Chicago rappers are clogging our news feed today, but we are by no means complaining about it.

With the release of his forthcoming album Tetsuo & Youth inching closer by the week, Lupe Fiasco took to the internet late last night, May 20, to release a new (free) single entitled “Animal Pharm.” As you may expect, the song offers a modern reinterpretation of George Orwell’s allegorical novel Animal Farm, which reflected on events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalin era in the Soviet Union. Just a bit ahead of their plans to tour the country together throughout the Summer, T.I. and Lil Wayne have released a new collaborative effort titled “Wit Me.”

Backed by one of the most exciting beats so far this year, “Wit Me” plays like a lyrical contest between T.I. and Lil Wayne. Say what you will about either rapper and their most recent full length, but both emcees go in full force on this track, and I’m not sure which comes out on top. Brooklyn artist Reed Kackley (Silent Rider) has recently released an impressive (and bold) cover of Bon Iver’s single that started it all, “Skinny Love.”

Kackley gives Justin Vernon a run for his money with an equally impressive and hypnotizing falsetto, this time backed by an ambient groove that gives the track a mesmerizing quality. This has been on repeat for me all morning and will continue to be throughout the day in between catch-up episodes of It’s Always Sunny.
