REVIEW: Slaughter Beach (Jake Ewald of Modern Baseball) – ‘Dawg’ EP

Artist: Slaughter Beach
Title: Dawg EP
Genre: Emo, Alt-Punk

The question of why artists don’t just put out their far from flawless mini collection of songs they hastily write while on the subway or at a McDonalds always crossed my mind. Why do we always have to expect these things to come in shiny packages and red bows? Why can’t we receive the same presents in a barely-96kbps-“is-this-the-demo?” format? Luckily for us curious folks, Jake Ewald of Modern Baseball appears to share similar sentiments. He recently, under the name of Slaughter Beach, unexpectedly put out a three-track EP, entitled Dawg,

Our Last Night

MUSIC VIDEO: Our Last Night – “Falling Away”

Our Last Night have released a music video for their single “Falling Away.” The band made the video very personal, and showed a side of one of their members you don’t get to see very often. The video features frontman brothers Matt and Trevor Wentworth singing the lyrics back and forth, but it focuses mostly on Trevor. He’s either sitting, longingly staring out a window or playing on the beach with his son. The song talks about having to be away from friends and family all the time, so it makes sense the video embodies that feeling. You can watch …

REVIEW: HELENA – ‘Levity Remixes’ EP (feat. Shawnee Taylor)

Artist: HELENA (feat. Shawnee Taylor)
Album: Levity Remixes EP
Genre: Electro house
Label: Ultra Music

After having the chance to speak with HELENA at the time of the release of her collaboration with vocalist Shawnee Taylor, “Levity,” there was little doubt the Australian electro house producer would make her presence felt throughout the music scene, whether it be through her nonstop international touring or festival-ready anthems. With the release of the Levity Remixes EP, she has taken yet another step in the right direction by teaming up with a collection of fellow rising musicians and allowing them to put their …

Amber Pacific Push Back EP Release Date A Month

Though the announcement of an album being pushed back isn’t usually good news, it might just be in Amber Pacific‘s case. Their crowdfunded EP, The Turn, was originally scheduled to be released tomorrow, July 29, but the band made an exciting announcement over the weekend that has pushed back the date. On their official Facebook page they confirmed that they will be teaming up with Digitally Sound Records and Straight 8 Entertainment, who will help them distribute the album globally. In order to accomplish this though, they had to bump the release date to September 2. You can …

Bonfire

UTG VIDEO PREMIERE: Bonfire – “Before You Left”

Bonfire are a four piece post hardcore outfit based out of Saskatoon, Canada. They just released a short split with fellow Canadian singer/songwriter New Born. Bonfire’s contribution is the emotion-inducing single “Before You Left.” We are happy to have teamed up with the band to premiere the music video for this song. You can check it out below the jump.

“Before You Left” isn’t your typical music video, as it’s a conglomerate of year’s worth of home videos stitched together. It provides a hint of nostalgia for anyone who is familiar with the shaky, often pixelated, home videos from …

Allison Weiss Streams New EP, ‘Remember When’

After weeks of teasing from Allison Weiss (a single here, a stream there), today her five-song EP, Remember When, was made available for purchase, digitally and otherwise. Furthermore, the entire thing is now available to stream as well.

The title track and “Giving Up” are great examples of what Weiss does best: indie pop with heart and a driving beat. Robyn cover “Call Your Girlfriend” showcases the raw emotion in the cracking of her voice. The cover to the EP is grabbing–bubblegum pink with a black crayon sketch of a campfire–and gets you ready to reminisce with Weiss …

Every Weezer Fan Needs To Spend Time With ‘You Blue It!’ This Week

It’s truly rare that a covers album rises above the level of novelty to become something worth longtime admiration. Of the dozens, if not hundreds of covers releases and compilations created every year, only a handful are ever deemed worthy of coverage by the vast majority of press, and of those few even less are ever spoken of in a positive light. It would certainly appear that people enjoy a good cover, but only to a certain degree, and I’ll be the first to admit that that certainly applies to me. To be completely honest, I have only found one …
