The man who made his name in raunchy comedy is once again laughing his way to the bank. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s first motion picture, the R-rated Ted, opened to a stellar $54.1 million this weekend, exceeding studio expectations by $10-15 million. We knew it was a possibility, but now UTG can confirm pop star Katy Perry will release her first film this Summer.
Confirmed tonight via her twitter, Katy Perry: Part Of Me is the 3D concert event movie no one said they wanted, or knew they hated, until now. Few details are available, but Paramount is releasing and an article from THR rumors Project Runway and Top Chef creators Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz may be producing.

“X-Men: First Class” opens at #1
The weekend box office figures are in and, to almost no surprise, X-Men: First Class has come out victorious. Opening slightly weaker than hoped at $54 million, the film still did better than the original film incarnation in 2000 (which opened at $50 million).
Last week’s number one film, The Hangover 2, dropped a staggering 62% in its second week, ending up with $32.4 million ($186 million to date). Analysts are blaming poor word-of-mouth for the film’s drop in attendance, but we think it isn’t our fault the movie is terrible.
