Fireworks Stream B-Side From ‘Oh, Common Life’

Michigan’s resident pop punk heroes Fireworks released their third album, Oh, Common Life last week, and it has been a big hit here at UTG and elsewhere. For fans who followed the album’s marketing campaign, however, something seemed to be missing from the album. The haunting song that appeared in an early teaser video did not make the final tracklist, but it did surface on a bonus EP sold along with Oh, Common Life at select independent record stores. Today, the band made the song, titled “Oh, Common Life,” available online, and you can stream it after the break.

REVIEW: Fireworks – ‘Oh, Common Life’

Artist: Fireworks
Album: Oh, Common Life
Label: Triple Crown

There have been few musical evolutions more exciting to witness in recent years than that of Michigan pop rock outfit Fireworks. Over the course of two radically different full length albums and numerous EPs the band, which originally began as a pop punk project, has transformed from boys to men, and in doing so grew to have new outlooks on existence. The angst that drove their early material slowly began to take a backseat to a mix of hindsight and personal reflection on their Sophomore album that carved a niche all …

STREAM: Fireworks – ‘Oh, Common Life’

With their 2011 full-length, Gospel, Fireworks cemented themselves as one of the most exciting bands in pop punk, and anticipation for the follow-up has been building steadily ever since. The Michigan group’s third album, Oh, Common Life, was UTG’s most anticipated release of the year, and the wait is finally over. You can stream the record right now over at Red Bull Music.

Fireworks are currently out on the road with The Wonder Years, Real Friends, Citizen, and Modern Baseball. I caught two of the shows last week, so I can say firsthand that this isn’t a …

Fireworks Stream New Song, “Flies On Tape”

Three long weeks still stand between today and the release of Fireworks‘ third album, Oh, Common Life, but hopefully a new song from the Michigan band will make that wait a little easier. “Flies On Tape,” the second song released from the album, is streaming now over at Stereogum. Like the previously released “Glowing Crosses,” this track is a natural extension of the sound Fireworks carved out on their previous two albums, with catchy guitar leads and a subtle keyboard part intertwining with frontman Dave Mackinder’s distinct voice.

Starting tomorrow, Fireworks will be hitting the road with …

WEEKLY WAX: Vinyl Releases For The Week Of 2/16-2/22

I don’t know what you’ve been listening to this week, but on the rare occasions when I wasn’t playing The Hotelier‘s excellent new album, I was alternating between the new Menzingers single and “I Wanna Get Better,” the first song from Fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff’s new project, Bleachers. Conveniently (or not, if you ask my wallet), all three of those artists launched pre-orders for new material this week, and they weren’t alone. The last seven days also saw pre-orders for Oh, Common Life, the third album from Michigan pop punk band Fireworks and probably the most …

STREAM: Fireworks – “Glowing Crosses”

Oh, how sweet the sound of Fireworks playing on my laptop speakers.

Today we hear the first song from the pop-punk princes’ upcoming record Oh, Common Life, which is out on March 25, 2014 via Triple Crown Records.

To me, it sounds like the band is experimenting with more straightforward pop songwriting. Still, the nostalgic Fireworks charm is there. “Glowing Crosses” provides a nice introduction to one of my most anticipated records this year.

Listen to “Glowing Crosses” below.…

After a fairly quiet year, fans will certainly be happy to see even a little concrete information coming from the band’s camp.

In addition to the latest teaser photo, it was revealed that Fireworks will be appearing …

Fireworks Post “Oh, Common Life” Teaser Video

Fireworks have had a quiet year since their spring tour with The Wonder Years, so fans were understandably excited when the Michigan band’s website was updated last month with a cryptic image of a boy transforming into a wolf. Today, the band moved one step closer to what is shaping up to be the announcement of a new album with a teaser video titled “Oh, Common Life,” which you can watch after the break.

The video, posted under the username Michigan Department of Tourism, consists of archival-style footage of scenic lake views interspersed with some weird, horror movie-esque imagery. Most …

Fireworks Teasing News, Release Cryptic Image

Michigan pop rock favorites Fireworks have been more or less quiet since wrapping up their stint on the 2012 installment of the Vans Warped Tour. There has been no new music since that time, and only a handful of rumors as far as recording is concerned, but this afternoon an update to the band’s official website has us believing something big is on the horizon.

The artwork for Fireworks’ last album, Gospel, featured an image of a young boy with what appeared to be a demon standing ominously behind him. This afternoon, Fireworks appear to be continuing that boy’s …
