Lil Wayne Facing Lawsuit Over Skateboard Beat Down

LA Weekly is reporting that Lil Wayne is back in the tabloids and facing charges for his alleged assault of Los Angeles promoter Alfred Marino. Marino explains that he was just trying to get a picture of the rapper in May (2012) when one of his crew became irate and struck him in the head with a skateboard.

True Grit Records Sign The Motel Life

True Grit Records announced today that they have brought on Ontario, California natives The Motel Life to the roster. Congratulations on this move for the band and label. Read the official statement from The Motel Life below and leave your well wishes in the comments section.

Strife bring hardcore back to the strip with their first show in six years to remind the Roxy crowd what it's all about.

STREAM: Strife – “Witness a Rebirth”

California hardcore punk band Strife hasn’t had an album since 2001′s Angermeans. Their next album, Witness a Rebirth, will be out November 6 from 6131 Records, and based on this stream, it shouldn’t disappoint fans of heavy hitting punk.

The band is also going to tour the eastern US soon, but only has two dates announced:

Benjamin Gibbard Posts Album Artwork, Announces Tour

Death Cab for Cutie frontman, Benjamin Gibbard, announced a couple weeks ago that he would be releasing his debut solo album, Former Lives, on October 16 via Barsuk Records. Today, Gibbard posted Former Lives‘ album artwork and has announced new tour dates for this Fall. Check out the artwork for Former Lives after the jump.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe Died 50 Years Ago Today

On this day in 1962, actress, model and cultural icon, Marilyn Monroe, committed suicide at the age of 36. Police were called to Monroe’s home in Los Angeles at 4:25am and found the actress face-down and nude on her bed with a telephone to her ear. There were also empty pill bottles strewn around her bedroom.

Monroe was taking several anti-depressants to treat her depression at the time. A later autopsy found chloral hydrate and Nembutal in her system at the time of her death.

LIVE: Kevin Devine – “Brother’s Blood”

Indie folk artist, Kevin Devine, recently performed his 2009 title track, “Brother’s Blood” acoustically at his recent set at the Troubador in Los Angeles. You can check out the live video of his performance after the jump.

Devine is currently on tour opening for mewithoutYou. Devine did not bring The Goddamn Band out for this tour, electing to go the familiar acoustic route. The tour is at its half-way point, with fourteen shows to go culminating in a date in Philadelphia on August 18.

Devine released his sixth album, Between the Concrete and Clouds, last year.
