Legend Of The Seagullman

Members Of Mastodon And Tool Form New Supergroup

Supergroups are a great way for musicians to branch out and try new musical techniques they might not be able to get away with in their full-time band. The latest group to pop up out of the music industry is named Legend Of The Seagullmen. The group is made up of members from Mastodon, Tool and OFF!. Below is a brief description of the concept behind the name.

“The Legend of the Seagullmen is the name of a wacky nautical-themed supergroup featuring Mastodon frontman Brent Hinds and Tool drummer Danny Carey, as well as OFF!’s Dimitri Coats …

Mastodon Bring in Twerking Dancers for “The Motherload” Video

If you thought Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” video had an overload of butt shaking, think again. Metal gurus Mastodon have just shared a new video for “The Motherload” from Once More ‘Round The Sun and it’s giving Minaj’s video a run for its money.

The video sees men in cloaks and women in minimal clothing taking over the floor to see who has the best dance moves. We’re all for friendly competition, but seeing the band perform next to close-up shots of the women feels a little too over-sexualized. It’s part of Minaj’s shtick — but is it part of theirs? …

Mastodon And Gibby Haynes Unite In “Atlanta”

Mastodon stream new song featuring Gibby Haynes titled "Atlanta."

REVIEW: Mastodon – ‘Once More ‘Round The Sun’

Artist: Mastodon
Album: Once More ‘Round the Sun
Genre: Metal
Label: Reprise

Six albums into their career, it’s almost as if Mastodon have created their own subgenre. No two albums are alike, but each one of them is unmistakably Mastodon, a sound that continues to evolve on their latest release, Once More ‘Round the Sun.

Mastodon’s 2011 release, The Hunter, was probably the most divisive of the band’s career. While still undeniably metal, the album brought the psychedelic elements the band toyed with on previous releases to the forefront, while delivering a single (“Curl of the Burl”) that, …

ALBUM STREAM: Mastodon – ‘Once More ‘Round The Sun’

Progressive metal goliaths Mastodon are now streaming their forthcoming sixth full-length, Once More ‘Round the Sun, in its entirety exclusively on iTunes.

Our staff is loving every second of the record up to this point as it seems to blend all of Mastodon’s strengths into one cohesive beast, so if you feel the same after giving it a digital spin, be sure to head to your local record shop and pick up a copy when it drops June 24 via Relapse Records. If you can’t stand to wait til’ then, though,  pre-order packages are still available on Mastodon’s …

Watch Mastodon’s Epic Music Video For “High Road”

Say what you will about it, but metal is a pretty geeky – yet still relatively awesome – genre of music. Mastodon fully embrace this idea with their new music video to “High Road,” which comes off of their upcoming album Once More ‘Round The Sun, slated for release on June 24. Featuring the age-old tale of geeks versus bullies, with the themes of LARPing and family values set in the background (along with a kick ass new song from Mastodon, mind you), this video demands your attention this Wednesday afternoon. Besides, do you really think you’ll find anything …

Adult Swim’s Summer Singles Series To Return With Deafheaven, Tim Hecker, Future, More

Adult Swim’s Single Series has delivered a number of intriguing tracks over the past few summers, with whoever curates the series having a deft hand for picking artists currently rising or resurfacing into the spotlight. Wye Oak, The Field, Miguel, Run the Jewels, Dan Deacon, an annual appearance by Captain Murphy – it always promises to at least be interesting throughout the year.

Granted, they are “rising” in a very specific, not even slightly mainstream community. VP of  Adult Swim On-Air Jason Demarco is very aware of this. As quoted in Billboard:

“Adult Swim has become a success by

LISTEN: Mastodon Debut “Chimes At Midnight”

Mastodon have premiered their new track “Chimes At Midnight,” the second single from their upcoming album Once More ‘Round The Sun. The album hits stores on June 24 and is currently available for pre-order through the band’s official site.

The track finds a balance between some ferocious Leviathan-esque riffing and those psychedelic space-rock passages so prevalent on The Hunter, which bodes well for the album after the solid, yet radio-ready first single “High Road.” Click through for the stream.

Welcome to this week’s edition of Weekly Wax!

If you’re still playing catch-up on the great pop punk and emo releases of past few years, then you’re in luck. This week saw a number of repressings from No Sleep Records and Run For Cover Records, as well as a number of classic punk reissues like Shop Radio Cast‘s pressing of Sum 41‘s Chuck.

In terms of new releases, the big story this week was the launch of pre-orders for the new Tigers Jaw LP, Charmer. The album received a massive first pressing, but copies are …

Mastodon Reveal Artwork and Track Listing For ‘Once More ‘Round The Sun’

Mastodon are preparing to conquer the rock arena again in 2014 with the release of their new album, Once More ‘Round The Sun. Today, the group revealed the album’s official cover art, as well as the official track listing, as part of a promotional push that included a lyric video for the lead single (“High Road“).

Featuring eleven tracks and only one guest appearance, Once More ‘Round The Sun will be the sixth full length studio album from Mastodon. Very little is known about the release beyond the straightforward hard rock feel of “High Road,” but a …

Mastodon Vocalist: “I Think Us Screaming And Yelling Is Kind Of A Thing Of The Past”

Mastodon are one of the few remaining juggernauts of the hard rock world, but they are also one of the most progressive bands in music. I’m not sure whether or not they ever swore to never do the same thing twice, but with each release they have forged ahead with cunning a willingness to try new things that fans have welcomed with open arms.

While speaking about the group’s latest material with Loudwire, Mastodon guitarist/vocalist Bill Kelliher was asked about the chorus of the group’s newest single (“High Road“) and whether or not it’s representative of the …
