The band will soon be hitting the road to open for Green Day for the better part of April. After that and a couple of festival dates the pair will be heading out again, making stops in the Southern and Mid-Atlantic regions in the US through early June.

Billie Joe Armstrong Talks Substance Abuse, Recovery In Rolling Stone Interview

Green Day front man and songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong recently sat down with David Fricke of Rolling Stone Magazine to dish about his substance abuse and subsequent recovery.

It’s a fairly incredible story, if only for the fact that there really wasn’t any public indications of Armstrong’s issues prior to his outburst at back in September at the iheartradio Festival in Las Vegas. But Armstrong delves pretty deep into some of the more harrowing behind the scenes moments.

WATCH: Billie Joe Armstrong Play “Himself” In Deleted ‘This Is 40′ Scene

Billie Joe Armstrong: singer, songwriter, thespian?

While the Green Day frontman has had a rough couple of months – kicked off with that meltdown at the iheartradio Festival back in September, the seeming awesomeness of which was quickly soured by news of rehab check-ins (context, it’s a bitch) – it looks like he’s having fun in this clip! Lindsey Lohan this isn’t!

In this portion of This Is 40 that was left on the cutting room floor, Armstrong plays a more pretentious, oblique version of himself. There’s talk of Belle & Sebastian, Norwegian death metal music projects, and …

UTG PLAYLIST: ¡Cinco! (Best of the Green Day Album Trilogy)

Green Day had a huge undertaking with their recently released trilogy of albums, ¡UNO!¡DOS!, and ¡TRE! (click on each album for our individual review). Not only did they have to produce a quality record at their age (because let’s be honest, bands like this do generally get worse with age), they had to produce three of them. Green Day wanted to take a more relaxed approach to writing this record, and didn’t want to create huge concepts like their last two albums, but instead they just increased the scope by giving themselves the task of keeping the …

ALBUM REVIEW: Green Day – ¡Tré!

Artist: Green Day
Album: ¡Tre!
Genre: Punk(ish)

Realistically speaking, following my first listen to ¡Tré!, the third installment of the latest Green Day trilogy, I should have rejoiced with a sizable party of family and friends. Having embraced and approved of all 12 of the tracks on the album, I honestly should be god damned overjoyed. I probably should have celebrated the return of the Green Day of old with a Macy’s Day Parade (see what I did there?). Yet, in the long run, I have stumbled away from this album with more questions for Green Day than answers …

WATCH: Green Day Release ‘¡Quatro!’ Clip

Green Day recently announced that they would be releasing a documentary entitled ¡Quatro! about the making of their most recent trilogy, ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tre!.

A clip of the documentary has surfaced showing Billy Jo Armstrong surfing as well as the band playing live.

“I think sometimes taking time off feels dangerous to me because I just like playing music, it’s just what I like to do. I’m addicted to it. And what I’ve noticed what happens to bands that ‘take time off’ — they’re not as good when they come back,”  Armstrong mentions in the clip below. …

REVIEW: Green Day – Dos!

Artist: Green Day
Album: Dos!
Genre: Punk(?)

In a perfect world there would be no pillars to fall from. Expectations would be modest and reasonable, directed to the task at hand. Take for example Green Day, who has spent the last 18 years living in the shadow of their best-selling album Dookie. The trio honestly shouldn’t be held to unrealistic expectations of recreating this iconic album. I mean, life happens right? Over the course of two decades people undoubtedly grow up, and their influences and inspirations shift. So logically, Billie Joe and company should in no way be …
