online, making it seem a little more likely. Listen to that preview after the jump.

Then again, McCartney has expressed his …

aphex Twin SYRO

Aphex Twin Announces First Album in 13 Years

Richard D James, aka Aphex Twin, has announced his first album in 13 years, SYRO. The follow-up to 2001′s Drunkqs (or 1994-via-2014′s Caustic Window if you want to count the Kickstarter-funded release) has been secretly advertised the past few days with Aphex Twin’s logo appearing on a neon green blimp flying above south London and stenciled on pavement at various locations in New York City.

Aphex Twin being Aphex Twin decided to make the announcement in the most Aphex Twin of ways. At 4 PM today, James tweeted a link that was solely accessible through Tor, a browser designed …

It’s essentially the perfect tour for anyone who reads UTG, and it’s hitting many cities between Boston and Michigan in late October. The full list of dates are as …

Taylor Swift shake it off

Taylor Swift Announces New Album ’1989′ And The Lead Single Is Pretty…Different

At long last, Taylor Swift has announced her long-awaited new album and shared the first single. She hosted a very anticipated live stream on Yahoo today where she announced the album, titled 1989 (the year she was born), comes out October 27. Surprisingly, lead single “Shake It Off” features some snappy electronic production, deep baritone saxophone, and Swift laying down some real-talk rapping reminiscent of Avril Lavigne.

The music video for “Shake It Off” shows Swift pretty much responding to all the naysayers from over the years. For those who think she’s a cookie cutter country pop star, watch her …

action bronson

Action Bronson Cruises In “Easy Rider” Trailer

Making our staff an excited bunch, Action Bronson officially put the hype machine into motion for his forthcoming debut full-length, Mr. Wonderful, earlier this month with the release of its first single, “Easy Rider.” Featuring psychedelic instrumentals best fit for an acid trip circa 1970, the track’s experimental nature is a prime example of Bronson’s genre-hopping nature at its finest, so it only makes sense that a music video would be in store to accompany the cut.

Rather than making us wait cold turkey until August 20, though, Bronsolino has dropped a teaser for the campy visuals in store. …
