Mixtapes Release Gigantic Compilation Of Rarities, B-Sides, Non-Album Tracks

Mixtapes has always been a favorite around here at UTG, so it broke our hearts last year when the band announced that they’d be calling it quits. Today, the band has released These Are Us, an enormous collection of twenty-three songs from splits, b-sides, rarities, and non-album tracks that almost fill the Mixtapes-sized hole in our hearts.

There are quite a few songs here that don’t surpass the sixty-second mark and were clearly recorded as jokes – look no further than “Chicka Chicka Chicka Chicka Chicka” which features a pitch-corrected Ryan Rockwell singing about a dance, seemingly off the …

Mixtapes To Go On Hiatus Following Fest ’13

According to a post made earlier today on Mixtapes‘ official Facebook page, the Cincinnati foursome will soon be taking a break from music. UTG PHOTOS: Bayside & Four Year Strong (4/4/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to Best Buy Theater in New York City to photograph The Great American Cult Tour on April 4, 2014.

Bayside just wrapped up the end of their headlining Great American Cult Tour. Along for the ride were Four Year Strong, Daylight (who’ve since changed their name to Superheaven) and Mixtapes. If you didn’t get a chance to make it out to one of the shows, have no fear, because three out of four of them will be on this summer’s Warped Tour. To catch Superheaven, you can see their …

LIVE REVIEW: The Great American Cult Tour – Cleveland, OH 3/5/14 (Photos)

Opening night of the Great American Cult Tour took place in Cleveland, OH last week. As Bayside’s first headlining tour in some time, I was prepared for a fantastic show. I wasn’t disappointed.

I asked local photographer Andy Wells to accompany me and his pictures from the show can be found below.

The lineup: Ohio’s own pop-punk quartet Mixtapes, Post-Grunge standouts Daylight, returning champs Four Year Strong, and then Bayside themselves.…

John Bazley Best of 2013

John Bazley’s ‘Best of 2013′ In Music

Looking over the list I’ve penned as my personal ‘Best of 2013 in Music,’ I can’t help but smile. I remember sitting in class around this time last year, scratching down a list on loose leaf of my ‘Most Anticipated of 2013;’ to see how few of those records made my end of the year list is refreshing. Three out of my top ten are debut full-lengths, four are from artists I hadn’t listened to before this year, and one is from a label that established itself in 2013. The discovery and rising popularity of artists I’ve come to love …

Troy Sennett’s ‘Best of 2013′ In Music

Let’s talk about moments.

Around 5:00 PM on June 8, 2013, I watched Spitalfield play “Stolen From Some Great Writer” to an empty theater. This was a band I never thought I would have the chance to see live soundchecking for a ten-year anniversary performance of Remember Right Now, a record that had a huge impact on me as a musician and as a person in my early teens. It was intensely personal and universal at the same time, one of those moments that made me feel like a part of something bigger than myself while also acting as …

James Shotwell’s ‘Best Of 2013′ In Music

When 2012 was coming to a close I distinctly remember the majority of alternative music critics commenting that the year had been ‘something special.’ As 2013 begins to wind down I have found the same thing being said from the same people, and I think I too have to agree. For reasons entirely my own, this year offered a diverse selection of fantastic music, with countless releases possessing the power to change lives. I thought long and hard about the releases that made the following lists, but in the interest of brevity decided to only write at length about the …
