When 2012 was coming to a close I distinctly remember the majority of alternative music critics commenting that the year had been ‘something special.’ As 2013 begins to wind down I have found the same thing being said from the same people, and I think I too have to agree. For reasons entirely my own, this year offered a diverse selection of fantastic music, with countless releases possessing the power to change lives. I thought long and hard about the releases that made the following lists, but in the interest of brevity decided to only write at length about the …

Mixtapes released their third full-length, Ordinary Silence, on No Sleep Records in June of this year. It’s a stellar pop punk record that you just might see on a couple end-of-the-year lists in the coming weeks. Today, the band released a documentary about the making of the album. It features interviews and footage of the recording process at Moonlight Studios in their native Ohio.
Mixtapes also announced earlier this week that they will be playing the entirety of the 2014 Vans Warped Tour. Buy tickets for the tour right here, and check out the half-hour long documentary after …
It’s not even the new year yet, and 2014 music festivals are already stacking up. Not too long ago the tour routing for Vans Warped Tour was announced, and now the first five bands have been revealed. If none of the bands listed below were bands you wanted to see, then have no fear! There is plenty of time left for more bands to be announced, so be sure to check in again soon.

Do you remember being about 13 or 14, possibly brand new (or even a seasoned appreciator) to the world of rock and pop punk, feeling bright and positive and enthusiastic and gloriously attuned to the future? That’s what listening to Mixtapes feels like. A nostalgia fest. Given I spent this past weekend being swallowed up by increasingly aghast realisations as to how long it’s been since, say, Roadrunner United happened (tl;dr version: I’m old), Ordinary Silence is both exceedingly well-timed and exceedingly welcome. It’ll come as no surprise to …

Soundsupply is selling a digital bundle of ten albums from various bands on this year’s edition of Vans Warped Tour for only $15 until June 16.
For those not familiar with Soundsupply, here’s how it works: every week, a bundle of five or ten albums is solid for $10 or $15 respectively with full approval from the involved labels and/or artists. Thus, the site provides a legal way for fans to save a ton of money while possibly exposing them to other music they may not have heard without purchasing the bundle.
