It’s just about impossible to listen to one of The Front Bottoms‘ albums without cracking a smile. Luckily, their signature brand of quirky humor makes an appearance in their new music video for “Backflip.” The group jumps on a trampoline, sprays silly string, and eats pizza, accidentally murdering their famous friends along the way. Look out for cameos from Kevin Devine (Kevin Devine and The Goddamn Band, Bad Books) and comedians Sal Vulcano and Chris Gethard.

Fadeaway Records Releasing Massive LP Compilation ft. Brand New, Manchester Orchestra, Straylight Run; Hear Kevin Devine Cover “King’s Crossing”

Kevin Devine‘s got a big heart, and that heart is quite fond of Elliott Smith. The Brooklyn singer-songwriter throws out covers like candy, and about half of those are Elliott Smith songs, from “Between the Bars” to “Say Yes” to “The Biggest Lie.” He’s gone and added another one to the list, this time covering Smith’s depressing “King’s Crossing” off From a Basement on a Hill. Give it a listen below.

The cover is a part of Fadeaway Records’ triumphant return after a 10+ hiatus by means of a sweet triple LP compilation with all profits going to cancer …

Manchester Orchestra Members Release Solo Tracks

As a part of the Fadeaway Records compilation, Fadeaway Records 10: Friends, members of the Atlanta-based band have released three solo tracks.

The three songs are performed by frontman Andy Hull, Robert McDowell and Chris Freeman. Hull’s “Back of Your Old Church” offers up a great representation of his comforting, breathy vocals reminiscent of his Right Away, Great Captain! days. McDowell, performing under the pseudonym “Gobotron,” brings the careful, edging “Walk Like A Dog,” beckoning thoughts of Simon and Garfunkel. Freeman, calling himself “Alaska” took the concept route with “A Teacher In The Sun,” taking the voice of a …

Rebecca Docter’s ‘Best of 2013′ In Music

2013 delivered a sea of great albums, but five stood out above the rest. Check out what albums made my cut!

5. Moving Mountains – Moving Mountains

Very seldom do I find an album that I can listen to all the way through without skipping or shuffling tracks, so when I listed to Moving Mountains’ self-titled, I was surprised to find that this was one such album. I came into the Moving Mountains game blind after seeing recommendation after recommendation on many of my usual news outlets, so I gave the band a try with the new release. The album …

Kevin Devine recorded a cover of Vampire Weekend’s hit, “Hannah Hunt,” and uploaded it to his Facebook page. Featuring just Devine and an acoustic guitar, the Brooklyn boy’s vocals juxtapose Ezra Koenig’s in the best way. The cover offers up a very different version from the one recorded by the New York-based Vampire Weekend.

In the past, Devine has recorded covers of hits such as The Strokes’ “Someday” and numerous Elliott Smith songs.

You can watch Kevin Devine’s cover of Vampire Weekend’s “Hannah Hunt” here.…
