Katy Perry Launches New Label, Signs First Artist

Katy Perry is no doubt a busy body, but then again, if your latest record sold 286,000 copies in its opening week, you’d probably be pretty swamped too.

Still, in spite of this fact, it seems that the “Birthday” songstress has no intention of slowing her roll anytime soon. Yesterday, Perry took to Twitter to announce the launch of her new record label, Metamorphosis Music, an offshoot of Capitol Records.

As her first order of business, the 29-year-old pop superstar signed the Los Angeles-based singer Ferras, who is currently opening for Perry on The Prismatic World

Ross Shotland - Enjoy The Ride Records

UTG INTERVIEW: Enjoy The Ride Records’ Founder Ross Shotland

As we tend to remind you on almost a daily basis, we here at Under The Gun have a serious weakness for wax. The simple aesthetics of collecting vinyl is a primary connection for many with the hobby. Some of us on staff may love the pretty colors, the collectivity, or swear by the sound quality of a needle touching down on a classic style LP.

I find myself going through an uphill battle as more and more albums are released on vinyl in quality limited variants, because they’re simply being released at a quicker rate than I can …

Childish Gambino Hates His Record Label

Things have been weird with Childish Gambino since he started promoting his Sophomore album near the end of summer 2013. Between videos that play like movies, random singles, and late night tweet-sprees on everything from the assumption Dan Harmon hates him, to his label’s belief that his latest album was not meant for a winter release, the evolution of Childish Gambino in the public eye over the last year has been unlike any other.

Today, Childish – aka Donald Glover – took to Twitter to vent about his frustrations with his label’s recent rollout of a new video and tour …

Asking Alexandria Guitarist Ben Bruce Starts New Record Label

Asking Alexandria guitarist Ben Bruce has joined forces with the UK outfit’s co-manager, Kyle Borman, to create KBB Records. To celebrate this newest undertaking, earlier this week the duo signed their first band, Scare Don’t Fear.

As expected, Bruce was optimistic of the future:

“After years of planning, touring, writing and learning, and after ups and downs, arguments and agreements, I have grown to not only love the music industry, but understand it and respect it. KBB Records is a label run by artists, for artists. With my love and passion for music along with my knowledge and

TRAILER: A Fat Wreck (Fat Wreck Chords Documentary)

Here at the UTG offices we love a good music documentary (as we expressed in our article on the new Green Day documentary this morning), and today we’re also excited to share with you a doc on one of the most important labels in punk, Fat Wreck Chords. The documentary, A Fat Wreck, aims to tell the story of the legendary record label from its origins in 1990 to 1999, through interviews with band members who have been on the label, as well as other music industry members.

The film is still in production and is calling …

Death Grips Launch Their Own Label Thirdworlds

Death Grips have not had the best luck with finding a stable label home and today they create their own sanctuary, called Thirdworlds. The label’s official logo can be seen to your left in the feature image box.

Thirdworlds isn’t exactly all that independent though. A quote from the press states that the home to Death Grips was “created via a very unique relationship with Harvest/Capitol, to be distributed by Caroline.” We can all expect a new album from the group in 2014.

Yo Gotti States He Did Not Sign To T.I.’s Label

In an interview at the BET Awards, Yo Gotti clears up the misunderstanding that he was signed to T.I.’s label, Hustle Gang. Gotti states he is currently signed to himself with CMG (L.A. Reid / Epic Records). Read the short quote below and check out the interview segment on the red carpet through the jump!

“No, no. T.I. the big homie. Salute to T.I. and Hustle Gang,” he said. “But, I am signed to myself with CMG. We got a partnership with L.A. Reid and Epic. That whole thing, the blogs just went crazy. They put their own words in

topshelf records

Topshelf Records Puts Entire Catalog Up For Free Download Via Bandcamp

Topshelf Records, in a move equal parts crazy, generous, and crazy generous, has arranged to have their entire catalog available for free download via Bandcamp.

Everything. New stuff like the Pianos Become The Teeth/Touché Amoré Split and the You Blew It!/Fake Problems Split. The tops of the twinkle daddy heap like Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate), and My Heart To Joy. There’s even this band in there named Toe that I’m not familiar with. But I’m sure Toe is awesome because Topshelf is a rad, rad label. And you can check them out for free, …

Capture The Crown Sign With Sumerian Records; Release Music Video

For a handful of moments I considered titling this piece something along the lines of, “Obvious Signing Is Obvious,” but felt the irony may be lost on some.

Sumerian Records essentially announced their plan to head straight for the bank in 2013 earlier today by signing the insanely popular metalcore act Capture The Crown. The band, who are probably most well known for their viral music video “You Call This A Knife? This Is A Knife!,” will release their debut album Til Death on December 18.

To mark the occasion, not to mention introduce the band to those …
