OM Announce Fall Tour Dates

Last we heard from experimental drone metal band OM, they were touring in support of their excellent fifth album, Advaitic Songs, in 2012. The Drag City release saw them growling their best behind a wave of black shirts and deadpan stares like they do best. Now the trio will be hitting the road again for a short US tour this fall, presumably covering a range of their material.

Their dates kick off in Boston on October 2 at The Sinclair and see them traveling through New England all the way to Minneapolis and Kentucky in a little over a …

TWO-MINUTE NECK WORKOUT: Darkest Hour Release “Rapture in Exile”

Two weeks ago, D.C. modern thrash veterans Darkest Hour offered “Wasteland,” the first official taste of new music from their upcoming self-titled album. Today, we get our second helping of new Darkest Hour in the form of “Rapture in Exile.”

The band has premiered the track in the form of a music video that captures the band tearing up the stage during their current run on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Fast, melodic and heavy, the two-minute shredder is classic Darkest Hour and features John Henry’s massive “Fuck Waiting Around to Die” vocal that has been at the forefront …

Supporting Slipknot will be a massive and impressive lineup of heavy acts, featuring everyone from Danzig, Killswitch Engage and the recently reunited Atreyu to Tech N9ne and death metal legends Carcass. From top to bottom, it’s about as good a mainstream metal/hard rock lineup you’re likely to …

METALHEADS REJOICE: Darkest Hour Share New Track “Wasteland”

For the last 15 years, D.C. modern thrash masters Darkest Hour have been perhaps the most consistent thing in metal. Trends, whether it be metalcore, deathcore or djent continue coming along, band members come and go, but Darkest Hour just keep sounding like Darkest Hour.

And finally, after releasing a teaser last week, Darkest Hour have premiered the first song from their Sumerian Records debut and first album since 2011′s The Human Romance. The song is titled “Wasteland,” and its lyric video can be viewed below. The band has also confirmed the new album, slated for August 5, will …

REVIEW: Mastodon – ‘Once More ‘Round The Sun’

Artist: Mastodon
Album: Once More ‘Round the Sun
Genre: Metal
Label: Reprise

Six albums into their career, it’s almost as if Mastodon have created their own subgenre. No two albums are alike, but each one of them is unmistakably Mastodon, a sound that continues to evolve on their latest release, Once More ‘Round the Sun.

Mastodon’s 2011 release, The Hunter, was probably the most divisive of the band’s career. While still undeniably metal, the album brought the psychedelic elements the band toyed with on previous releases to the forefront, while delivering a single (“Curl of the Burl”) that, …

Listen To Betraying The Martyrs’ New Single, “Jigsaw”

Betraying The Martyrs‘ new album, Phantom, is coming out next month via Sumerian Records. It’s official release date is July 15, which now is just a little less than a month away. The first single from the record received mixed reviews, and now the group has unleashed another song for fans to check out. The single is titled “Jigsaw,” and you can give it a listen by clicking “Read More.”

The band’s sound has transformed over the years, and judging by the two singles released so far, Phantom will certainly not be a repeat of their last album. …

Watch Mastodon’s Epic Music Video For “High Road”

Say what you will about it, but metal is a pretty geeky – yet still relatively awesome – genre of music. Mastodon fully embrace this idea with their new music video to “High Road,” which comes off of their upcoming album Once More ‘Round The Sun, slated for release on June 24. Featuring the age-old tale of geeks versus bullies, with the themes of LARPing and family values set in the background (along with a kick ass new song from Mastodon, mind you), this video demands your attention this Wednesday afternoon. Besides, do you really think you’ll find anything …

LISTEN: Mastodon Debut “Chimes At Midnight”

Mastodon have premiered their new track “Chimes At Midnight,” the second single from their upcoming album Once More ‘Round The Sun. The album hits stores on June 24 and is currently available for pre-order through the band’s official site.

The track finds a balance between some ferocious Leviathan-esque riffing and those psychedelic space-rock passages so prevalent on The Hunter, which bodes well for the album after the solid, yet radio-ready first single “High Road.” Click through for the stream. …

Sleep Announce August U.S. Tour Dates

Seminal stoner/doom metal band Sleep has announced a handful of August U.S. tour dates. The group was initially active throughout the 1990s before calling it quits in 1998 amidst a label dispute surrounding the release of their one-track, 63-minute opus Dopesmoker.

Guitarist Matt Pike would form High on Fire in the band’s wake, while vocalist/bassist Al Cisneros would later move forward in experimental metal group Om. Sleep has performed intermittently since playing their first reunion show in 2009, enlisting the services of Jason Roeder (Neurosis) after original drummer Chris Hakius retired from music in 2010.

All that said, Sleep …

Opeth Pale Communion

Opeth Announce New Album, Stream “Cusp of Eternity”

On August 26, Swedish metal band Opeth will drop a new studio album titled Pale Communion via Roadrunner Records. The eight-track release is their eleventh studio album. With frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt producing and Porcupine Tree guitarist Steven Wilson mixing, it should see the band’s sound expanding into more psych and prog influences as their last release, 2011′s Heritage, did. As the press release notes, it will have very little “growls or death metal vocals.”

“I wanted to do something more melodic with this album. There’s stronger vocal melodies and more melodies overall,” Åkerfeldt said of the release. “I was pretty …
