UTG Exclusive: Producer Joey Sturgis Picks His 10 Favorite Projects

I am almost certain there has not been a single day in the last few years of this website where we have not discussed at least one artist who has producer Joey Sturgis to thank (at least in part) for their success. His work on The Devil Wears Prada’s first releases ushered in a new era for hard rock production, and to this day he continues to push the limits of music production whenever possible. He’s also expanded his horizons, including the launch of a plugin series based on his own work, but at the end of the day it …

Kriston McConnell’s ‘Best Of 2013’ In Music

When you’re listening to an album in February you may say to yourself, “THIS is my favorite album this year, definitely.” After that June comes around and you say, “No, THIS is my favorite album, hands down.” November rolls on by and you say, “Fuck all of those other albums, this is THE album of the year!” You think you have it all sorted out, then your editor asks you to put together a list of your favorite albums for the year. Under The Gun sent photographer, Corbin Alvae, to the Started From The Bottom Tour at The Crofoot in Pontiac, MI.

Well, hey! I’m back again and ready to chit chat about what was called the ‘Started From The Bottom Tour.’ One thing I can say about this tour is that it was super stacked with tons of talent that I personally have listened to for awhile now. The location couldn’t have been any better, as it was at one of my favorite hometown venues, The Crofoot.

REVIEW: I See Stars – New Demons

Artist: I See Stars
Album: New Demons
Genre: Electronic Hardcore
Label: Sumerian

I See Stars arrived on the national scene at a time when the turnover rate for heavy bands in the alternative scene was at an all time high. Their debut, 3D3D and did not return until the group’s second album, The End of The World Party was nearly complete. Cleans vocalist Devin Oliver had lost his creative counter-balance, and the results were a mixed bag of songs skewing more pop than anything else. Fans stayed true, however, and the band returned stronger than ever with 2012’s Digital
