Pup interview 2014

Watch PUP Cover the Buzzcocks

Punk manages to revitalize itself every few years just enough for bands to claim it isn’t dead but for modern dads to say it’s not the same. Today we find ourselves right in the meat of that argument as Side One Dummy punk group PUP head over to the AV Club to cover one of the 1970s’ most important punk bands, the Buzzcocks.

Watch as the Canadian quartet do a solid job of channeling that punk spirit as their guitars snarl during the cover. They don’t get too fancy, which ultimately is the right move. Instead, they cover the …

Atreyu Confirm Return, Reveal First Show Back

The wait is over, ladies and gentlemen. After months of teasers and rumors with absolutely no interviews or public appearances, the members of Atreyu have announced that they are officially returning to the world of music.

Today, a press release was distributed confirming the news we all believed to be true for the better part of 2014 so far: Atreyu are back. The band has been planning this announcement for several months and could not be more thrilled to finally reveal their plans to fans. “The time has come,” says drummer Brandon Saller. “We have been spending the last few …

Jack White Covers Kanye West In Dublin [Video]

Jack White is never one to play things safe. Every single project he has been attached to in the world of music, from The White Stripes to Third Man Records, has been built upon a foundation of innovation that seems to never cease. There is no sound too odd or story too long, just music.

Recently, Jack White traveled to Ireland to play a large scale music festival. The show opened with White and his band performing the Yeezus cut “Black Skinhead” in full, then transitioned into material from White’s critically acclaimed career. You can view the first fifteen minutes …

Dustin Kensrue 2012

Watch Live Footage of Dustin Kensrue (Thrice) Covering Lorde’s “Buzzcut Season”

Thrice may be slowly but surely transitioning out of their hiatus, but frontman Dustin Kensrue has been steadily keeping up his solo efforts to back his second full-length album, The Water And The Blood. Recently at Dallas, TX’s Pegasus Music Festival, Kensrue whooped out a cover of “Buzzcut Season,” which comes off of Lorde’s debut album, Pure Heroine.

We don’t know why he had chosen to cover one of 2013′s breakout artists at this festival, but we do know that we absolutely loved the performance. Follow the jump to watch a fan-made recording, and be sure to …

UTG PHOTOS: Goo Goo Dolls & Daughtry (6/14/14)

Under The Gun sent guest photographer, Audrey Lew, to the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY to photograph Goo Goo Dolls & Daughty on June 14, 2014.

Last week, the Goo Goo Dolls kicked off their summer tour with the support of Daughtry and the Plain White T’s.

The weather at Jones Beach was nice, but as expected got a bit nippy from the ocean breeze. Overall, I’d expected it to be a good show when it came to sound and performance, seeing as every band on the ballot has been around the block a few times. I …

Angel Olsen

Watch Angel Olsen’s TV Debut on ‘Letterman’

It’s been four months since Angel Olsen‘s fantastic record Burn Your Fire For No Witness came out and not a week goes by that I don’t find myself listening to it in full. The only thing better than giving it a spin is hearing that material live. Thankfully the whole TV-watching world got a chance to experience that sound this week when Olsen stopped by the Late Show with David Letterman to perform “Hi-Five.”

The video is a good opportunity to see her singing style. It never ceases to amaze me how little she opens her mouth for some …

Real Estate

Watch Real Estate Debut New Song “White Light” and Cover Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So”

It’s been quite a year for New Jersey indie rockers Real Estate. Not only did they put out an excellent new album, Atlas, but they announced a new live EP, shared US tour dates, and taught us how to play “Crime” on guitar. Naturally the next step was to stop by La Blogothèque for a dependably breathtaking live session. The 30-minute video has frontman Martin Courtney, guitarist Matt Modanile, and bassist Alex Bleeker playing in a cozy indoor setting to a small group of onlookers.

The video catches Real Estate playing music off of Atlas, including …

Pinback Announce ‘Summer In Abaddon’ 10th Anniversary Tour Dates With Tera Melos

Indie rock got a prog update when Pinback first hit the scene in 1998. Fast forward to today and the San Diego dudes are still running fast, most recently having dropped the bright, upbeat Information Retrieved in 2012. Arguably their best album, however, is 2004′s Summer In Abaddon, an excellent showcase of Rob Crow’s distinct vocals and Armistead Burwell Smith IV’s status as one of the best modern bass players. To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Pinback are touring North America this fall with math rockers Tera Melos in tow.

To honor the record’s anniversary, Touch & Go is reissuing the …

UTG INTERVIEW: Devo’s Gerald Casale Discusses Upcoming Tour, The Internet And EDM

“The prize to look for is originality and I don’t think that’s really a value that’s part of our culture now. I don’t think people want originality. They want exactly what they know. They’ve already heard it, and they want more of it.”

According to Devo‘s founding member, Jerry Casale, the band was hardcore art way before any inkling of commercialization. The band’s debut album, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, was released in 1978 via Warner Bros. Records, yet their upcoming ‘HARDCORE DEVO’ Tour focuses on the band’s music from 1974-1977. The idea, which …
